Search for High-Mass Resonances Decaying To a Jet and a Lorentz-Boosted Resonance in Proton-Proton Collisions at Root S=13 Tev
    (Elsevier, 2022) Karapınar, Güler
A search is reported for high-mass hadronic resonances that decay to a parton and a Lorentz-boosted resonance, which in turn decays into a pair of partons. The search is based on data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb(-1). The boosted resonance is reconstructed as a single wide jet with substructure consistent with a two-body decay. The high-mass resonance is thus considered as a dijet system. The jet substructure information and the kinematic properties of cascade resonance decays are exploited to disentangle the signal from the large quantum chromodynamics multijet background. The dijet mass spectrum is analyzed for the presence of new high-mass resonances, and is found to be consistent with the standard model background predictions. Results are interpreted in a warped extra dimension model where the high-mass resonance is a Kaluza-Klein gluon, the boosted resonance is a radion, and the final state partons are all gluons. Limits on the production cross section are set as a function of the Kaluza-Klein gluon and radion masses. These limits exclude at 95% confidence level models with Kaluza-Klein gluon masses in the range 2.0 to 4.3 TeV and radion masses in the range 0.20 to 0.74TeV. By exploring a novel experimental signature, the observed limits on the Kaluza-Klein gluon mass are extended by up to about 1 TeV compared to previous searches. (C) 2022 The Author(s). Search for Low Mass Vector Resonances Decaying To Quark-Antiquark Pairs in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s =13 Tev
(American Physical Society, 2017) CMS Collaboration; Karapınar, Güler
A search is reported for a narrow vector resonance decaying to quark-antiquark pairs in proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.7 fb-1. The vector resonance is produced at large transverse momenta, with its decay products merged into a single jet. The resulting signature is a peak over background in the distribution of the invariant mass of the jet. The results are interpreted in the framework of a leptophobic vector resonance and no evidence is found for such particles in the mass range of 100-300 GeV. Upper limits at 95% confidence level on the production cross section are presented in a region of mass-coupling phase space previously unexplored at the LHC. The region below 140 GeV has not been explored by any previous experiments.

Search for Narrow Resonances Decaying To Dijets in Proton-Proton Collisions at ?s =13 Tev
(American Physical Society, 2016) CMS Collaboration; Karapınar, Güler
A search for narrow resonances in proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV is presented. The invariant mass distribution of the two leading jets is measured with the CMS detector using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.4 fb-1. The highest observed dijet mass is 6.1 TeV. The distribution is smooth and no evidence for resonant particles is observed. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross section for narrow resonances with masses above 1.5 TeV. When interpreted in the context of specific models, the limits exclude string resonances with masses below 7.0 TeV, scalar diquarks below 6.0 TeV, axigluons and colorons below 5.1 TeV, excited quarks below 5.0 TeV, color-octet scalars below 3.1 TeV, and W′ bosons below 2.6 TeV. These results significantly extend previously published limits.

Quantum Interference in Thermoelectric Molecular Junctions: a Toy Model Perspective
(American Institute of Physics, 2014) Nozaki, Daijiro; Avdoshenko, Stanislav M.; Sevinçli, Haldun; Cuniberti, Gianaurelio
Quantum interference (QI) phenomena between electronic states in molecular circuits offer a new opportunity to design new types of molecular devices such as molecular sensors, interferometers, and thermoelectric devices. Controlling the QI effect is a key challenge for such applications. For the development of single molecular devices employing QI effects, a systematic study of the relationship between electronic structure and the quantum interference is needed. In order to uncover the essential topological requirements for the appearance of QI effects and the relationship between the QI-affected line shape of the transmission spectra and the electronic structures, we consider a homogeneous toy model where all on-site energies are identical and model four types of molecular junctions due to their topological connectivities. We systematically analyze their transmission spectra, density of states, and thermoelectric properties. Even without the degree of freedom for on-site energies an asymmetric Fano peak could be realized in the homogeneous systems with the cyclic configuration. We also calculate the thermoelectric properties of the model systems with and without fluctuation of on-site energies. Even under the fluctuation of the on-site energies, the finite thermoelectrics are preserved for the Fano resonance, thus cyclic configuration is promising for thermoelectric applications. This result also suggests the possibility to detect the cyclic configuration in the homogeneous systems and the presence of the QI features from thermoelectric measurements.

    In Fiber Resonance Breaking Mechanism
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2010) Akın, Osman; Dinleyici, Mehmet Salih
In this work we investigate mode resonance breaking mechanism in slab waveguide accomplished by cladding index modulation according to Kerr nonlinearity. The interaction is considered to be a Four Wave Mixing Process and Coupled Mode Theory is used to analyze the effect of cladding perturbation into propagating fundamental mode.

Resonance Solitons as Black Holes in Madelung Fluid
(World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte Ltd, 2002) Pashaev, Oktay; Lee, Jyh Hao
Envelope solitons of the Nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) under quantum potential's influence are studied. Corresponding problem is found to be integrable for an arbitrary strength, s ≠ 1, of the quantum potential. For s < 1, the model is equivalent to the usual NLS with rescaled coupling constant, while for s > 1, to the reaction-diffusion system. The last one is related to the anti-de Sitter (AdS) space valued Heisenberg model, realizing a particular gauge fixing condition of the (1 + 1)-dimensional Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity. For this gravity model, by the Madelung fluid representation we derive the acoustic form of the space-time metric. The space-time points, where dispersion changes the sign, correspond to the event horizon, while the soliton solution to the AdS black hole. Moving with the above bounded velocity, it describes evolution on the one sheet hyperboloid with nontrivial winding number, and creates under collision, the resonance states which we study by the Hirota bilinear method.
