(2019) Saatci, Selcuk; Yasayanlar, Suleyman; Yasayanlar, Yonca; Batarlar, Baturay
Sunulan çalışmada her iki yönde birbirine dik 0,004 (D1 serisi) ve 0,002 (D2 serisi) oranında boyuna donatıiçeren 2150x2150x150 mm boyutlarında iki grup betonarme döşeme, hacimce %0, %0,5, %1 ve %1,5oranında çelik fiber katkısı içeren beton karışımlarıyla dökülmüştür. Üretilen toplam sekiz döşeme ortanoktalarından statik yük altında test edilmişlerdir. Çelik fiber katkısı olmayan numunelerde yüksek boyunadonatı oranına sahip döşeme boyuna donatısında akma gerçekleşmeden gevrek bir şekilde zımbalamagöçmesi oluşurken düşük boyuna donatı oranına sahip döşeme zımbalama gerçekleşmeden önce çok dahasünek bir davranış göstermiştir. Çelik fiber katkısı her iki boyuna donatı oranında da iki kata varan oranlardazımbalama dayanımı artışlarına sebep olmuştur. Ancak D1 serisi döşemelerde çelik fiber katkısı maksimumyer değiştirmeleri önemli ölçüde arttırırken D2 serisinde maksimum yer değiştirmelerde önemli bir farkoluşmamış, bu döşemelerin yer değiştirmesi boyuna donatının akması tarafından kontrol edilmiştir. Çelikfiber katkısı oranının arttırılması D1 serisi döşemelerde dayanımın ve maksimum yer değiştirmelerinartmasına sebep olurken, D2 serisi döşemelerde %1'in üstü çelik fiber katkı oranları davranışta önemli birfark oluşturmamıştır. Yapılan deneyler Kritik Kesme Çatlağı Teorisi kullanılarak analitik olarakmodellenmiş ve bu tip modelleme ile ilgili bazı iyileştirmeler önerilmiştir.

Non-Linear Regional Income Divergence and Policies: Turkey Case
(Hellenic Association of Regional Scientists, 2015) Duran,H.E.
The literature on economic convergence is strongly influenced by Neo-Classical Growth model. It describes a monotone saddle path along which each economy converges towards a unique steady state. Commonly employed method in convergence analysis is the linear cross-sectional regressions which links the annual growth rate of regions to their initial income level. Ignoring the non-linearities is important from a policy perspective that implications obtained from a linear regression can be very different to the policies learned from a nonlinear case. Aim of the present study is to analyze regional income convergence in Turkey by using nonparametric convergence regressions. We implement our study for 67 provinces and a period 1975-2000. We find that the relationship between initial income and growth takes a inverted-U shape which means that the very low-income and high-income group of provinces experince a slow growth pattern compared to middle-income group. This has several implications for regional economic policies. First, middle-income provinces are able to stimulate their economies and fulfill their potential for convergence by market forces. Second, however, the very low-income provinces need a substantial help and assistance. It, therefore, becomes a natural necessity to direct policy instruments such as subsidies, direct and indirect income transfers, tax exemptions and other resources to these areas. In this way, nonparametric estimations provide a very useful guide to the way how the resources should be allocated across provinces. © 2015 Hellenic Association of Regional Scientists. Apoptotic Effects of Resveratrol, a Grape Polyphenol, Onimatinib-Sensitive and Resistant K562 Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Cells
    (2012) Can,G.; Cakir,Z.; Kartal,M.; Gunduz,U.; Baran,Y.
Aim: To examine the antiproliferative and apoptotic effects of resveratrol on imatinib-sensitive and imatinib-resistant K562 chronic myeloid leukemia cells. Materials and Methods: Antiproliferative effects of resveratrol were determined by the 3-Bis[2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulphophenyl]-2H-tetrazolium-5- carboxanilide inner salt (XTT) cell proliferation assay. Apoptotic effects of resveratrol on sensitive K562 and resistant K562/IMA-3 cells were determined through changes in caspase-3 activity, loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and apoptosis by annexin V-(FITC). Results: The concentrations of resveratrol that inhibited cell growth by 50% ( IC50) were calculated as 85 and 122 μM for K562 and K562/IMA-3 cells, respectively. There were 1.91-, 7.42- and 14.73-fold increases in loss of MMP in K562 cells treated with 10, 50, and 100 μM resveratrol, respectively. The same concentrations of resveratrol resulted in 2.21-, 3.30- and 7.65-fold increases in loss of MMP in K562/IMA-3 cells. Caspase-3 activity increased 1.04-, 2.77- and 4.8-fold in K562 and 1.02-, 1.41- and 3.46-fold in K562/IMA- 3 cells in response to the same concentrations of resveratrol, respectively. Apoptosis was induced in 58.7%-and 43.3% of K562 and K562/IMA-3 cells, respectively, in response to 100 μM resveratrol. Conclusion: Taken together these results may suggest potential use of resveratrol in CML, as well as in patients with primary and/or acquired resistance to imatinib.

Optimum Design of Anti-Buckling Behavior of Graphite/Epoxy Laminated Composites by Differential Evolution and Simulated Annealing Method
    (MIM RESEARCH GROUP, 2019) Akçair,M.; Savran,M.; Aydın,L.; Ayakdaş,O.; Öztürk,S.; Küçükdoğan,N.
Stacking sequence design and optimization of 64 layered symmetric-balance graphite/epoxy laminated composite have been performed. The optimization problems aim to find the optimum stacking sequence maximizing the critical buckling load by single objective optimization approach. Differential Evolution (DE) and Simulated Annealing (SA) optimization algorithms are proposed to solve the problems. The effect of the aspect ratios (a/b) and in-plane biaxial compressive loading ratios (Nx/Ny) on critical buckling load are investigated. In order to see the effect of discrete increments of fiber orientation angle on critical buckling load, 1°, 5°, 15°, 30° and 45° fiber angle increments are also considered. The results show that (i) the proposed algorithms DE and SA exhibit comparable performance in terms of critical buckling load when compared Genetic algorithm (GA) and Generalized pattern search algorithm (GPSA), (ii) DE and SA find distinct stacking sequence configurations in terms of buckling load for the same laminated structure design problems. © 2019 MIM Research Group. Optimal Design of the Type Iii Hydrogen Storage Tank for Different Carbon/Epoxy Materials by Modified Differential Evolution Method
    (MIM RESEARCH GROUP, 2019) Ayakdaş,O.; Aydın,L.; Savran,M.; Küçükdoğan,N.; Öztürk,S.
In this study, the main objective is to minimize the failure index of a cylindrical laminated composite hydrogen storage tank under internal pressure. The first step is to obtain the distribution of stress components based on Classical Laminated Plate Theory (CLPT). The second is to evaluate the burst pressure of the tank according to three different first ply failure criteria and then to compare the results with the experimental and numerical ones from literature. In the final part of the study, the best possible combination of winding angles, stacking sequences and thicknesses of laminates satisfying minimum possible stress concentration will be obtained for different Carbon/Epoxy materials by Differential Evolution Method. The stress components and, the burst pressures reached according to Hashin-Rotem, Maximum Stress, and Tsai-Wu first-ply failure criteria, have been complied with experimental and numerical results in the literature for Type III pressure vessels. Manufacturable Type-III tank designs have been proposed satisfying the 35 MPa burst pressure for different Carbon/Epoxy materials. © 2019 MIM Research Group. All rights reserved.

Electrospraying of Zein for the Preparation of Micro/Nano-particles Loaded With Sarcopoterium Spinosum Extract
    (AMG Transcend Association, 2019) Süngüc,C.; Erdogan,İ.; Uslu,M.E.; Bayraktar,O.
Natural compounds that are isolated from various plant species have been the focus of folk medicine due to their bioactivities. Pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries also utilize these natural compounds with antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Harsh processing and storage conditions causing loss of their bioactivities limit their applications. Therefore, biopolymeric carrier systems are required to preserve the natural bioactive compounds stability. Sarcopoterium spinosum is used in folkloric medicine for curing diabetes, gastrointestinal illnesses, cancer and pain. In this study, both solution and process parameters for electrospraying technique were investigated to encapsulate S. spinosum extract including natural bioactive compounds in zein particles. The best results were observed in 5% (w/v) of zein concentration in 70% aqueous ethanol. 0.3 ml/hour flow rate and 14 kV applied voltage were used in order to obtain narrow size distributionorbicular and smooth particle structure. The best mixture of S. spinosum extract and zein was achieved at weight ratio of 1:5. The zein microparticles with extract showed remarkable antioxidant activity. © 2019, AMG Transcend Association. Performance Indices of Soft Computing Models To Predict the Heat Load of Buildings in Terms of Architectural Indicators
    (Yildiz Technical University, 2016) Turhan,C.; Kazanasmaz,T.; Akkurt,G.G.
This study estimates the heat load of buildings in Izmir/Turkey by three soft computing (SC) methods; Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), Fuzzy Logic (FL) and Adaptive Neuro-based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and compares their prediction indices. Obtaining knowledge about what the heat load of buildings would be in architectural design stage is necessary to forecast the building performance and take precautions against any possible failure. The best accuracy and prediction power of novel soft computing techniques would assist the practical way of this process. For this purpose, four inputs, namely, wall overall heat transfer coefficient, building area/ volume ratio, total external surface area and total window area/total external surface area ratio were employed in each model of this study. The predicted heat load is evaluated comparatively using simulation outputs. The ANN model estimated the heat load of the case apartments with a rate of 97.7% and the MAPE of 5.06%; while these ratios are 98.6% and 3.56% in Mamdani fuzzy inference systems (FL); 99.0% and 2.43% in ANFIS. When these values were compared, it was found that the ANFIS model has become the best learning technique among the others and can be applicable in building energy performance studies. © 2016. Adaptive Limited Feedback Scheme for Stream Selection Based Interference Alignment in Heterogeneous Networks
(IEEE, 2016) Beyazıt, Esra Aycan; Özbek, Berna; Le Ruyet,D.
This paper presents a stream selection based interference alignment approach with imperfect channel state information for heterogeneous networks. The proposed algorithm performs the selection of a stream sequence among a predetermined set of sequences. Those selected sequences are the ones that mostly contribute to the sum rate when performing the exhaustive search. These stream sequences form a regular structure where the first stream is associated to a pico user. The effect of imperfect channel state information on the proposed algorithm is analyzed and a bit allocation scheme is proposed by deriving an upper bound on the rate loss due to quantization. © 2016 IEEE.

Generation of a New Type of Architectural Umbrella
    (Multi-Science Publishing Co. Ltd, 2005) Korkmaz,K.
The essence of this paper is the proposal of an innovative type of architectural umbrella. The new umbrella consists of a new type of symmetric spatial one-degree of freedom platform mechanism, a flexible covering with ribs and a hollow cylindrical mast with rotational movement. The most distinctive features of the umbrella are the expansion process and the way input is applied. As for the conventional foldable umbrellas, the joints should permit certain controlled movements, which in their turn would cause the process of the open and closed configurations of the umbrella. Graphical synthesis method is used to design and develop the mechanism.
