Compact Multilayer Thin-Film Color Filters and Direct Integration on White-Light Diodes for Color Conversion
(Optical Society of America, 2021) Yiğen, Serap; Ekmekçioğlu, Merve; Özdemir, Mehtap; Aygün, Gülnur; Özyüzer, Lütfi
We present highly efficient green, yellow, and red filters based on a metal-dielectric structure. The filters encompass only five layers of alternating zinc tin oxide and silver thin films that are grown on soda lime glass and white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) using direct current magnetron sputtering at room temperature. The designed filters provide efficient color filtering in the visible spectrum. High purity colored light is obtained by direct application of filters on LEDs as color converters. The presented method offers an easy way for realizing different colors by tuning the thicknesses of layers in the structure. (C) 2021 Optical Society of America

Experimental and Density Functional Theory Study on Humidity Sensing Properties of Copper Phthalocyanine (cupc)
(IOP Publishing, 2019) Farzaneh, Amir; Esrafili, Mehdi D.; Okur, Salih
The quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) technique was applied to investigate humidity sensing properties of a copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) thin film prepared by drop cast method. The humidity adsorption and desorption kinetics of (CuPc) thin film was evaluated. The QCM and electrical measurements results showed that humidity sensing properties of CuPc is very sensitive to humidity changes and reversible adsorption/desorption performance which is an indicative of a good humidity sensor even at room temperature. Reproducible experimental results indicated that CuPc thin films have an abundant potential for humidity sensing applications at ambient temperature. According to the first-principle density functional theory calculations, the promising humidity sensing properties of CuPc can be attributed to the considerable charge transfer from the water molecule into Cu atom.

Influence of Sulfurization Temperature on Cu2znsns4 Absorber Layer on Flexible Titanium Substrates for Thin Film Solar Cells
(IOP Publishing Ltd., 2018) Buldu, Dilara Gökçen; Cantaş, Ayten; Türkoğlu, Fulya; Akça, Fatime Gülşah; Meriç, Ece; Özdemir, Mehtap; Tarhan, Enver; Özyüzer, Lütfi; Aygün, Gülnur
In this study, the effect of sulfurization temperature on the morphology, composition and structure of Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin films grown on titanium (Ti) substrates has been investigated. Since Ti foils are flexible, they were preferred as a substrate. As a result of their flexibility, they allow large area manufacturing and roll-to-roll processes. To understand the effects of sulfurization temperature on the CZTS formation on Ti foils, CZTS films fabricated with various sulfurization temperatures were investigated with several analyses including x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman scattering. XRD measurements showed a sharp and intense peak coming from the (112) planes of the kesterite type lattice structure (KS), which is strong evidence for good crystallinity. The surface morphologies of our thin films were investigated using SEM. Electron dispersive spectroscopy was also used for the compositional analysis of the thin films. According to these analysis, it is observed that Ti foils were suitable as substrates for the growth of CZTS thin films with desired properties and the sulfurization temperature plays a crucial role for producing good quality CZTS thin films on Ti foil substrates.

The Effect of Thickness of Silver Thin Film on Structural and Optical Properties of Porous Silicon
(World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte Ltd, 2017) Çetinel, A.; Özdoğan, M.; Utlu, G.; Artunç, N.; Şahin, G.; Tarhan, Enver
In this study, porous silicon (PS) samples were prepared on n-type silicon (100) wafers by electrochemical etching method, varying the current density from 20 to 100mA/cm2 and keeping constant HF concentration (10%) and etching time of 15min. Then, Ag thin films, which have 10, 50 and 100nm film thicknesses, were deposited on PS layers by using thermal evaporation to investigate the influence of Ag film thickness on structural and optical properties of PS. The structural and optical properties of PS and Ag deposited PS layers have been investigated by XRD, FE-SEM, Raman and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. FE-SEM XRD and Raman analyzes indicate that average pore size and porosity of PS layers increase with the increasing current density. Further, Ag nanoparticles have embedded in pore channel. PL measurement reveals that higher porosity of PS would be better to form the Ag-PS nano-composite material leading to stronger PL band. The PL spectra of PS and Ag-PS samples indicate that PL bands show blue shift with increasing current density and film thickness. Consequently, it has been found that the structural and optical properties of PS depend on current density and Ag film thickness individually.

Particulate Sol Route Hydroxyapatite Thin Film-Silk Protein Interface Interactions
(Gazi Üniversitesi, 2010) Özcan, Selçuk; Çiftçioğlu, Muhsin
Hydroxyapatite (HAp) thin film coatings were prepared on bioinert glass slides by a particulate sol method and the effects of intermediate silk fibroin and silk sericin coatings on the HAp film formation and surface topography were examined. The films prepared with smaller crushed particle sols had a higher agglomeration tendency during the drying consolidation step of the thin film formation, and contained agglomerates larger in number and size, which was demonstrated experimentally and in accordance with the DLVO theory. In the thin films prepared on intermediate sericin and fibroin films the number and size of agglomerates were decisively reduced, forming homogeneous films of predominantly primary particles, especially for the larger particle size sols. The regular surface electrostatic potential arrangements of the β-sheet structures of the sericin and fibroin, and of hydroxyapatite crystals, gave rise to the coulombic attraction driven surface energy minimization, enhancing the hydroxyapatite thin film formation process. The positive degree of cooperativity in the hydroxyapatite particle deposition on the silk protein coatings was disrupted by the particle agglomeration tendency.

The Superconducting Transition Width and Illumination Wavelength Dependence of the Response of Mgo Substrate Ybco Transition Edge Bolometers
(Elsevier Ltd., 2007) Öktem, B.; Bozbey, Ali; Avcı, İlbeyi; Tepe, Mustafa; Abukay, Doğan; Fardmanesh, M.
Dependence of the phase and magnitude of the response of MgO substrate YBa2Cu3O7-δ (YBCO) transition edge bolometers to the near infrared radiation on the superconducting transition width is presented in this work. The bolometers were made of YBCO thin films of 200 nm thickness that were grown on single crystal MgO (1 0 0) substrates by DC inverted cylindrical magnetron sputtering. We have measured the responses of both large and small area devices with respect to the bias temperature and radiation modulation frequency. We have observed that the superconducting transition width has major effects on the response of the bolometers such as; on a dip of the phase of the response versus modulation frequency curve around 1 Hz, the rate of decrease of the magnitude of the response, and dependence of the phase of the response on temperature at mid-range modulation frequency. We have investigated a correlation between the superconducting transition width and the YBCO film surface morphology of the devices. In addition, the illumination wavelength dependence of the optical response of both wide and narrow transition width devices has been investigated. Here we present the analysis and the possible mechanisms that can affect the response of the bolometers at the superconducting transition region.

Effect of Deposition Conditions on Yba2cu3o 7-? Thin Films by Inverted Cylindrical Magnetron Sputtering and Substrate Effects
(Elsevier Ltd., 2004) Avcı, İlbeyi; Tepe, Mustafa; Abukay, Doğan
The dependence of YBCO thin film properties on the deposition conditions was studied for different substrates. The deposition conditions were optimized for the epitaxial growth of high quality YBCO thin films of 1500 Å thickness onto single crystal (100-oriented) SrTiO3 (STO), MgO and LaAlO3 (LAO) substrates by DC Inverted Cylindrical Magnetron Sputtering (ICMS). The samples were investigated in detail by means of X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), EDX, AFM, ρ-T, magnetic susceptibility and current-voltage (I-V) characterizations. The samples show strong diamagnetic behavior and sharp transition temperatures of 89-91 K with ΔT < 0.5 K. XRD of the samples exhibited highly c-axis orientation. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) values of the rocking curves were ranging typically from 0.22 to 0.28°. The samples have smooth surfaces as shown from AFM micrographs. The surface roughness, Ra, changed between 5-7 nm. I-V characteristics were obtained from the 20μm-wide microbridges, which were patterned by a laser writing technique. The critical current densities (Jc, 1.06 × 106 for LAO-based YBCO, 1.39 × 106 for MgO-based YBCO, 1.67 × 106A/cm2 for STO based YBCO) of the microbridges were evaluated from I-V curves at 77 K.
