Communication time has the highest impact on them both. Static query optimization can end up with inefficient execution plans due to unpredictable data arrival rates and missing statistics. This study is an extension of adaptive join operator which always begins with symmetric hash join to minimize the response time, and can change the join method to bind join to minimize the completion time. The authors extend adaptive join operator with bind-bloom join to further reduce the communication time and, consequently, to minimize the completion time. They compare the new operator with symmetric hash join, bind join, bind-bloom join, and adaptive join operator with respect to the response time and the completion time. Performance evaluation shows that the extended operator provides optimal response time and further reduces the completion time. Moreover, it has the adaptation ability to different data arrival rates.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 2A Case Study for Seismic Assessment and Restoration of Historic Buildings: the Arditi Residence(IGI Global Publishing, 2015) Dönmez, Cemalettin; Erberik, Murat AltuğThis chapter focuses on seismic assessment and restoration of one of the numerous historical buildings in Turkey; the Arditi Residence in Urla, Izmir. It is a 150 years old two story masonry building located in a seismically active region. From the structural point of view, the building can be regarded as a mixed system since three different techniques had been used during the construction. The Arditi Residence has been investigated in three stages: preliminary evaluation, seismic performance assessment and intervention. The building has been observed to possess serious deficiencies, which are not easy to handle due to the complexity of the construction system. On the other hand, the proposed intervention strategies should have the minimal impact on the historic information building carrying and provide a certain level of safety against the seismic demands. Overall, the chapter presents a contribution to seismic assessment and restoration of historical structures on the basis of Arditi Residence, a unique historical building with serious problems in an earthquake-prone region.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 4Full-Exact Approach for Frequent Itemset Hiding(IGI Global Publishing, 2015) Ayav, Tolga; Ergenç, BelginThis paper proposes a novel, exact approach that relies on integer programming for association rule hiding. A large panorama of solutions exists for the complex problem of itemset hiding: from practical heuristic approaches to more accurate exact approaches. Exact approaches provide better solutions while suffering from the lack of performance and existing exact approaches still augment their methods with heuristics to make the problem solvable. In this case, the solution may not be optimum. This work present a full-exact method, without any need for heuristics. Extensive tests are conducted on 10 real datasets to analyze distance and information loss performances of the algorithm in comparison to a former similar algorithm. Since the approach provides the optimum solution to the problem, it should be considered as a reference method.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 6Urban Information Systems in Turkish Local Governments(IGI Global Publishing, 2005) Velibeyoğlu, KoraySince the end of 1980s, different sectors have implemented geographical information systems (GIS) in Turkey. A study on GIS market in Turkey indicates that municipalities are the primary customers (Gülersoy & Yigiter, 1999). One of the earliest GIS projects in Turkey began with the production of digital maps covering the boundaries of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in 1987. Since 1994, a rapid development process has occurred with the widespread diffusion of GIS especially in universities and large public sector organizations respectively. However, the early city-wide municipal GIS projects were initiated only after 1996 (Ucuzal, 1999).
