(2019) Saatci, Selcuk; Yasayanlar, Suleyman; Yasayanlar, Yonca; Batarlar, Baturay
Sunulan çalışmada her iki yönde birbirine dik 0,004 (D1 serisi) ve 0,002 (D2 serisi) oranında boyuna donatıiçeren 2150x2150x150 mm boyutlarında iki grup betonarme döşeme, hacimce %0, %0,5, %1 ve %1,5oranında çelik fiber katkısı içeren beton karışımlarıyla dökülmüştür. Üretilen toplam sekiz döşeme ortanoktalarından statik yük altında test edilmişlerdir. Çelik fiber katkısı olmayan numunelerde yüksek boyunadonatı oranına sahip döşeme boyuna donatısında akma gerçekleşmeden gevrek bir şekilde zımbalamagöçmesi oluşurken düşük boyuna donatı oranına sahip döşeme zımbalama gerçekleşmeden önce çok dahasünek bir davranış göstermiştir. Çelik fiber katkısı her iki boyuna donatı oranında da iki kata varan oranlardazımbalama dayanımı artışlarına sebep olmuştur. Ancak D1 serisi döşemelerde çelik fiber katkısı maksimumyer değiştirmeleri önemli ölçüde arttırırken D2 serisinde maksimum yer değiştirmelerde önemli bir farkoluşmamış, bu döşemelerin yer değiştirmesi boyuna donatının akması tarafından kontrol edilmiştir. Çelikfiber katkısı oranının arttırılması D1 serisi döşemelerde dayanımın ve maksimum yer değiştirmelerinartmasına sebep olurken, D2 serisi döşemelerde %1'in üstü çelik fiber katkı oranları davranışta önemli birfark oluşturmamıştır. Yapılan deneyler Kritik Kesme Çatlağı Teorisi kullanılarak analitik olarakmodellenmiş ve bu tip modelleme ile ilgili bazı iyileştirmeler önerilmiştir.

Anomalous Crustal Structure Beneath the Örenli-Eğiller Depression Zone, Inferred From Magnetotelluric Studies, Western Anatolia, Türkiye
(TÜBİTAK - Türkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Araştırma Kurumu, 2024) Chandrasekharam, Dornadula; Raju, K.; Subba Rao, P.B.V.; Baba, Alper
In Türkiye, the prevalence of high radiogenic granites makes them ideal locations for initiating enhanced geothermal system (EGS) projects. One such occurrence of these granites is observed in the Kozak area of the Bergama region. To assess the energy potential of this site, a magnetotelluric (MT) survey was conducted, focusing on determining the depth distribution of the intrusive granite. The survey employed dimensionality analysis, utilizing Bahr skew and phase tensor analyses that denote a 2D subsurface nature up to 100 s and beyond that a 3D nature. In the present study, we interpreted MT data up to 100 s. The data collected, including rotated impedance tensors and tippers, were inverted using a nonlinear conjugate gradient algorithm integrated into the MT interpretation software of the WinG Link 2D inversion data modeling package. Multiple homogeneous half-space initial models were tested during the 2D inversion process. The findings indicate the existence of a midcrustal conductor associated with graphites and iron sulfides in the source region. This conductivity may be attributed to processes such as exsolution of metamorphic fluids, influx of mantle sources, or the entry of magmatic fluids through transcrustal fault zones. The findings indicate that the intrusive granite was emplaced along a NE–SW major fault, penetrating shallow crustal levels. The depth of this granite intrusion is determined to be 15 km, covering an outcrop area of 60 km². This detailed geological information allows a comprehensive assessment of the power-generating capacity of the intrusive granite. The results of this investigation contribute valuable insights for the development and optimization of Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) projects in the region. © 2024, TUBITAK. All rights reserved.

Β-Ketoenamine-linked covalent organic framework for efficient iodine capture
(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2024) Büyükçakır, Onur
Exploring the materials that effectively capture radioactive iodine is crucial in managing nuclear waste produced from nuclear power plants. In this study, a β-ketoenamine-linked covalent organic framework (bCOF) is reported as an effective adsorbent to capture iodine from both vapor and solution. The bCOF’s high porosity and heteroatom-rich skeleton offer notable iodine vapor uptake capacity of up to 2.51g $g^{–1}$ at 75 °C under ambient pressure. Furthermore, after five consecutive adsorption-desorption cycles, the bCOF demonstrates high reusability performance with significant iodine vapor capacity retention. The adsorption mechanism was also investigated using various ex situ structural characterization techniques, and these mechanistic studies revealed the existence of a strong chemical interaction between the bCOF and iodine. The bCOF also showed good iodine uptake performance of up to 512 mg $g^{–1}$ in cyclohexane with high removal efficiencies. The bCOF’s performance in adsorbing iodine from both vapor and solution makes it a promising material to be used as an effective adsorbent in capturing radioactive iodine emissions from nuclear power plants.

Zinc Borate Chemical Garden and Zinc Borate Powders From Tincal Mineral and Zinc Sulfate Heptahydrate
(Turkish Energy Nuclear and Mining Research Institute, 2021) Gönen, Mehmet; Alp, Fatma Burcu; Savrık, Sevdiye; Balkose, Devrim
The formation of the first membrane, the swelling of the crystal by incoming water from the semipermeable membrane and the formation of irregular shaped branches were observed by optical microscopy, when zinc sulfate heptahydrate crystals were immersed in saturated borax solution. The powders obtained by mixing dilute aqueous borax and zinc sulfate solutions had B, O, Na, S and Zn elements. Presence of $Na Zn_{1/2}B_4O_7.xH_2O$ was indicated by EDX analysis. The molar ratio of $B_2O_3/ZnO$ in powders was around 2. FTIR analysis indicated the ratio of absorbance values of asymmetric stretching vibrations of B(3)-O at 1351 cm-1 to that of B(4)-O at 1026 cm-1 increased with their heating time at 90ºC during their preparation. X-ray diffraction patterns indicated the presence of $Zn(OH)_2and Zn_4(OH)_6(SO_4)·4H_2O$. The zinc borate compounds in the powders were not crystalline since no sharp peaks related to zinc borates were present in x-ray diffraction diagram. There were two mass loss steps in TG curves of the powders. The first step at 150-350ºC and the second step at 700-950ºC were due to elimination of water and due to decomposition of sulfate ions respectively. The submicron powders were a mixture of zinc borate, $Zn(OH)_2, Zn_4(OH)_6(SO_4)·4H_2O and Na Zn_{1/2}B_4O_7.xH_2O$ and they could be used as lubricant additive due to their small particle size of 600 nm.

Enrichment of Turkish Question Answering Systems Using Knowledge Graphs
(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2024) Ciftci, Okan; Soygazi, Fatih; Tekir, Selma
Recent capabilities of large language models (LLMs) have transformed many tasks in Natural Language Processing (NLP), including question answering. The state-of-the-art systems do an excellent job of responding in a relevant, persuasive way but cannot guarantee factuality. Knowledge graphs, representing facts as triplets, can be valuable for avoiding errors and inconsistencies with real-world facts. This work introduces a knowledge graph-based approach to Turkish question answering. The proposed approach aims to develop a methodology capable of drawing inferences from a knowledge graph to answer complex multihop questions. We construct the Beyazperde Movie Knowledge Graph (BPMovieKG) and the Turkish Movie Question Answering dataset (TRMQA) to answer questions in the movie domain. We evaluate our proposed question answering pipeline against a baseline study. Furthermore, we compare it with a question answering system built upon GPT-3.5 Turbo to answer the 1-hop questions from TRMQA. The experimental results confirm that link prediction on a knowledge graph is quite effective in answering questions that require reasoning paths. Finally, we provide insights into the pros and cons of the provided solution through a qualitative study.

Stochastic 1-D Reactive Transport Simulations To Assess Silica and Carbonate Phases During the $co_2$ Reinjection Process in Metasediments
(TÜBİTAK - Türkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Araştırma Kurumu, 2024) Erol, Selçuk
One proposed method to mitigate carbon emission is to mineralize the $CO_2$ in deep geothermal reservoirs while mixing the coproduced CO2 with the effluent fluid for reinjection. The injection fluid temperature fluctuates due to the mixing process between CO2-charged water and the effluent fluid, and compressor interruptions change the thermodynamic conditions that influence the fluid- rock interaction in the reservoir. Mineral dissolution or precipitations are associated with changes in permeability and porosity that affect the flow and, eventually, the lifespan of the reservoir. A combined stochastic–reactive transport simulation approach is useful for inspection purposes. Moreover, the stochastic algorithm validates the deterministic reactive transport simulation and demonstrates the time evolution of a chemically reacting system in the reservoir. This study examines a range of injection temperatures between 80 °C and 120 °C to evaluate silica and calcite precipitation along a flow path. One-dimensional (1-D) reactive transport and compartment- based stochastic reaction-diffusion-advection Gillespie algorithms are carried out. The 1-D model represents a reservoir feed zone of around 2300 m. Two common metasediment rock types are evaluated for inspection. The first one is the muscovite schist, which has approximately 60% quartz, and the second is the quartz schist, consisting of roughly 90% quartz. The stochastic method can be applied more effectively if the chemical system is completely defined with proper reaction rates as a function of temperature. The mixing ratio of the coproduced $CO_2$ over the effluent fluid is around 0.0028. Simulation results show that $CO_2$ is partially sequestrated as calcite within the first 10 m of the entrance to the reservoir and plugs the pores completely in the muscovite schist scenario. Chalcedony and α-cristobalite precipitate as secondary minerals evenly along the flow path. $CO_2$ injection into a quartz schist layer is more appropriate for geochemical interactions below 120 °C.

Integration of Daylight Use and Analysis in Double Skin Facades: a Literature Review
(Gazi Universitesi, 2024) Kazanasmaz, Tugce; Ünlütürk, Mustafa Serhan
Double skin facades (DSF) aim to save energy reducing the heat losses in buildings. They are visually appeal while allowing to use daylight efficiently. Such facade systems can reduce glare and distribute daylight evenly in the interior when compared to conventional facade systems. That is a result of cavities between two glass facades and locating sun shading elements in them, although this system provides a high level of transparency. As their primary purpose of application is to ensure thermal performance and ventilation, most studies in literature have focused on these. This study started with the hypothesis that studies examining daylight performance in DSFs are more limited than studies examining thermal performance and that daylight optimization methods are not used sufficiently in DSFs. In this context, the study aims to analyze studies focusing on daylight performance of DSFs. The review targets results of such current studies to guide future ones providing feedback knowledge. This may help to better technical developments in such facades and make them prevail in constructions or in retrofitting So, it contributes to literature in this sense. Recent studies are shown in tabulated form and interpreted in detail with graphics. considering their methodologies, daylight parameters and findings. Results show that the daylight parameter is one of the most important issues that architects or designers should consider from the moment they start the design, and they should make their designs based on the optimum penetration of daylight into the building. Consequently, this review presents that the use of daylight optimization has started to be used in recent studies dealing with DSFs. A DSF design can optimally get daylight into the interior can be made by using this method more frequently.

Expression Patterns of M6a Rna Methylation Regulators Under Apoptotic Conditions in Various Human Cancer Cell Lines
(TUBITAK, 2024) Alasar, Azime Akçaöz; Sağlam, Buket; Vatansever, İpek Erdoğan; Akgül, Bünyamin
Background/aim: Cancer is a complex disease that involves both genetic and epigenetic factors. While emerging evidence clearly suggests that changes in epitranscriptomics play a crucial role in cancer pathogenesis, a comprehensive understanding of the writers, erasers, and readers of epitranscriptomic processes, particularly under apoptotic conditions remains lacking. The aim of this study was to uncover the changes in the expression of m6A RNA modifiers under apoptotic conditions across various cancer cell lines. Materials and methods: Initially, we quantified the abundance of m6A RNA modifiers in cervical (HeLa and ME180), breast (MCF7 and MDA-MB-231), lung (A549 and H1299), and colon (Caco-2 and HCT116) cancer cell lines using qPCR. Subsequently, we induced apoptosis using cisplatin and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) to activate intrinsic and extrinsic pathways, respectively, and assessed apoptosis rates via flow cytometry. Further, we examined the transcript abundance of m6A RNA modifiers under apoptotic conditions in cervical, breast, and lung cancer cell lines using qPCR. Results: Overall, treatment with cisplatin increased the abundance of m 6A modifiers, whereas TNF-α treatment decreased their expression in cervical, breast, and lung cancer cell lines. Specifically, cisplatin-induced apoptosis, but not TNF-α-mediated apoptosis, resulted in decreased abundance of METTL14 and FTO transcripts. Additionally, cisplatin treatment drastically reduced the abundance of IGF2BP2 and IGF2BP3 readers. Conclusion: These results suggest that the differential response of cancer cells to apoptotic inducers may be partially attributed to the expression of m6A RNA modifiers.
