Conference Object Carrier Frequency Offset Based Shared Randomness for Secure Transmission in M-Psk Noma(IEEE, 2023) Göztepe, Caner; Karabulut Kurt, Güneş; Özbek, BernaPower domain non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) enhances spectral efficiency by superposing multiple users in the same time-frequency resource block at the expense of exposing the users' data. However, current approaches to improve the secrecy levels of users are limited to rate reduction. This paper proposes a secure NOMA system based on the shared randomness extracted from the reciprocal carrier frequency offsets (CFOs) between the transmitter-receiver pairs for M-ary phase-shift keying. As multiple users will have physically separated oscillators, it will result in independent CFOs among users. This randomness is used to introduce a constellation rotation in the transmitted symbols. We show that under ideal CFO estimates, the proposed approach achieves perfect secrecy among all NOMA users without introducing any rate reduction. We also demonstrate the practical applicability of the proposed approach by using a software-defined radio-based test bed. © 2023 IEEE.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2Integrated Space Domain Awareness and Communication System(IEEE, 2023) Geçgel Çetin, Selen; Özbek, Berna; Karabulut Kurt, GüneşSpace has been reforming and this evolution brings new threats that, together with technological developments and malicious intent, can pose a major challenge. Space domain awareness (SDA), a new conceptual idea, has come to the forefront. It aims sensing, detection, identification and countermeasures by providing autonomy, intelligence and flexibility against potential threats in space. In this study, we first present an insightful and clear view of the new space. Secondly, we propose an integrated SDA and communication (ISDAC) system for attacker detection. We assume that the attacker has advanced communication capabilities to vary attack scenarios, such as random attacks on some receiver antennas. To track random patterns and meet SDA requirements, a lightweight convolutional neural network architecture is developed. The proposed ISDAC system shows superior and robust performance under 12 different super-attacker configurations with a detection accuracy of over 97.8%. © 2023 IEEE.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 5Design and Implementation of Spatial Correlation-Based Clustering for Multiuser Miso-Noma Systems(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2021) Göztepe, Caner; Özbek, Berna; Karabulut Kurt, GüneşIn this letter, we propose a novel user clustering algorithm for downlink multiuser multiple-input single-output (MISO) non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems along with its implementation in a real-time testing environment. The proposed method selects the clusters by considering users' spatial channel properties against the generated orthogonal directions. This is then followed by power allocation and zero-forcing precoding steps to mitigate the interference between the selected clusters. Performance comparisons are provided in terms of both real-time tests and simulations. It is demonstrated that a notable improvement in capacity and reliability can be obtained through the proposed approach in multiuser MISO-NOMA systems with reduced complexity.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 1Yüksek İrtifa Platform İstasyonları için Korelasyon Matrisinin Yaklaşımı(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2021) Cengiz, Aybüke; Tedik Başaran, Semiha; Karabulut Kurt, Güneş; Özbek, Berna; Yanıkömeroğlu, HalimA High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) is a new and promising technology with different uses like wireless communication services, traffic monitoring, navigation applications and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Since it is positioned much higher than ground-level users, line-of-sight (LOS) is more common in HAPS systems. Especially in HAPS systems that include multiple antennas, the effect of correlation between antennas is an important factor limiting the performance. The effect of correlation is strongly influenced by the spacing between the antenna elements and environmental factors. This effect can be reduced by the effect of rich scattering environment in terrestrial Multi-Input/Multi-Output (MIMO) systems, yet this observation is not applicable to HAPS systems. In this study, a tight bound expression for the correlation matrix which does not have an expression in closed form and has a significant place in the performance of HAPS systems has been obtained. Comprehensive numerical values have been obtained under different system parameters to demonstrate the convergence performance of the approximate expression to the real value, and the results have been compared. © 2021 IEEE.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 3Space-Frequency Grouping Based Key Extraction for Mimo-Ofdm Systems(IEEE, 2017) Topal, Ozan Alp; Karabulut Kurt, Güneş; Özbek, BernaLatest developments in wireless communication networks push the limits of conventional security methods. Security can be improved with a secret key that is dynamically generated based on the surrounding physical environment. With this objective, physical layer security approaches can be implemented by means of simple signal processing methods. In this paper, we propose novel key extraction approaches based on spatial and frequency characteristics of the wireless environment. In a 2x2 MIMO-OFDM system, low key disagreement rates and key error rates are observed, proving the potential of physical layer key extraction techniques.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2Secure Multiuser Miso Communication Systems With Limited Feedback Link(Springer Verlag, 2018) Özbek, Berna; Özdoğan Şenol, Özgecan; Karabulut Kurt, GüneşPhysical layer security is one of the promising techniques for the security of next-generation wireless systems. In this paper, we analyze the impact of the limited feedback link on the secrecy capacity for a system which includes a base station with multiple antennas, a single legitimate user selected from multiple active ones and multiple eavesdroppers. We propose to design a limited feedback link by reducing the feedback load and quantizing the channel state information (CSI) of legitimate users to establish a secure communication system. The feedback load is decreased with a self discrimination criterion at the legitimate users’ side while keeping the secrecy capacity constant. The best legitimate user is selected based on the quantized CSI through a limited feedback link. We also analyze the impact of CSI of eavesdroppers, which information may or may not be available at transmitter. In practical cases where eavesdroppers are passive and their location is not known by the transmitter, an artificial noise is used to disrupt their reception. When the CSI of eavesdroppers is known, the generalized singular value decomposition is applied. We illustrate the performance results of the proposed limited feedback link through the availability of CSI of eavesdroppers at the transmitter.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Spatial Signature for Secure Miso-Ofdm Systems(Institution of Engineering and Technology, 2018) Özbek, Berna; Karabulut Kurt, GüneşPhysical layer security is a promising approach to establish secure communications based on the characteristics of wireless channels. A spatial signature based secure multiple-input single-output (MISO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system is proposed to disrupt the reception of a passive eavesdropper by holding two practically relevant assumptions: a limited feedback link for legitimate node and the unavailability of channel state information of eavesdropper. The proposed algorithm achieves a higher average secrecy rate than the conventional secure MISO-OFDM systems in presence of a limited feedback link.Article Citation - WoS: 20Citation - Scopus: 22Key Error Rates in Physical Layer Key Generation: Theoretical Analysis and Measurement-Based Verification(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2017) Topal, Ozan Alp; Karabulut Kurt, Güneş; Özbek, BernaChannel gains are frequently used to obtain a secret key that can be used for encryption in physical layer security systems. However, the channel gains captured by the nodes may not always be the same due to channel estimation errors. This would result in a non-zero key error rate (KER). In this letter, we obtain theoretical expressions for KER in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems. Tight KER approximations are provided based on Gauss-Laguerre quadrature. A measurementbased study is conducted by using software defined radio nodes to demonstrate the validity and the practicality of the provided results.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Güvenli Çoklu Kullanıcılı Mıso Sistemlerde Eşik Değerine Dayalı Kullanıcı Seçim Performansı(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2016) Özdoğan, Özgecan; Özbek, Berna; Karabulut Kurt, GüneşFiziksel katmanda güvenlik metotları, telsiz ağların yapısından kaynaklanan güvenlik sorunlarının çözülmesi adına umut vaat etmektedir. Fakat her kullanıcının kanal bilgisini baz istasyonuna iletmesi haberleşme sistemindeki yükü (overhead) arttırır. Bu yükü azaltmak amacıyla alıcı tarafında eşik değerine bağlı kullanıcı seçimi algoritması uygulanarak, bu seçimin güvenlik kapasitesi değeri üzerine etkilerini incelenmiştir.Conference Object Yazılım Tabanlı Radyolarda Karşılıklı Kanal Özelliğinin İncelenmesi(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2016) Uslu, Merve; Tuğrel, Halim Bahadır; Karabulut Kurt, Güneş; Özbek, BernaKablosuz haberleşme sistemlerinde, kanal kestirimi çok önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Bu çalışmada A ve B, iki haberleşme düğümü olduğu varsayıldığında, A düğümünden B düğümüne olan kanal için elde edilen kanal katsayıları ile, B düğümünden A düğümüne olan kanal için elde edilen kanal katsayılarının benzerliği incelenmiştir. Karşılıklı kanal özelliğinden dolayı bu kanalların birbirine benzer çıkmaları beklenmektedir. Bu çalışmada, laboratuvar ortamında yazılım tabanlı radyo kitleri kullanılarak karşılıklı kanal özelliği test ortamında test edilmiş, bu iki kanal katsayılarının genlik ve faz ortalama değerleri karşılaştırılmıştır.
