Article Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 7Thin Film Like Terahertz Bolometric Detector on Bi2212 Single Crystal(Springer Verlag, 2016) Semerci, Tuğçe; Demirhan, Yasemin; Miyakawa, Nobuaki; Wang, Huabing; Özyüzer, LütfiIn this study, we developed a microbolometer chip fabricated from high temperature superconducting Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ (Bi2212) single crystals for the terahertz (THz) detection. For the manufacturing of the microbolometer chips, Bi2212 single crystals were transferred on substrate in the thin film like form and electron beam lithography, ion beam etching techniques were used. Resistance versus temperature behavior of the bolometer chips were performed by four probe technique in liquid nitrogen cryostat. Bi2212 microchips were integrated and characterized using in our custom-designed cryogenic bolometer system instead of expensive and massive cooling systems. The fabricated microchips significantly detected signals from the Stefan-Boltzmann lamp which includes a portion of THz radiation. The detected power and response time were studied for Bi2212 thin film like microbolometer chips. Our results demonstrated the feasibility of improved Bi2212 microchips could be used for bolometric detection for THz applications.Article Citation - WoS: 28Citation - Scopus: 29Eliashberg Analysis of Tunneling Experiments: Support for the Pairing Glue Hypothesis in Cuprate Superconductors(American Physical Society, 2011) Ahmadi, O.; Coffey, L.; Zasadzinski, John F.; Miyakawa, Nobuaki; Özyüzer, LütfiEvidence for the validity of the pairing glue interpretation of high temperature superconductivity is presented using a modified Eliashberg analysis of experimental superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) tunneling data in B2Sr2CaCu2O8 (Bi2212) over a wide range of doping. This is accomplished by extracting detailed information on the diagonal and anomalous contributions to the quasiparticle self-energy. In particular, a comparison of the imaginary part of the anomalous self-energy ImΦ(ω) and the pairing glue spectral function α2F(ω) used in the model is consistent with Hubbard model simulations in the literature. In addition, the real part of the diagonal self-energy for optimal doped Bi2212 bears a strong resemblance to that obtained from photoemission experiments.Article Investigation of the Tunneling Spectra in Hgbr2-Intercalated Bi-2212 Single Crystals Below and Above Tc(Elsevier Ltd., 2007) Kurter, Cihan; Mazur, Daniel; Özyüzer, Lütfi; Hinks, David G.; Gray, Kenneth E.Interlayer tunneling spectroscopy measurements were performed on mesa arrays of Bi-2212 single crystals, intercalated with HgBr2. Tunneling conductances were obtained over a wide temperature range to examine the spectral features, especially the behavior of the quasiparticle peaks corresponding to superconducting energy gaps (SGs). Experimental spectra showed that gap-like features are still present even for the temperatures far above the transition temperature, Tc. This evidence is consistent with the idea that the SG evolves into a pseudogap above Tc for HgBr2-intercalated Bi-2212 single crystals.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 6Fabrication of Array of Mesas on Superconducting Bi2sr 2cacu2o8+? Single Crystals(National Institute of Optoelectronics, 2005) Kurter, Cihan; Özyüzer, LütfiThe superconducting properties of multi-layered high temperature superconductors (HTS) result mainly from the CuO2 planes, while the other structural components behave simply as charge reservoirs. Using these perfect-layered structures of HTS, arrays of mesas have been fabricated on the surfaces of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ (Bi2212) single crystals using hotolithography and argon ion beam etching techniques. These arrays have current-voltage (I-V) characteristics that consist of some branches corresponding to different intrinsic Josephson junctions in the mesas, The surface topography and heights of the mesas were examined with atomic force microscopy. Due to the small mesa area, conventional wire bonding techniques are not applicable. A novel method, point contact tunneling apparatus with a sharp Au tip, was used to obtain the I-V characteristics of the fabricated intrinsic Josephson junctions, below the critical temperature of Bi2212. Since the ultimate goal was to obtain an ordered group of mesas with small lateral dimensions, to eliminate heating effects during I-V measurements, we showed that submicron-sized mesas could be characterized by the new technique.Article Citation - WoS: 39Citation - Scopus: 40Investigation of the Variation in Weak-Link Profile of Yba 2cu3-Xagxo7 Superconductors by Ag Doping Concentration(Elsevier Ltd., 2004) Tepe, Mustafa; Avcı, İlbeyi; Koçoğlu, H.; Abukay, DoğanThe effect of Ag doping concentration on the microstructure, transport properties and weak-link profile of YBa2Cu3-xAg xO7-δ bulk superconducting compound was investigated through resistance-temperature (R-T), ac magnetic susceptibility (χ-T), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the critical current density (Jc) versus applied magnetic field (Jc-B) measurements. We used the additive method with cationic ratio of x=0.1-0.4 for the YBCO-Ag system. The change in the silver doping concentration slightly affected the transition temperatures (Tc,zero), whereas, the critical current densities (Jc) of the samples and their magnetic field (B) dependencies were noticeably affected. The improvement on the microstructural properties of YBCO bulk superconductors was observed in SEM analysis, the J c values increased and their magnetic field dependencies decreased with the increasing of Ag concentration up to x=0.2. As well as the current transport properties. Ag doping up to a certain amount produces texturing that gives rise to a modification in the weak-link profile resulting in an enhanced strength of flux pinning which causes an increase in the current carrying capacity.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 4Probing the Phase Diagram of Bi2sr2cacu 2o8+? With Tunneling Spectroscopy(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2003) Özyüzer, Lütfi; Zasadzinski, John F.; Gray, Kenneth E.; Hinks, David G.; Miyakawa, NobuakiTunneling measurements are performed on Ca-rich single crystals of Bi 2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ (Bi2212), with various oxygen doping levels, using a novel point contact method. At 4.2 K, SIN and SIS tunnel junctions are obtained with well-defined quasiparticle peaks, robust dip and hump features and in some cases Josephson currents. The doping dependence of tunneling conductances of Ca-rich Bi2212 are analyzed and compared to stoichiometric Bi2212. A similar profile of energy gap vs. doping concentration is found although the Ca-rich samples have a slighly smaller optimum Tc and therefore smaller gap values for any doping level. The evolution of tunneling conductance peak height to background ratios with hole concentration are compared. For a given doping level, the Ca-rich spectra showed more broadened features compared to the stoichiometric counterparts, most likely due to increased disorder from the excess Ca. Comparison of the dip and hump features has provided some potential insights into their origins.
