A Comprehensive Characterization of the Effect of Spatter Powder on In939 Parts Fabricated by Laser Powder Bed Fusion
(ELSEVIER SCI LTD, 2023) Dogu, Merve Nur; Mussatto, Andre; Yalçın, Mustafa Alp; Özer, Seren; Davut, Kemal; Obeidi, Muhannad Ahmed; Kumar, Ajay
This study is focused on a comprehensive characterization of virgin and spatter IN939 powders and the effects of a certain amount of spatter powder on the part quality of IN939 fabricated by the L-PBF process. A brown tint coloration formed Al2O3 oxide, pores, a 124.4% increase in the average particle size, a 10.2% decrease in the powder circularity, and a 7.5% decrease in the powder aspect ratio were observed in the spatter powder. Additionally, higher average grain size and lower nanohardness were obtained for the spatter powder. In order to understand the effect of a certain amount of spatter powder on the part quality, 10 wt% spatter powder was mixed with the virgin powder. This addition was found to decrease the flowability of the powder. Moreover, this addition decreased relative density by around 0.3% and increased surface roughness by around 80.8% in the fabricated samples (termed as V and SV). On the other hand, there was no considerable microstructural, texture, microhardness, and nanohardness difference between V and SV samples, although the spatter powder addition caused a 30.2% increase in the average grain size of SV. The overall texture for both V and SV samples exhibit (00 1)//BD.

Effect of the Combination of Organic Acid Solutions on Tinplate Corrosion
(Elsevier, 2022) Yıldırım, Koray; Kızılkaya, Ali Can
Tinplate corrosion as a result of canned food is typically tested in industry by tinplate in synthetic media based on single organic acids. However, the combination of organic acids, which is present in applied conditions, is not previously investigated in terms of its effect on tinplate corrosion mechanism. In this manuscript, we combine structural characterization of tinplate surfaces with electrochemical measurements, to investigate the corrosion mechanism of tinplate under acetic acid-NaCl, citric acid-NaCl, and a combined acetic acid, citric acid and NaCl media. The results show that the combined acid media causes does not result in a pronounced formation of a protective passivation layer, in contrast to the single acid based media. Our findings demonstrate the combined effects of the organic acids in corrosive media has to be taken into account for tinplate corrosion, as they can alter the corrosion mechanism. Furthermore, we show that combination of organic acids can accelerate tinplate corrosion testing in packaging industry. Thus, our findings can contribute to the design of new aging media for tinplate corrosion testing.

The Integrating Role of Regional Spatial Planning: Five Mechanisms of Policy Integration
(Liverpool University Press, 2022) Bafarasat, Abbas Ziafati; Baker, Mark; Growe, Anna
Policy integration is considered an essential condition for constructing a more sustainable society, but proponents of sustainable development differ in their views about what is to be integrated, what is to be developed, how to link environment and development, and for how long a time. Regional spatial planning has been a locus of attempts to resolve these differences and realise policy integration, but its mechanisms to achieve this remain less explored. This study sets out to meet three objectives as follows: (1) to identify, through a systematic literature review, a broad set of mechanisms by which (regional) spatial planning realises joined-up policy making; (2) to illustrate the identified mechanisms in two distinct spatial planning systems, Germany and England; and (3) to generate insights into factors that contribute to, and confine, the identified mechanisms. The findings identify five integrating mechanisms of spatial planning that could inform plan making, analysis and monitoring and provide lessons about the potential and constraints of these mechanisms in different social, institutional and political contexts.
