Observation of Bs 0 Mesons and Measurement of the Bs 0/B+ Yield Ratio in Pbpb Collisions at [formula Presented] Tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2022) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Bergauer, T.; Dragicevic, M.; Erö, J.; Kirakosyan, M.
The Bs 0 and B+ production yields are measured in PbPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.02 TeV. The data sample, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 nb−1. The mesons are reconstructed in the exclusive decay channels B→s0J/ψ(μ+μ−)ϕ(K+K−) and B→+J/ψ(μ+μ−)K+, in the transverse momentum range 7–50 GeV/c and absolute rapidity 0–2.4. The Bs 0 meson is observed with a statistical significance in excess of five standard deviations for the first time in nucleus-nucleus collisions. The measurements are performed as functions of the transverse momentum of the B mesons and of the PbPb collision centrality. The ratio of production yields of Bs 0 and B+ is measured and compared to theoretical models that include quark recombination effects. © 2022 The Author(s)

Study of J/Ψ Meson Production Inside Jets in pp Collisions at S=8 TeV
    (Elsevier B.V., 2020) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Bergauer, T.; Brandstetter, J.; Hensel, C.
A study of the production of prompt J/ψ mesons contained in jets in proton-proton collisions at s=8TeV is presented. The analysis is based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.1 fb−1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. For events with at least one observed jet, the angular separation between the J/ψ meson and the jet is used to test whether the J/ψ meson is part of the jet. The analysis shows that most prompt J/ψ mesons having energy above 15 GeV and rapidity |y|<1 are contained in jets with pseudorapidity |η<inf>jet</inf>|<1. The differential distributions of the probability to have a J/ψ meson contained in a jet as a function of jet energy for a fixed J/ψ energy fraction are compared to a theoretical model using the fragmenting jet function approach. The data agree best with fragmenting jet function calculations that use a long-distance matrix element parameter set in which prompt J/ψ mesons are predicted to be unpolarized. This technique demonstrates a new way to test predictions for prompt J/ψ production using nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics. © 2020 Elsevier B.V.

Measurement of the Azimuthal Anisotropy of [Formula Presented] and [Formula Presented] Mesons in PbPb Collisions at S NN =5.02 TeV
    (Elsevier B.V., 2021) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Bergauer, T.; Dragicevic, M.; De Jesus Damiao, D.
The second-order Fourier coefficients (v<inf>2</inf>) characterizing the azimuthal distributions of [Formula presented] and [Formula presented] mesons produced in PbPb collisions at s<inf> <inf>NN</inf> </inf>=5.02TeV are studied. The [Formula presented] mesons are reconstructed in their dimuon decay channel, as measured by the CMS detector. The collected data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.7nb−1. The scalar product method is used to extract the v<inf>2</inf> coefficients of the azimuthal distributions. Results are reported for the rapidity range |y|<2.4, in the transverse momentum interval 0<p<inf>T</inf><50GeV/c, and in three centrality ranges of 10–30%, 30–50% and 50–90%. In contrast to the J/ψ mesons, the measured v<inf>2</inf> values for the [Formula presented] mesons are found to be consistent with zero. © 2021 The Author(s)

Measurement of Ckm Matrix Elements in Single Top Quark T-Channel Production in Proton-Proton Collisions at S=13 Tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2020) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Bergauer, T.; Dragicevic, M.; Sobol, A.
The first direct, model-independent measurement is presented of the modulus of the Cabibbo–Kobayashi–Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements |η|Vtb, |η|Vtd, and |η|Vts, in final states enriched in single top quark t-channel events. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data from the LHC, collected during 2016 by the CMS experiment, at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. Processes directly sensitive to these matrix elements are considered at both the production and decay vertices of the top quark. In the standard model hypothesis of CKM unitarity, a lower limit of |η|Vtb>0.970 is measured at the 95% confidence level. Several theories beyond the standard model are considered, and by releasing all constraints among the involved parameters, the values |η|Vtb=0.988±0.024, and |η|Vtd 2+|η|Vts 2=0.06±0.06, where the uncertainties include both statistical and systematic components, are measured. © 2020 The Author

Measurement of Differential Cross Sections for Z Boson Pair Production in Association With Jets at S=8 and 13 Tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2019) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Okhotnikov, V.
This Letter reports measurements of differential cross sections for the production of two Z bosons in association with jets in proton–proton collisions at s=8 and 13 TeV. The analysis is based on data samples collected at the LHC with the CMS detector, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 19.7 and 35.9fb−1 at 8 and 13 TeV, respectively. The measurements are performed in the leptonic decay modes ZZ→ℓ+ℓ−ℓ′+ℓ′−, where ℓ,ℓ′=e,μ. The differential cross sections as a function of the jet multiplicity, the transverse momentum pT, and pseudorapidity of the pT -leading and subleading jets are presented. In addition, the differential cross sections as a function of variables sensitive to the vector boson scattering, such as the invariant mass of the two pT -leading jets and their pseudorapidity separation, are reported. The results are compared to theoretical predictions and found in good agreement within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties. © 2018 The Author(s)

Non-Gaussian Elliptic-Flow Fluctuations in Pbpb Collisions at Snn=5.02tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2019) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Vizan Garcia, J.M.
Event-by-event fluctuations in the elliptic-flow coefficient v2 are studied in PbPb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV using the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. Elliptic-flow probability distributions p(v2) for charged particles with transverse momentum 0.3<pT<3.0GeV/c and pseudorapidity |η|<1.0 are determined for different collision centrality classes. The moments of the p(v2) distributions are used to calculate the v2 coefficients based on cumulant orders 2, 4, 6, and 8. A rank ordering of the higher-order cumulant results and nonzero standardized skewness values obtained for the p(v2) distributions indicate non-Gaussian initial-state fluctuations. Bessel–Gaussian and elliptic power fits to the flow distributions are studied to characterize the initial-state spatial anisotropy. © 2018 The Author(s)

Measurement of Prompt Ψ(2s) Production Cross Sections in Proton–lead and Proton–proton Collisions at Snn=5.02tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2019) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Uzunian, A.
Measurements of prompt ψ(2S) meson production cross sections in proton–lead (pPb) and proton–proton (pp) collisions at a nucleon–nucleon center-of-mass energy of sNN=5.02TeV are reported. The results are based on pPb and pp data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 34.6 nb−1 and 28.0 pb−1, respectively. The nuclear modification factor RpPb is measured for prompt ψ(2S) in the transverse momentum range 4<pT<30GeV/c and the center-of-mass rapidity range −2.4<yCM<1.93. The results on ψ(2S) RpPb are compared to the corresponding modification factor for prompt J/ψ mesons. The results point to different nuclear effects at play in the production of the excited charmonium state compared to the ground state, in the region of backward rapidity and for pT<10GeV/c. © 2019 The Author

Search for Supersymmetric Partners of Electrons and Muons in Proton–proton Collisions at S=13tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2019) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Slabospitskii, S.
A search for direct production of the supersymmetric (SUSY) partners of electrons or muons is presented in final states with two opposite-charge, same-flavour leptons (electrons and muons), no jets, and large missing transverse momentum. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1 of proton–proton collisions at s=13TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016. The search uses the MT2 variable, which generalises the transverse mass for systems with two invisible objects and provides a discrimination against standard model backgrounds containing W bosons. The observed yields are consistent with the expectations from the standard model. The search is interpreted in the context of simplified SUSY models and probes slepton masses up to approximately 290, 400, and 450 GeV, assuming right-handed only, left-handed only, and both right- and left-handed sleptons (mass degenerate selectrons and smuons), and a massless lightest supersymmetric particle. Limits are also set on selectrons and smuons separately. These limits show an improvement on the existing limits of approximately 150 GeV. © 2019 The Author(s)

Measurement of Nuclear Modification Factors of ϒ(1s), ϒ(2s), and ϒ(3s) Mesons in Pbpb Collisions at Snn=5.02 Tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2019) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Kalinin, A.
The cross sections for ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), and ϒ(3S) production in lead–lead (PbPb) and proton–proton (pp) collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV have been measured using the CMS detector at the LHC. The nuclear modification factors, RAA, derived from the PbPb-to-pp ratio of yields for each state, are studied as functions of meson rapidity and transverse momentum, as well as PbPb collision centrality. The yields of all three states are found to be significantly suppressed, and compatible with a sequential ordering of the suppression, RAA(ϒ(1S))>RAA(ϒ(2S))>RAA(ϒ(3S)). The suppression of ϒ(1S) is larger than that seen at sNN=2.76TeV, although the two are compatible within uncertainties. The upper limit on the RAA of ϒ(3S) integrated over pT, rapidity and centrality is 0.096 at 95% confidence level, which is the strongest suppression observed for a quarkonium state in heavy ion collisions to date. © 2019 The Author(s)

Observation of Prompt J/Ψ Meson Elliptic Flow in High-Multiplicity Ppb Collisions at √snn=8.16 Tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2019) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Petrov, V.
A measurement of the elliptic flow (v2) of prompt J/ψ mesons in high-multiplicity pPb collisions is reported using data collected by the CMS experiment at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy sNN=8.16TeV. Prompt J/ψ mesons decaying into two muons are reconstructed in the rapidity region in the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass frame (ycm), corresponding to either −2.86<ycm<−1.86 or 0.94<ycm<1.94. The average v2 result from the two rapidity ranges is reported over the transverse momentum (pT) range from 0.2 to 10 GeV. Positive v2 values are observed for the prompt J/ψ meson, as extracted from long-range two-particle correlations with charged hadrons, for 2<pT<8 GeV. The prompt J/ψ results are compared with previous CMS measurements of elliptic flow for open charm mesons (D0) and strange hadrons. From these measurements, constraints can be obtained on the collective dynamics of charm quarks produced in high-multiplicity events arising from small systems. © 2019 The Author(s)
