    Adoption Factors of Electronic Health Record Systems

    Today’s rapidly changing regulations, increasing healthcare costs, and most importantly globalization have made health record keeping an important issue. Electronic health record systems are rising as a crucial and unavoidable way of record keeping for healthcare. However, as other information technology implementations, electronic health records also have their own adoption processes and diffusion factors. The main goal of this study is to define a model to analyze the adoption process of electronic health record systems and to understand the diffusion factors. © 2016, Springer International Publishing Switzerland.

    Individual Adaptation Determinants and Themes for Environmental Resilience

    It is now an accepted fact that climate change is an event with increasing consequences and that we humans must do something about it. At this stage, the adaptation of individuals plays a key role. In this study, we searched for various behavioral theories and variables for our future study. With an S-question in-depth interview (7 people for sample size) and a survey of 68 actions (77 people for sample size), we investigated what subjects people tend to make changes in their daily lives. As a result, it has emerged that the tendency is to change the vehicles used in transportation. And the majority of the participants think that the partners who need to take action regarding the climate crisis are the service providers (states, NGOs, industry, and companies) rather than the consumers (individuals).

    Assessment of Human-Robot Interaction Between Householders and Robotic Vacuum Cleaners

    The study presented in this paper investigates the application of the Hybrid Model, which is the combination of the two strategies of the Built-to-Order Model and the Dynamic Eco-strategy Explorer Model, to robotic vacuum cleaners. The Hybrid Model aims to switch the market power from seller-driven perception to buyer-driven one by creating an individual perspective from the eye of users rather than traditional customer segmentation. The human-centered approach established theoretically has been tested with a determined procedure that includes prototyping, testing, and evaluating the proposed customization system for robotic vacuum cleaners to increase the interaction degree with purchasers. In this case, robotic vacuum cleaners have been chosen to implement and assess the hypothesis. Firstly, the successful prototyping of the Hybrid Model requires well customer analysis and habits determination to build well-constructed and coherent interaction between the purchaser and the robot. We utilized a content analysis of robotic vacuum cleaners and elaborative, conventional interviews with early adopters and early majority of this technology in Turkey to establish credible scenarios and product options during the phases of the Hybrid Model practice. The results of the interview were discussed, and the evaluations have been reported.

    Application of Human-Robot Interaction Features To Design and Purchase Processes of Home Robots

    Production of home robots, such as robotic vacuum cleaners, currently focuses more on the technology and its engineering than the needs of people and their interaction with robots. An observation supporting this view is that the home robots are not customizable. In other words, buyers cannot select the features and built their home robots to order. Stemmed from this observation, the paper proposes an approach that starts with a classification of features of home robots. This classification concerns robot interaction with humans and the environment, a home in our case. Following the classification, the proposed approach utilizes a new hybrid model based on a built-to-order model and dynamic eco-strategy explorer model, enabling designers to develop a production line and buyers to customize their home robots with the classified features. Finally, we applied the proposed approach to robotic vacuum cleaners. We developed a feature model for robotic vacuum cleaners, from which we formed a common uses scenario model.

    Exploring the Factors Influencing Big Data Technology Acceptance

    Big Data has received great attention in academic literature and industry papers. Most of the experiments and studies focused on publishing results of big data technologies development, machine learning algorithms, and data analytics. To the best of our knowledge, there is not yet any comprehensive empirical study in the academic literature on big data technology acceptance. The statistical results of this model provide a compelling explanation of the relationships among the antecedent variables and the dependent variables. The analysis of the structural model reveals that the hypothesis tests are significant for 8 out of 12 path relationships. IEEE

    Factors Influencing Student Information Technology Adoption

    Innovating service delivery in higher education by leveraging technology is central to supporting goals of transforming higher education to center on the needs of today's students. Aligned with these goals, this article identifies key determinants of student information technology adoption. Using a mixed-methods and empirical approach based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), a web-based survey was administered to undergraduate students at a public university in the Western United States to learn about their experiences with a web-based digital services platform (native mobile app and website), that aids students in accessing services and resources critical to maintaining their enrollment. Structural Equation Modeling, including Principal Components Analysis, was used to analyze 1841 valid survey responses and derive statistical results. The findings suggest that effort expectancy and social influence stand out as critical influences on behavioral intention to adopt the software for accessing university services, and new to UTAUT, that social influence and a students’ basic technology skills are significant determinants of effort expectancy. This article makes unique contributions to the research literature. It applies UTAUT to a higher education context to help explain the critical determinants of the adoption of software for accessing university services. It also provides insights for how UTAUT can be applied in the university setting and offers suggestions for enhancing UTAUT. IEEE

    Augmented Reality Technology Adoption: Case of a Mobile Application in Turkey

    With the increasing use of smart devices, augmented reality (AR) technology has become widespread in mobile devices. As with user interaction technologies, there are factors affecting the use of applications in mobile augmented reality (MAR) applications. In this study, the factors affecting the use of mobile augmented reality in Turkey are investigated. Although AR and MAR are generally investigated during the research period, “Augment”, the application, was used in the survey and interview parts of the research study. The interview consists of three different parts in addition to a quantitative experimental study. More than hundred variables were obtained from articles and interviews which 22 of them were selected. The results showed that the two most important factors that influence usage of MAR applications are security and privacy. These two are followed by ease of learning, visual quality of the application 3D model, and ease of use in importance, respectively. It is recommended that designers and application developers consider these five variables when designing or developing a MAR application. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd

    Design Based Exploration of Medical System Adoption: Case of Wheelchair Ramps

    This study focuses on the exploration of wheelchair users' expectations from portable ramps and their adoption factors, then correspondingly offers a smart mass customization design tool. Briefly, portable ramps are generally used by wheelchair users, and provide a temporary solution to increase accessibility in their daily lives. In this research, a rollable ramp was examined as this prototype was developed in a prior funded research and thesis study. Our aim in this study is to explore the critical factors of satisfaction of users' and potential users' of portable ramps. To maximize the usability of portable ramp in various outdoor/indoor spaces and physical structures, an efficient permutation of flexible/adjustable components is offered. The research includes flexibility and customization and many external factors effective for adoption of portable ramp. In this context, three research methods were applied; semi structured-face-to-face interviews, observation, and experimental study. The constructs of the survey were extracted from literature and patent reviews then refined during observation and interviews. Wheelchair users answered a web-based survey with multiple constructs. The survey uncovered that personalization, flexibility, extension capability, and cost is critical. As well, users prefer the chance to try the model before purchasing. The effort needed to carry and learn how to use the ramp seems to be one of the key factors. It is also found that the user's life style and product match has an effect on adoption. At the end of the study, a smart mass customization design tool will be developed, which potential users or sales representatives are able to easily interact with in order to customize the portable ramp. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd

    A Smart Mass Customization Design Tool: a Case Study of a Portable Ramp for Wheelchair Users

    Portable ramps are generally used by wheelchair users, provide temporary solution to increase accessibility in their daily lives. Portable ramps should allow for modifications in terms of weight, length, load bearing capacity, ease of handling, storage and further design parameters. Different types of portable ramps can be found in the market; however, their modifications cannot go beyond just length modification, or they allow to select just some restricted width options. However, portable ramps are quite suitable for mass customization concept which helps to satisfy customer while being involved in design step. This study aims to determine the wheelchair users' expectations and correspondingly to offer a smart mass customization design tool which potential users are able to interact with easily. To this end, a case study is conducted with a rollable ramp which is designed and developed within the scope of 1512 - Entrepreneurship Multi-phase Programme (Teknogirisim Sermaye Destegi Programi) of The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TuBITAK). The methodology and its implementation are described elaborately, and example of a parametric smart customization tool design are illustrated in this study. First, the preliminary study is explained briefly. Afterward, the desired modification parameters are determined with literature and patent survey as well as observation and interviews with the potential users. After systematic review and evaluation of user experiences, the model is assessed.

    Adoption Factors of Electronic Health Record Systems

    The main goal of the study is to investigate the factors that affect adoption of EHR systems. The adoption has been looked at through four lenses: users' satisfaction, impact on quality of care, infusion and diffusion of the technology. The study incorporates the results of the most important studies in the field. The findings of the research allow decision-makers to select an EHR that better suits needs of the users, to choose a strategy to avoid users' resistance and lack of support. The study offers a comprehensive framework that can be used in different settings, i.e. small and large clinics, developing and developed countries, etc. Also it contributes to the state of knowledge, as it provides an extensive analysis of the factors, both system- and user-related, that affect user adoption and proves applicability of TAM in the healthcare settings.
