(Black and green), sena leaf (Casia angustifolia), camomile (Matricaria chamomilla), tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus L.), cinnamon (Cinnamomum casia) and fennel (Foeniculum vulgare L.) were used as plant material in this study. Decoction was applied to R. canina, A. dracunculus and C. casia, and infusion was applied to other plant materials. Ten, 15 and 20 min were used as a time parameter for both infusion and decection. Inductive coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AEs) has been used for the determination of the elements in all infusions, decoctions and plant material. The Fe (1295.65 ppm) and Mg (3178.74 ppm) of M. officinalis, P (12698.05 ppm) and Pb (3.85 ppm) of green tea, Ca (19685.70 ppm) of C. orientalis, K (29167.53 ppm), Cu (12.18 ppm) and Na (2563.86 ppm) of C. casia, Zn (26.00 ppm) of M. chamomille and Se (23.53 ppm) contents of C. sativum were higher than the other plant materials. Ca (28.621 mg/100 ml) was the highest in concentration in the infusion of C. angustifolia for 10, 15 and 20 min. Ca could not be found in black and green teas. K (231.390 mg/100 ml) and P (24.857 mg/100 ml) contents were the highest in A. dracunculus tea. Mg (16.230 mg/100 ml) content of O. basilicum was determined as the highest. In general, the minerals that difuse to the tea at higher concentrations at the 10th minute were Ag, B, Cu, Co, Fe, ln and Zn, at the 15th minute were Ag, B, Cu, Co, K, ln and Zn and at the 20th minute were Ag, B, Cu, Co, ln, Fe and K. As a result, 10 min was the optimum time for getting the minerals into the tea, and it is apparent that plants and teas are good sources of the minerals. © 2007 Elsevier Ltd. Samples were implanted with a fluence of 10(17) ion/cm(2) and an extraction voltage of 30 kV. The study of TGA and DSC curves showed that: (1) Polymeric decomposition temperature increased, (2) T-m, Delta C-p and Delta H-m values changed while Delta C-p and Delta H-m increased. T-g value could not be measured, because of some experimental limitations. However, the increase in Delta H-m values showed that T-g values increased, (3) the branch density which indicated the increase in number of cross-link (M-c) decreased in ion implanted samples and (4) increase in Delta H-m values indicated increase in crystallinity of implanted surface of UHMWPE samples.Article Citation - WoS: 56Citation - Scopus: 63Processing, Characterization and Photocatalytic Properties of Cu Doped Tio2 Thin Films on Glass Substrate by Sol-Gel Technique(Elsevier Ltd., 2006) Çelik, Erdal; Gökçen, Z.; Azem, N. Funda Ak; Tanoğlu, Metin; Emrullahoğlu, O. F.The present paper describes processing, properties and photocatalytic application of Cu doped TiO2 thin films on glass substrate. Cu doped TiO2 coatings were successfully prepared on glass slide substrates using sol-gel method. The obtained solutions exhibit acidic characteristics. The phase structure, thermal, microstructure and surface properties of the coatings were characterized by using XRD, DTA/TG, SEM and AFM. Their adhesion properties and spectroscopic analysis were investigated by a scratch tester and UV-vis spectroscopy. Four different solutions were prepared by changing Cu/Ti ratios. Glass substrates were coated by solutions of Ti-alkoxide, Cu-chloride, glacial acetic acid and isopropanol. The obtained gel films were dried at 300 degrees C for 10 min and subsequently heat-treated at 500 degrees C for 5 min in air. The oxide thin films were annealed at 600 degrees C for 60min in air. TiO2, CuO, Cu4Ti, Ti3O5 and Cu3TiO4 phases were found in the coating. The organic matters were burned at temperatures between 200 and 350 degrees C and TiO2 crystallization was formed at 450 degrees C. The weight loss of the powder during process up to 600 degrees C is approximately 70%. The microstructural observations demonstrated that CuO content was led an improved surface morphology while thickness of the film and surface defects were increased in accordance with number of dipping. According to AFM results, it was found that as the Cu/Ti content increases the surface roughness of the films increases. In addition structural, thermal and microstructural results, it was found that the films of 0.73 ratio have better adhesion strength to the glass substrate among other coatings. The oxide films were found to be active for photocatalytic decomposition of metylene blue. The a-SiGe:H alloys produce noise power spectra similar to coplanar undoped a-Si:H films in the same temperature range. The noise power spectrum S(n) does not fit a single 1/fα power law but rather has two distinct regions, each accurately fitted by a power law, but with different slopes. The low frequency slope α1 is similar to that observed in undoped a-Si:H films varying from 1.30 to 1.46 for different Ge concentrations and shows a slight temperature dependence. At higher frequencies, the slope α2 is less than unity and temperature independent but depends on the Ge content of the film. α2 decreases from 0.60 for no Ge (pure a-Si:H) to 0.15 for 40 at.% Ge. The noise power at lower frequencies increases and at higher frequencies decreases substantially as the temperature increases from 430 to 490 K. We infer that similar noise mechanisms are operating in undoped a-SiGe:H and a-Si:H films but that the Ge content is influencing the noise, particularly the slope at higher frequencies. The stream of consciousness technique is one of the most challenging narrative techniques in writing. In both reading and teaching, this technique requires a lot of study. This study focuses on the teaching of the stream of consciousness technique taking Virginia Woolf's technical artistry in her use of sentence structure and vocabulary. Putting special emphasis on Virginia Woolf's technical artistry while dealing with this challenging technique, we hope that it will be easier to understand Woolf's style better. The thematic analysis of her works is not enough. In this study, we dealt with Virginia Woolf's three novels; Mrs Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, and The Waves. These are Virginia Woolf's well-known novels, which are considered to show her mastery in the use of stream of consciousness technique in an effective way. First, it is possible to say that in each of the books mentioned above; a different way of the stream of consciousness technique is used, which makes it peculiar to Virginia Woolf. Despite the fact that she deals with each work differently, there are some specific points common in all three of these books. Although the works are in the form of a prose, they are closer to poetry, especially To the Lighthouse and The Waves. Her vocabulary choice and the sentence structure causes the reader to feel that he is reading a poem in the form of prose. This is related to Woolf's passion to find a new narration style. She combines poetry and prose so successfully that her works are both tempting and hard to read. This study is an examination of some of the techniques Virginia Woolf used in order to create poetry in the form of prose. The structures of balance and sound as well as the use of parenthesis are analyzed in this study. In this domain, cultural heritage management (CHM) as the art, vocation and practice of managing cultural heritage resources and as a multi-discipline research area has a vital role. In recent years, the innovations, improvements and rapid advances in traditional and geographic (GIS) databases, design computing, digital architecture and archaeology, imaging sensors and scanners, computer modeling software, haptic equipments and e-learning technology, as well as the affordability and availability of many powerful graphics workstations make metadata and 3D modeling techniques for CHM with e-learning and haptic rendering (virtual reality) functionality feasible. This paper addresses the application research issue of incorporating metadata and modeling in a CHM case study and discusses the related e-learning functionality. So, in this article, a practical project is used to demonstrate the functionality and the performance of the proposed 3D modeling metadata based CHM methodology. In particular, the processing steps from image acquisition to the 3D geometric and semantic description of the Galerius Palace "Octagonon" (Thessaloniki, Greece) in a 3D digital environment are presented. Also, emphasis is put on documenting the new term 3D modeling metadata for CHM and on discussing as an open issue the concept personalized e-learning CHM scenarios. The proposed methodology has 10-2 modeling accuracy (i.e. 1% relative inaccuracy) and it is of interest for archaeology, architecture, virtual reality, e-learning, e-culture and virtual tourism.Article Citation - WoS: 15Citation - Scopus: 12Solubility and Aging of Lead Magnesium Niobate in Water(Elsevier Ltd., 2009) Şakar-Deliormanlı, Aylin; Çelik, Erdal; Polat, MehmetLead magnesium niobate (PMN) is an important relaxor ferroelectric material commonly employed in multilayer capacitor and actuator manufacturing owing to its high dielectric constant and superior electrostrictive properties. However, stability of this material in water is not very well known and there is need for a detailed investigation. In this research, solubility of lead magnesium niobate powders in water was determined as a function of solids concentration. The obtained results showed that the amount of cation leaching from the PMN surface depends on the pH value of the suspension and the solids concentration. The Pb2+ and Mg2+ ion dissolution was very high especially in the acidic pH range. Nevertheless, neither the dissolution mechanism nor the effects of dissolved ions on the stability were the same for those ions. In this work, replacement of styryl substituent with 2-naphthyl and 3-quinoyl gave new analogues which may have less conformational changes compared to the lead compound. Anti-proliferative tests indicated that 2-naphthyl substituted (R)-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-one has slightly better cytotoxicity than (R)-goniothalamin. Because of its high dielectric constant and superior electrostrictive properties it is commonly used in the manufacture of multilayer electronic devices which is typically produced by tape casting. However, preparation of PMN slurry formulations to use in aqueous tape casting process is not investigated in detail yet. Therefore, in this study aqueous PMN formulations were developed for tape casting and its relation with the final properties of PMN films were investigated. The slurries were prepared using poly(acrylic acid)-based comb polymer as the dispersant, nonionic acrylic latex as the binder and the hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose as the wetting agent. The results showed that it is possible to prepare flexible, crack-free PMN films using highly concentrated suspensions without using any plasticizer. The study gives guidelines for the aqueous tape casting of PMN and can be adapted to processing of other multi-component metal oxides.
