With the participation of IZTECH (Izmir Institute of Technology) in OpenairePlus project in 2011, OpenAIRE 2020 project in 2015 and OpenAIRE Advance project in 2018, Open Access and Open Science practices gained tremendous momentum in the country. This poster will provide information about series of developments in Open Access and Open Science both at policy and infrastructure level in Turkey since 2011 as a result of participation in OpenAIRE projects. Turkey is the one of the largest higher education landscape with the 206 universities in Europe. The 129 of these universities are financed publicly, and the rest are the private, foundation universities. Therefore, it is important to be aligned with Europe and beyond in the Open Science movement. Before the participation of OpenAIREPlus project in 2011, the number of institutional repositories were very few and there were no Open Access or Open Science policy in place. In 2010, the number of institutional repositories in DOAR from Turkey was only 11 but by August 2019 this number is 111. Advocacy and negotiations with TUBITAK-ULAKBIM (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey - Turkish Academic Network and Information Center) resulted in the establishment of National Harvesting System called “Turkey Academic Archive”. In this portal, there are 857.078 records from 94 institutions by August 2019. TUBITAK-ULAKBIM DergiPark which is an open journal publishing system now includes 2.008 journals by August 2019 and is also one of the biggest OpenAIRE data provider. OpenAIRE strengthened the Turkish community to achieve these through its recommendations, knowledge sharing, and good practices within the network as well as its training activities. OpenAIRE helps building the future of open science.Presentation Leadership in Open Access Arena in Turkey and Effect of Openaire Projects(Izmir Institute of Technology, 2019) Gürdal, Gültekin15-17 Ocak 2019 tarihinde Macaristan'da University of Debrecen'de gerçekleşen "OpenAIRE Advence General Assembly" toplantısında Flash Talks kapsamında gerçekleştirilen sunumdur.Book Implementing Open Access Mandates in Europe: Openaire Study on the Development of Open Access Repository Communities in Europe(Universitätsverlag Göttingen, 2012) Schmidt, Birgit; Kuchma, IrynaThe Openaire project supports the implementation of Europe’s open access policies as outlined in the European Research Council’s Guidelines for Open Access and the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) Open Access Pilot. This work highlights existing open access policies in Europe and provides an overview of publishers’ self-archiving policies. It also highlights the strategies needed to implement these policies. It provides a unique overview of national awareness of open access in 32 European countries involving all eu member states and in addition, Norway, Iceland, Croatia, Switzerland and Turkey. Moreover, it describes funder and institutional open access mandates in Europe and national strategies to introduce and implement them. An overview is provided of the repository infrastructure currently in place in European countries, including institutional and disciplinary repositories, national repository networks and national open access information portals and support networks. There are robust regional and national networks of open access advocates representing libraries and some research discipline communities. More than half of the European countries covered in this work have already established national repository infrastructures. In some of these countries, the FP7 Open Access Pilot was the catalyst for discussions about funders’ open access policies and the development of national research infrastructures (e.g. in Bulgaria, Estonia and Slovenia).
