Letter Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Evaluating Ethanol Concentrations Against Staphylococcus Spp: a Proposal for Improving Nosocomial Bacteria Control(Elsevier, 2024) Soyer, Ferda; Özdemir, Özgün Öykü; Polat, Bengi; Ekenel, Nil HazalDear Editor, Nosocomial infections originating from commonly encountered pathogenic bacteria, notably Staphylococcus species, persist as a prominent global public health issue. This phenomenon exerts consequential impacts on both the well-being of patients and the healthcare personnel within hospital environments. Hospital-acquired infections from common bacteria like Staphylococcus remain a global public health concern. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control reports prevalence rates of 4.5% in the USA and 7.1% in Europe [1]. An estimated 8.9 million healthcare-associated infections occur annually in European hospitals and long-term care facilities [1]. According to the World Health Organization, although 10% of patients get healthcare-associated infections, at least a 30% reduction can be achieved through adequate infection prevention and control [2]. The efficacy of disinfection methodologies employed in healthcare institutions assumes critical significance in mitigating this threat.Letter Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2C-Met Activation Promotes Extravasation of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells Into 3d-Cultured Hepatocyte Cells in Lab-On Device(Elsevier, 2023) Solmaz, Gülhas; Bağcı, Gülsün; Çömez, Dehan; Topel, Hande; Yılmaz, Yeliz; Bağırsakçı, Ezgi; Güneş, Aysim; Batı Ayaz, Gizem; Tahmaz, İsmail; Bilgen, Müge; Pesen Okvur, DevrimActivation of c-Met signaling is associated with an aggressive phenotype and poor prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, its contribution to organ preference in metastasis remains unclear. In this study, using a Lab on a Chip device, we defined the role of aberrant c-Met activation in regulating the extravasation and homing capacity of HCC cells. Our studies showed that (i) c-Met overexpression and activation direct HCC cells preferentially towards the hepatocytes-enriched microenvironment, and (ii) blockage of c-Met phosphorylation by a small molecule inhibitor attenuated extravasation and homing capacity of HCC cells. These results, thus, demonstrate the role of c-Met signaling in regulating the colonization of HCC cells preferentially in the liver. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.Letter Reply To the Discussion on “the Modified Vlasov Model on a Nonhomogeneous and Nonlinear Soil Layer”(Elsevier, 2023) İşbuğa, Volkan; Çerezci, Mehmet; Aşık, A. ZülfüThe discussion suggests that the paper has left out four references (Haldar and Basu, 2013; Haldar and Basu, 2016; Elhuni and Basu, 2019; Elhuni and Basu, 2021), and the research work in the paper is not new. The authors would like to state that the literature review in the paper was kept as vast as and to stay as close as possible to the model given in the paper, which is a gross model. The study aimed to offer a method using a previously developed formulation for accounting for soil nonlinearity (Vallabhan and Das, 1988,1991a,1991b). The primary concentration in the literature was given to the most relevant works on the modified Vlasov model that employs the same concept for the solution method and algorithm, which lays the foundation of the paper (Vallabhan and Das 1988,1991a,1991b; Asik, 1999; Asik and Vallabhan,2001). On the other hand, as clearly indicated in the study, the literature in the field is extensive, including the works suggested by the discussion. Despite the author’s efforts, it was not possible to review or/ and mention all the works previously conducted to solve the problem with different approaches. In this respect, the previous studies by Haldar and Basu (2013) and Elhuni and Basu (2019) mentioned in the discussion are not directly related to the problem considered in the paper. Haldar and Basu (2016) proposed a framework incorporating the finite difference and the finite element methods.Letter Citation - Scopus: 3Reply: the Effect of Primary Surgery in Patients With Stage Iv Breast Cancer With Bone Metastasis Only (protocol Bomet Mf 14-01): a Multi-Center, Registry Study(Springer, 2021) Soran, Atilla; Sezgin, Efe; Özbaş, Serdar; Doğan, LütfiDear Editor, We’d like to thank Drs. Ishizuka and Horimoto for their letter to the editor. We’re glad to see their interest to our prospective study. Regarding their recommendation that univariate Kaplan–Meier analysis does not eliminate confounding factors, such as age, tumor size, number of bone metastasis, etc., we employed propensity score methods for the results, including Fig. 1.Letter Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Correspondence To "Locoregional Therapy in De Novo Metastatic Breast Cancer: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis, Written by Reinhorn D Et Al. in the Breast Journal 58 (2021) 173-181(Churchill Livingstone, 2021) Soran, Atilla; Ozbas, Serdar; Dogan, Lut; Isik, Arda; Sezgin, EfeLetter Citation - Scopus: 9A Call for Benchmark Data in Mass Spectrometry-Based Proteomics(Proteomass Scientific Society, 2012) Allmer, JensProteomics is a quickly developing field. New and better mass spectrometers, the platform of choice in proteomics, are being introduced frequently. New algorithms for the analysis of mass spectrometric data and assignment of amino acid sequence to tandem mass spectra are also presented on a frequent basis. Unfortunately, the best application area for these algorithms cannot be established at the moment. Furthermore, even the accuracy of the algorithms and their relative performance cannot be established. This is due to the lack of proper benchmark data. This letter first introduces the field of mass spectrometry-based proteomics and then defines the expectations of a well-designed benchmark dataset. Thereafter, the current situation is compared to this ideal. A call for the creation of a proper benchmark dataset is then placed and it is explained how measurement should be performed. Finally, the benefits for the research community are highlighted. © 2012, Proteomass Scientific Society. The sign of the Nusselt number is important for deciding on heat transfer direction at a solid wall. The change of the Nusselt number signmay be interpreted as the change of the direction of the heat transfer at a wall. There are studies, such as internal heat and fluid flow in a channel with viscous dissipation (Hung and Tso 2008, 2009; Mitrovic and Maletic 2007; Mobedi et al. 2010) or with an asymmetric heat flux boundary conditions (Cekmer et al. 2011) in which the sign of the wall Nusselt number changes. Nield and Kuznetsov (2008) studied in a very interesting paper the counter flow in a channel whose boundaries are asymmetrically heated and is consisted of two porous layers with different permeability values. These authors showed that even the sign of an overall Nusselt number defined based on the average wall temperatures and heat fluxes, and the mean permeability values of the two porous layers can also be changed and it can take negative values when a strong asymmetry heat flux is imposed to the boundaries. The change of Nusselt number sign at the walls are also observed in other studies of Kuznetsov (Kuznetsov and Nield 2010; Xiong and Kuznetsov 2000).Letter On a Flexible Window Function for Spectral Analysis(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2011) Altinkaya, M.A.Letter Rebuttal: Response To Regarding Letter To Editor "on the Modeling of Inactivation Kinetics by Uv Irradiation"(Elsevier Ltd., 2010) Ünlütürk, SevcanDr. Buzrul has commented on the mathematical modeling part of the article of Unluturk et al. (2010) which has recently been published online in the International Journal of Food Microbiology. He criticised the parameters k, β and h obtained from Log linear model, Weibull and Hom models, respectively.
