Search for Long-Lived Particles Decaying in the Cms End Cap Muon Detectors in Proton-Proton Collisions at Root S=13 Tev
(American Physical Society, 2021) Karapınar, Güler; Karapınar, Güler; CMS Collaboration; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
A search for long-lived particles (LLPs) produced in decays of standard model (SM) Higgs bosons is presented. The data sample consists of 137 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV, recorded at the LHC in 2016-2018. A novel technique is employed to reconstruct decays of LLPs in the end cap muon detectors. The search is sensitive to a broad range of LLP decay modes and to masses as low as a few GeV. No excess of events above the SM background is observed. The most stringent limits to date on the branching fraction of the Higgs boson to LLPs subsequently decaying to quarks and tau(+)tau(-) are found for proper decay lengths greater than 6, 20, and 40 m, for LLP masses of 7, 15, and 40 GeV, respectively.

Search for R -Parity Violating Supersymmetry With Displaced Vertices in Proton-Proton Collisions at Sqrt(s) = 8 Tev
(American Physical Society, 2017) CMS Collaboration; Karapınar, Güler; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
Results are reported from a search for R-parity violating supersymmetry in proton-proton collision events collected by the CMS experiment at a center-of-mass energy of s=8 TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 17.6 fb-1. This search assumes a minimal flavor violating model in which the lightest supersymmetric particle is a long-lived neutralino or gluino, leading to a signal with jets emanating from displaced vertices. In a sample of events with two displaced vertices, no excess yield above the expectation from standard model processes is observed, and limits are placed on the pair production cross section as a function of mass and lifetime of the neutralino or gluino. At 95% confidence level, the analysis excludes cross sections above approximately 1 fb for neutralinos or gluinos with mass between 400 and 1500 GeV and mean proper decay length between 1 and 30 mm. Gluino masses are excluded below 1 and 1.3 TeV for mean proper decay lengths of 300 μm and 1 mm, respectively, and below 1.4 TeV for the range 2-30 mm. The results are also applicable to other models in which long-lived particles decay into multijet final states.

Search for Supersymmetry in Events With B-Quark Jets and Missing Transverse Energy in Pp Collisions at 7 Tev
(American Physical Society, 2012) Karapınar, Güler; Karapınar, Güler; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
Results are presented from a search for physics beyond the standard model based on events with large missing transverse energy, at least three jets, and at least one, two, or three b-quark jets. The study is performed using a sample of proton-proton collision data collected at √s=7TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2011. The integrated luminosity of the sample is 4.98fb -1. The observed number of events is found to be consistent with the standard model expectation, which is evaluated using control samples in the data. The results are used to constrain cross sections for the production of supersymmetric particles decaying to b-quark-enriched final states in the context of simplified model spectra. © 2012 CERN. Search for New Physics in the Multijet and Missing Transverse Momentum Final State in Proton-Proton Collisions at ?s=7tev
(American Physical Society, 2012) CMS Collaboration; Karapınar, Güler; Karapınar, Güler; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
A search for physics beyond the standard model is performed in events with at least three jets and large missing transverse momentum produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of √s=7TeV. No significant excess of events above the expected backgrounds is observed in 4.98fb -1 of data collected with the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The results are presented in the context of the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model and more generically for simplified models. For the simplified models of gluino-gluino and squark-squark production, gluino masses below 1.0 TeV and squark masses below 0.76 TeV are excluded in case the lightest supersymmetric particle mass is below 200 GeV. These results significantly extend previous searches. © 2012 CERN. Published by the American Physical Society under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License.

Search for Supersymmetry in Pp Collisions at ?s=7tev in Events With Two Photons and Missing Transverse Energy
(American Physical Society, 2011) Karapınar, Güler; Demir, Durmuş Ali; Karapınar, Güler; 04.05. Department of Pyhsics; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology; 04. Faculty of Science
A search for supersymmetry in the context of general gauge-mediated breaking with the lightest neutralino as the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle and the gravitino as the lightest is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 36pb-1 recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The search is performed by using events containing two or more isolated photons, at least one hadronic jet, and significant missing transverse energy. No excess of events at high missing transverse energy is observed. Upper limits on the signal cross section for general gauge-mediated supersymmetry between 0.3 and 1.1 pb at the 95% confidence level are determined for a range of squark, gluino, and neutralino masses, excluding supersymmetry parameter space that was inaccessible to previous experiments. © 2011 American Physical Society.

Phenomenological Issues in Supersymmetry With Nonholomorphic Soft Breaking
(American Physical Society, 2005) Çakır, Muammer Altan; Mutlu, Sevdiye; Solmaz, Levent; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
We present a through discussion of motivations for and phenomenological issues in supersymmetric models with minimal matter content and nonholomorphic soft-breaking terms. Using the unification of the gauge couplings and assuming SUSY is broken with nonstandard soft terms, we provide semianalytic solutions of the RGEs for low and high choices of tan β which can be used to study the phenomenology in detail. We also present a generic form of RGIs in mSUGRA framework which can be used to derive new relations in addition to those existing in the literature. Our results are mostly presented with respect to the conventional minimal supersymmetric model for ease of comparison.
