    Electrocaloric Ceramics
    (Elsevier, 2023) Alkoy, S.; Okatan, M.B.; Mısırlıoğlu, I.B.; Menşur-Alkoy, E.
Electrocaloric effect (ECE) is a coupling between thermal and electrical phenomena, specifically it is the change in the entropy of a dielectric material as a result of an electrical stimulus. Electrocaloric materials are currently being investigated as a solid state refrigeration approach for on-chip cooling applications. Among the organic and inorganic electrocaloric material choices, electrocaloric ceramics are at the forefront with their higher electrocaloric coefficients. This article gives a background on the fundamentals of electrocalorics and then discusses the general trends in the literature on the electrocaloric ceramics research. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. Application of Work Function Measurements in the Study of Surface Catalyzed Reactions on Rh(1 0 0)
    (Taylor & Francis, 2018) Çağlar, Başar; Kızılkaya, Ali Can; Niemantsverdriet, J. W. (Hans); Weststrated, C. J. (Kees-Jan)
The present article aims to show how work function measurements (WF) can be applied in the study of elementary surface reaction steps on metallic single crystal surfaces. The work function itself can in many cases not be interpreted directly, as it lacks direct information on structural and chemical nature of the surface and adsorbates, but it can be a powerful tool when used together with other surface science techniques which provide information on the chemical nature of the adsorbed species. We here, illustrate the usefulness of work function measurements using Rh(100) as our model catalyst. The examples presented include work function measurements during adsorption, surface reaction, and desorption of a variety of molecules relevant for heterogeneous catalysis. Surface coverage of adsorbates, isosteric heat of adsorption, and kinetic parameters for desorption, desorption/decomposition temperatures of surface species, different reaction regimes were determined by WF with the aid of other surface science techniques.

Growth and Characterization of Cdte Absorbers on Gaas by Mbe for High Concentration Pv Solar Cells
(John Wiley and Sons Inc., 2015) Arı, Ozan; Polat, Mustafa; Karakaya, Merve; Selamet, Yusuf
CdTe based II-VI absorbers are promising candidates for high concentration PV solar cells with an ideal band gap for AM1.5 solar radiation. In this study, we propose single crystal CdTe absorbers grown on GaAs substrates with a molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) which is a clean deposition technology. We show that high quality CdTe absorber layers can be grown with full width half maximum of X-ray diffraction rocking curves (XRD RC) as low as 227 arc-seconds with 0.5% thickness uniformity that a 2 μm layer is capable of absorbing 99% of AM1.5 solar radiation. Bandgap of the CdTe absorber is found as 1.483 eV from spetroscopic ellipsometry (SE) measurements. Also, high absorption coefficient is calculated from the results, which is ∼5 x 105cm-1 in solar radiation spectrum.
