Enterprise Systems Applications Development Plans To Build and Develop Robust and Environmentally Sensitive Green Logistics Systems Management Software
(Springer Verlag, 2009) Yıldız, Türkay; Yercan, Funda
Within the concept of enterprise-wide development of environmentally sensitive systems' application modules to fully integrate all-in-one green logistics services principles have received much attention and consideration from practitioners, academia, and from the industry, for about more than a decade. However, by taking into the consideration of the multidisciplinary nature of the issue, large scale effective collaborative framework is needed to be developed. Therefore, utilization of UML diagrams, class definitions, defining class relationships, fields, tables, views, etc. so on play crucial roles in the design phases of the enterprise system. Thus, this article largely deals with the major logistics work processes and their interactions within the consideration of environmental engineering issues on business operations to address step-by-step process control mechanisms to provide necessary input to build robust-design and better implementation of the needed IT software backbone.

Exergetic and Exergoeconomic Aspects of Ground-Source (geothermal) Heat Pumps in Turkey
(Taylor & Francis, 2014) Hepbaşlı, Arif; Hancıoğlu Kuzgunkaya, Ebru
The demand for energy has recently increased rapidly as a result of the world’s population increase and industrial growth. On the contrary, fossil fuel supply is declining due to depletion of the resources. Moreover, utilization of fossil fuel energy resources has resulted in adverse effects on the global environment. In this regard, there is an urgent need to implement the use of sustainable and environmentally clean energy sources. In this context, renewable energy sources, including geothermal sources, can play a critical role in meeting the energy demands of societies.

Logistics has been identified as an area to build cost and service advantages. Therefore, companies are more focused on customer needs and trying to find ways to reduce costs, improve quality and meet the growing expectations of their clients. Indeed, the global competition has led managers to begin to address the issue of providing more efficient logistics services. In this regard, this paper presents an empirical study on logistics performance and global competitiveness. This paper also identifies the associations between logistics performances and global competitiveness. The results indicate that some variables in global competitiveness scores contribute much higher to the logistics performances than the other variables through analysis. The variables that contribute much higher than the other variables to the logistics performances are shown.

The European Union and Turkey: a Review of Their Commonalities and Disparities Using Cluster Analysis
(Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, 2014) Yıldız, Türkay
Turkey has enjoyed considerable economic growth over the past decade and has a positive economic outlook and strong growth prospects. The country benefits from being located between Europe and the major energy producers in the Middle East in the so-called strategic energy corridor. The issue of Turkey's accession to the EU has long been on the political agenda in Europe. Indeed, Turkey has made considerable efforts to become a full EU member state. However, the accession negotiations for EU membership continue, while Turkey has recently refused to open new accession chapters with the EU and instead has turned its attention to other regional developments. Turkey has strengthened its swtrategic ties with a wide range of countries including those in Europe and the Middle East. It also plays an influential role in a geography that stretches across the former Soviet Union nations. In this paper, the path of Turkey's accession issues is reviewed and the direction of its economy based on the measure of GDP per capita is forecast using an autoregressive integrated moving average model. In addition, the cluster analysis technique is adopted in order to measure the possible standing of Turkey among EU members, the similarities between EU members, and the current path to becoming an EU member state.

Application of Geothermal Energy and Its Environmental Problems in Turkey
(Inderscience Enterprises Ltd., 2015) Baba, Alper
Human beings have been benefiting from geothermal energy for different uses since the dawn of the civilisation in many parts of the world. One of the earliest uses of geothermal energy was for heating and it was used extensively by Romans in Turkey. The Aegean region is favoured by a large number of thermal springs known since ancient times. However, it was first in the 20th century that geothermal energy was used on a large scale for direct use and electricity generation. The country's installed heat capacity is 2,705 MWt for direct use and 322.39 MWe for power production. In parallel to developing geothermal energy applications in Turkey, many sites are now experiencing problems such as water contamination associated with geothermal fluid. Especially, the high temperature solution of elements and compounds, causes operational limitations in geothermal power plants. These limitations are due to the severe scaling and corrosion of geothermal fluid. Copyright © 2015 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Exergy analysis of food drying processes
(Springer Verlag, 2010) Çolak, Neslihan; Balta, Mustafa T.; İçier, Filiz; Hancıoğlu, Ebru; Hepbaşlı, Arif; Erbay, Zafer
It is well known that micro-level system parameters may have some great impact on macro-level energy aspects, the environment, and sustainability. Of course, if one wants to approach these thermodynamically, there are two ways: energy analysis through the first law of thermodynamics and exergy analysis through the second law of thermodynamics. Exergy analysis is an essential tool to expose the impacts of a power generating device on exergy-based sustainability; sustainability is necessary to overcome current ecological, economic, and developmental problems (Dincer and Rosen, 2005). In this regard, some new exergy-based sustainability parameters for a PEM fuel cell have been developed and studied parametrically to investigate how they will help measure the level of environmental impact and sustainable development (Midilli and Dincer, 2009). These types of parameters may also be applied to other energy-related systems.
