    Transforming Crete's Sustainable Energy Landscape: a Modular Energy Island Approach

    The present paper investigates the conceptual design of a floating offshore renewable energy system-an energy island-developed to provide a sustainable long-term solution to support and expedite the transition toward renewable energy sources (RESs) as a case study in Crete Island, Greece. The optimal site selection in Crete's coastal waters was detected by carefully evaluating the potential for wind, solar, and wave energy alongside environmental and social considerations. Later, the current electricity demand was analyzed, leading to the identification of suitable technologies for renewable energy harvesting and the conceptualization of a floating structure. The findings of this research emphasize the viability of integrating diverse energy sources as a pivotal step for Crete Island to advance toward energy independence and environmental sustainability. Crete's abundant wind and solar resources underscore its capacity to host innovative projects, warranting further exploration into energy surplus storage and export.

    A Novel Approach by Combining Fuzzy Ahp and a Simulation Model To Analyze Suitability of Ports for Offshore Wind Farms

    This study presents a comprehensive suitability analysis for assessing the serviceability of existing container ports for offshore wind farms (OWFs) in Turkey, utilizing a combination of fuzzy analytical hierarchy process with Arena simulation modeling. This study is the first comprehensive analysis of offshore wind port infrastructure that integrates a multi-criteria decision making process with an Arena simulation model tailored specifically for existing container ports. The results indicate that technical criteria are deemed most critical, carrying the highest weight (0.563), with expansion potential identified as the most impactful criterion within the technical category. In addition, the study employs the Arena simulation software to forecast the operational workload on the most suitable ports following potential OWF installations.

    Towards Renewable Energy Islands in Türkiye: Potential and Challenges

    The necessity of renewables is increasing day by day due to increasing energy demand. Therefore, novel approaches and methods for producing electricity in an environmentally friendly manner are valuable and critical. The seas have enormous potential in terms of wind, waves, solar, and hydrogen systems. The study presents the investigation of the potential dynamics for energy island formation on T & uuml;rkiye borders. Also, targets, legislation, and environmental and social concerns are discussed comprehensively. Results show that offshore wind and hydrogen are promising systems shortly while solar and wave energy needs more research for T & uuml;rkiye. The Marmara and Aegean Seas are considered technically feasible for offshore wind installations, while the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas have the highest technical solar potential. In addition, the highest wave power is detected along the line from I(center dot)zmir to Antalya Coast while hydrogen energy systems receive great interest with academic and industrial projects in the Marmara Coastline. Profiting from marine energy, marine spatial planning, and grid availability are detected as the shortcoming issues in T & uuml;rkiye. The study could give critical information to energy planners, and decision makers for potential projects.
