In the analysis, the vessels were loaded with increasing internal pressure up to the burst pressure level. In the analytical part of the study, the burst pressure of the cylindrical part was predicted based on the modified von Mises, Tresca, and average shear stress criterion (ASSC). In the numerical analysis, a finite element (FE) model was established in order to predict the behavior of the vessel as a function of increasing internal pressure and determine the final burst. The Al pressure vessels made of Al-6061-T6 alloy with a capacity of 5 L were designed. The manufacturing of the metallic vessels was purchased from a metal forming company. The experimental study was conducted by pressurizing the Al vessels until the burst failure occurred. The radial and axial strain behaviors were monitored at various locations on the vessels during loading. The results obtained through analytical, numerical, and experimental work were compared. The average experimental burst pressure of the vessels was found to be 279 bar. The experimental strain data were compared with the results of the FE analysis. The results indicated that the FE analysis and ASSC-based elastoplastic analytical approaches yielded the best predictions which are within 2.2% of the experimental burst failure values. It was also found that the elastic analysis underestimated the burst failure results; however, it was effective for determining the critical regions over the vessel structure. The strain behavior of the vessels obtained through experimental investigations was well correlated with those predicted through FE analysis.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 26Optimization of Hip Implant Designs Based on Its Mechanical Behaviour(Springer, 2022) Göktaş, Hasan; Subaşı, Eda; Uzkut, Metin; Kara, Mustafa; Biçici, Hamit; Shirazi, Hadi; Mihçin, ŞenayTotal Hip Arthroplasty (THA) is one of the best advancements in healthcare. THA is required when the hip joint causes immobility and pain. The designed hip implants vary in geometry with different geometrical parameters. The geometry plays an important role in the mechanical behavior of the hip implant. In this study, the optimum selection of hip implant under static loading was evaluated using Finite Element Modeling (FEM). Hip implants with three different stem cross-sections including. (a) elliptic, (b) oval, and (c) trapezoidal were designed using a commercial Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software package. The FEM analysis was carried out via ANSYS R2019 to assess the key mechanical parameters of the implants such as stress distribution and deformation. The results were evaluated for the best stress and strain values. The optimum design had equivalent stress (von Misses) of 258,1 MPa, equivalent strain of 0.004, with total deformation of 0.24 mm and frictional stress of 0.362 MPa producing best values for trapezoidal cross-sectioned design. Free vibration responses of damaged beams are examined using Euler Bernoulli beam and classical lamination theories. A computer code is developed by using MATLAB software to determine the natural frequencies of a damaged beam. The local damage zone is assumed to be on the surface lamina of the beam by broken fibers after impact. The damaged zone is modeled as a unidirectional discontinuous lamina with 0 degrees orientations in this study. Fiber volume fraction (v(f)), fiber aspect ratio (L-f/d(f)), damage length (L-D) and its location (lambda/L), fiber orientation and stacking sequence parameters effects on natural frequencies are investigated. These parameters are affected the natural frequency values significantly.
