Effect of Cnt Incorporation on Pan/Ppy Nanofibers Synthesized by Electrospinning Method
(TÜBİTAK, 2020) İnce Yardımcı, Atike; Tanoğlu, Metin; Yılmaz, Selahattin; Selamet, Yusuf
In this study, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) added polyacrylonitrile/polypyrrole (PAN/PPy) electrospun nanofibers were produced. Average diameters of the nanofibers were measured as 268 and 153 nm for 10 and 25 wt% of PPy contents, respectively. A relatively higher strain to failure values (23.3%) were observed for the low PPy content. When as-grown CNTs (1 and 4 wt%) were added into the PAN/PPy blends, disordered nanofibers were observed to form within the microstructure. To improve the interfacial properties of CNTs/PAN/PPy composites, CNTs were functionalized with H2SO4/HNO3/HCl solution. The functionalized CNTs were well dispersed within the nanofibers and aligned along the direction of nanofibers. Therefore, beads formation on nanofibers decreased. The impedance of the nanofibers was found to decrease with the PPy content and CNT addition. These nanofibers had a great potential to be used as an electrochemical actuator or a tissue engineering scaffold.

Development of Electrically Conductive and Anisotropic Gel-Coat Systems Using Cnts
(Elsevier Ltd., 2013) İnce Yardımcı, Atike; Tanoğlu, Metin; Selamet, Yusuf
Electrical conductivity of an unsaturated thermoset polyester based gel-coat system containing 0.05 wt.% of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was investigated. The CNTs used were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition method by methane decomposition and Raman characterization showed that they were mostly single walled and high quality. To disperse CNTs in the gel-coat resin, 3-roll milling technique was used. It was found that as the CNTs are added to gel-coat system, resistivity value decreases significantly while neat gel-coat showed a high resistivity. By the application of an AC electrical field during curing process, it was attempted to align CNTs in the gel-coat resin and an electrically anisotropic polymer was obtained. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. Layered Clay/Epoxy Nanocomposites: Thermomechanical, Flame Retardancy, and Optical Properties
(John Wiley and Sons Inc., 2008) Kaya, Elçin; Tanoğlu, Metin; Okur, Salih
In this study, layered clay/polymer nano-composites were developed based on epoxy resins and montmorillonite as the nanoplatelet reinforcement. Clay particles were treated with hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride (HTCA) through an ion exchange reaction. In this way, Na+ interlay er cations of the clay is exchanged with onium cation of the surfactant that turns the hydrophilic clays (MMT) to organophilic (OMMT) characteristics. Thermal analysis results revealed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) and the dynamic mechanical properties including the storage and loss modulus of the neat epoxy resin increases by the incorporation of clay particles. It was also found that flame resistance of the polymer is improved by the addition of the clay particles.

Electrical and Mechanical Properties of Superconducting Mgb2/Mg Metal Matrix Composites
(IOP Publishing Ltd., 2006) Eğilmez, Mehmet; Özyüzer, Lütfi; Tanoğlu, Metin; Okur, Salih; Kamer, Orhan; Öner, Yıldırhan
MgB2/Mg composites were prepared using a metal matrix composite fabrication method that offers the potential to produce superconducting wires as an alternative approach to the powder in tube process. To obtain composites, MgB2 and Mg powders were mixed at different weight fractions and uniaxially pressed in a cylindrical die under the pressure of 0.5 and 1.0GPa for two hours at various temperatures. The x-ray diffraction technique was used for phase identification. Temperature dependence of resistivity and magnetization measurements were carried out to determine superconducting properties. The effects of composite fabrication temperature and the addition of the Mg on the mechanical properties of MgB2/Mg composites were investigated. For this purpose, the compressive mechanical testing was performed to measure the elastic modulus and fracture strength values of the composites. It was found that the relative weight fraction of the Mg and the fabrication conditions of the composites have considerable effect on the superconducting and mechanical properties of the composites.

Mgb2 Superconducting Thin Films Sequentially Fabricated Using Dc Magnetron Sputtering and Thermionic Vacuum Arc Method
(Elsevier Ltd., 2007) Okur, Salih; Kalkancı, M.; Pat, Suat; Ekem, Naci; Akan, Tamer; Balbağ, Zafer; Musa, G.; Tanoğlu, Metin
In this work, we discuss fabrication and characterization of MgB2 thin films obtained by sequential deposition and annealing of sandwich like Mg/B/Mg thin films on glass substrates. Mg and B films were prepared using DC magnetron sputtering and thermionic vacuum arc techniques, respectively. The MgB2 thin films showed superconducting critical transition at 33 K after annealing at 650 °C.

Temperature Dependence of Electrical Conductivity in Double-Wall and Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotube/Polyester Nanocomposites
(Springer Verlag, 2007) Şimşek, Yılmaz; Özyüzer, Lütfi; Seyhan, Abdullah Tuğrul; Tanoğlu, Metin; Schulte, Karl
The aim of this study is to investigate temperature dependence of electrical conductivity of carbon nanotube (CNT)/polyester nanocomposites from room temperature to 77 K using four-point probe test method. To produce nanocomposites, various types and amounts of CNTs (0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 wt.%) were dispersed via 3-roll mill technique within a specially formulized resin blend of thermoset polyesters. CNTs used in the study include multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNT) with and without amine functional groups (-NH2). It was observed that the incorporation of carbon nanotubes into resin blend yields electrically percolating networks and electrical conductivity of the resulting nanocomposites increases with increasing amount of nanotubes. However, nanocomposites containing amino functionalized carbon nanotubes exhibit relatively lower electrical conductivity compared to those with non-functionalized carbon nanotubes. To get better interpretation of the mechanism leading to conductive network via CNTs with and without amine functional groups, the experimental results were fitted to fluctuation-induced tunneling through the barriers between the metallic regions model. It was found that the results are in good agreement with prediction of proposed model.

Electrical and Microstructural Properties of Superconducting Mgb 2/Mg Composites
(Trans Tech Publications, 2004) Eğilmez, Mehmet; Günel, Aylin; Okur, Salih; Tanoğlu, Metin; Özyüzer, Lütfi
MgB2/Mg composites were prepared to improve mechanical properties of brittle superconducting MgB2. MgB2 and Mg powders were mixed at different weight ratios and uniaxially pressed in a cylindrical dye at 0.5 GPa and at various temperatures for two hours to prepare MgB2/Mg composites. X-ray diffraction, SEM and EDX were used for phase identification and microstructural characterization. In addition to the main MgB2 and Mg phases, the microstructural studies have indicated the presence of a minor amounts of second phases, namely MgO and B-rich compounds. The surface morphology, grain size and porosity ratio of the samples prepared under various temperatures were also investigated. The resistivity measurements were performed in the range of room temperature to 15 K. The effect of excess Mg and secondary phases on critical temperature of MgB2/Mg composites were studied.

Strain Gauges of Gasb-Fega1.3 Eutectic Composites
    (Springer Verlag, 2004) Aliyev, M.I.; Khalilova, A. A.; Arasly, D. H.; Rahimov, R. N.; Tanoğlu, Metin; Özyüzer, Lütfi
A needle-shaped metallic FeGa1.3 phase oriented in a specific direction and uniformly distributed within a GaSb matrix was grown by a vertical Bridgman method. Strain-gauge characteristics, such as strain-sensitivity coefficient (S), temperature coefficient of strain sensitivity (TCS) and temperature coefficient of resistance, of GaSb and GaSb-FeGa1.3 eutectic alloy have been investigated in the range of 200 to 400 K under deformation up to strains of 1.3 × 10-3. The value of S of the GaSb-FeGa1.3 composition is measured to be 40 ± 5 and its TCS is about 0.2% deg-1 when the current is perpendicular to the needles and the needles are parallel to the plane of the gauge substrate. The strain-sensitivity characteristics are linear and hysteresis free in the investigated temperature range in the aforementioned direction. It was found that GaSb-FeGa1.3-based strain gauges possess better deformation characteristics than GaSb-based gauges.

Features of Electron and Phonon Processes in Gasb-Fega1.3 Eutectics
    (IOP Publishing Ltd., 2003) Aliyev, M. I.; Khalilova, A. A.; Arasly, D. H.; Rahimov, R. N.; Tanoğlu, Metin; Özyüzer, Lütfi
Eutectic alloys of GaSb-FeGa1.3 were prepared by the vertical Bridgman method. A microstructure with the needle-shaped metallic FeGa1.3 phase oriented in a specific direction and uniformly distributed within the GaSb matrix was obtained. In GaSb-FeGa1.3 eutectics, the electrical and thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, thermoelectric power and Hall coefficients were investigated in a wide temperature range. These properties were measured at different mutual directions of current, thermal flow, magnetic field and metal phase inclusions. The influence of metallic inclusions on these properties was revealed and the distinctive characteristics of electron and phonon processes were established.
