Search for High-Mass Resonances Decaying To a Jet and a Lorentz-Boosted Resonance in Proton-Proton Collisions at Root S=13 Tev
    (Elsevier, 2022) Karapınar, Güler
A search is reported for high-mass hadronic resonances that decay to a parton and a Lorentz-boosted resonance, which in turn decays into a pair of partons. The search is based on data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb(-1). The boosted resonance is reconstructed as a single wide jet with substructure consistent with a two-body decay. The high-mass resonance is thus considered as a dijet system. The jet substructure information and the kinematic properties of cascade resonance decays are exploited to disentangle the signal from the large quantum chromodynamics multijet background. The dijet mass spectrum is analyzed for the presence of new high-mass resonances, and is found to be consistent with the standard model background predictions. Results are interpreted in a warped extra dimension model where the high-mass resonance is a Kaluza-Klein gluon, the boosted resonance is a radion, and the final state partons are all gluons. Limits on the production cross section are set as a function of the Kaluza-Klein gluon and radion masses. These limits exclude at 95% confidence level models with Kaluza-Klein gluon masses in the range 2.0 to 4.3 TeV and radion masses in the range 0.20 to 0.74TeV. By exploring a novel experimental signature, the observed limits on the Kaluza-Klein gluon mass are extended by up to about 1 TeV compared to previous searches. (C) 2022 The Author(s). Search for the Rare Decay of the W Boson Into a Pion and a Photon in Proton-Proton Collisions at S=13tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2021) Sirunyan,A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan,A.; Adam,W.; Ambrogi,F.; Bergauer,T.; Dragicevic,M.; Chistov,R.
A search is performed for the rare decay W±→π±γ in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV. Data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137fb−1 were collected during 2016 to 2018 with the CMS detector. This analysis exploits a novel search strategy based on W boson production in top quark pair events. An inclusive search for the W±→π±γ decay is not optimal at the LHC because of the high trigger thresholds. Instead, a trigger selection is exploited in which the W boson originating from one of the top quarks is used to tag the event in a leptonic decay. The W boson emerging from the other top quark is used to search for the W±→π±γ signature. Such decays are characterized by an isolated track pointing to a large energy deposit, and by an isolated photon of large transverse momentum. The presence of b quark jets reduces the background from the hadronization of light-flavor quarks and gluons. The W±→π±γ decay is not observed. An upper exclusion limit is set to this branching fraction, corresponding to 1.50×10−5 at 95% confidence level, whereas the expected upper exclusion limit is 0.85−0.29 +0.52×10−5. © 2021 The Author(s)

Studies of Charm and Beauty Hadron Long-Range Correlations in Pp and Ppb Collisions at Lhc Energies
    (Elsevier, 2021) Karapınar, Güler
Measurements of the second Fourier harmonic coefficient (v(2)) of the azimuthal distributions of prompt and nonprompt D-0 mesons produced in pp and pPb collisions are presented. Nonprompt D-0 mesons come from beauty hadron decays. The data samples are collected by the CMS experiment at nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energies of 13 and 8.16 TeV, respectively. In high multiplicity pp collisions, v(2) signals for prompt charm hadrons are reported for the first time, and are found to be comparable to those for light-flavor hadron species over a transverse momentum (pT) range of 2-6 GeV. Compared at similar event multiplicities, the prompt D-0 meson v(2) values in pp and pPb collisions are similar in magnitude. The v(2) values for open beauty hadrons are extracted for the first time via nonprompt D-0 mesons in pPb collisions. For pT in the range of 2-5 GeV, the results suggest that v(2) for nonprompt D-0 mesons is smaller than that for prompt D-0 mesons. These new measurements indicate a positive charm hadron v(2) in pp collisions and suggest a mass dependence in v(2) between charm and beauty hadrons in the pPb system. These results provide insights into the origin of heavy-flavor quark collectivity in small systems. (C) 2020 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B.V.

Measurement of the Azimuthal Anisotropy of [Formula Presented] and [Formula Presented] Mesons in PbPb Collisions at S NN =5.02 TeV
    (Elsevier B.V., 2021) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Bergauer, T.; Dragicevic, M.; De Jesus Damiao, D.
The second-order Fourier coefficients (v<inf>2</inf>) characterizing the azimuthal distributions of [Formula presented] and [Formula presented] mesons produced in PbPb collisions at s<inf> <inf>NN</inf> </inf>=5.02TeV are studied. The [Formula presented] mesons are reconstructed in their dimuon decay channel, as measured by the CMS detector. The collected data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.7nb−1. The scalar product method is used to extract the v<inf>2</inf> coefficients of the azimuthal distributions. Results are reported for the rapidity range |y|<2.4, in the transverse momentum interval 0<p<inf>T</inf><50GeV/c, and in three centrality ranges of 10–30%, 30–50% and 50–90%. In contrast to the J/ψ mesons, the measured v<inf>2</inf> values for the [Formula presented] mesons are found to be consistent with zero. © 2021 The Author(s)

Evidence for Electroweak Production of Four Charged Leptons and Two Jets in Proton-Proton Collisions at S=13tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2021) Sirunyan,A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan,A.; Adam,W.; Ambrogi,F.; Bergauer,T.; Dragicevic,M.; Chistov,R.
Evidence is presented for the electroweak (EW) production of two jets (jj) in association with two Z bosons and constraints on anomalous quartic gauge couplings are set. The analysis is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV collected with the CMS detector in 2016–2018, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137fb−1. The search is performed in the fully leptonic final state ZZ→ℓℓℓ′ℓ′, where ℓ,ℓ′=e,μ. The EW production of two jets in association with two Z bosons is measured with an observed (expected) significance of 4.0 (3.5) standard deviations. The cross sections for the EW production are measured in three fiducial volumes and the result is σEW(pp→ZZjj→ℓℓℓ′ℓ′jj)=0.33−0.10 +0.11(stat)−0.03 +0.04(syst)fb in the most inclusive volume, in agreement with the standard model prediction of 0.275±0.021fb. Measurements of total cross sections for jj production in association with two Z bosons are also reported. Limits on anomalous quartic gauge couplings are derived in terms of the effective field theory operators T0, T1, T2, T8, and T9. © 2020 The Author(s)

Measurement of Prompt D-0 and D-0 Meson Azimuthal Anisotropy and Search for Strong Electric Fields in Pbpb Collisions at Root S-Nn=5.02 Tev
(Elsevier, 2021) CMS Collaboration; Karapınar, Güler
The strong Coulomb field created in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions is expected to produce a rapiditydependent difference (Av2) in the second Fourier coefficient of the azimuthal distribution (elliptic flow, v2) between D0 (uc) and D0 (uc) mesons. Motivated by the search for evidence of this field, the CMS detector at the LHC is used to perform the first measurement of Av2. The rapidity-averaged value is found to be (Av2) = 0.001 ? 0.001 (stat)? 0.003 (syst) in PbPb collisions at ?sNN = 5.02 TeV. In addition, the influence of the collision geometry is explored by measuring the D0 and D0mesons v2 and triangular flow coefficient (v3) as functions of rapidity, transverse momentum (pT), and event centrality (a measure of the overlap of the two Pb nuclei). A clear centrality dependence of prompt D0 meson v2 values is observed, while the v3 is largely independent of centrality. These trends are consistent with expectations of flow driven by the initial-state geometry. ? 2021 The Author. Published by Elsevier B.V. This is an open access article under the CC BY license

Measurement of the T(t)over-Bar Production Cross Section in Pp Collisions at Root S=7 Tev With Lepton Plus Jets Final States
    (Elsevier Ltd., 2013) Karapınar, Güler
A measurement of the a production cross section in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV is presented. The results are based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 fb(-1) collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. Selected events are required to have one isolated, high transverse momentum electron or muon, large missing transverse energy, and hadronic jets, at least one of which must be consistent with having originated from a b quark. The measured cross section is 158.1 +/- 2.1 (stat.) +/- 10.2 (syst.) +/- 3.5 (lum.) pb, in agreement with standard model predictions. (C) 2013 CERN. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Search for Heavy Narrow Dilepton Resonances in Pp Collisions at Root S=7 Tev and Root S=8 Tev
    (Elsevier Ltd., 2013) Karapınar, Güler
An updated search for heavy narrow resonances decaying to muon or electron pairs using the CMS detector is presented. Data samples from pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV and 8 TeV at the LHC, with integrated luminosities of up to 5.3 and 4.1 fb(-1), respectively, are combined. No evidence for a heavy narrow resonance is observed. The analysis of the combined data sets excludes, at 95% confidence level, a Sequential Standard Model Z '(SSM) resonance lighter than 2590 GeV, a superstring-inspired Z '(psi) lighter than 2260 GeV, and Kaluza-Klein gravitons lighter than 2390 (2030) GeV, assuming that the coupling parameter k/(M) over bar (Pl) is 0.10 (0.05). These are the most stringent limits to date. (C) 2013 CERN. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Measurement of the W+w- and Zz Production Cross Sections in Pp Collisions at Root S=8 Tev
    (Elsevier Ltd., 2013) Karapınar, Güler
The W+W- and ZZ production cross sections are measured in proton-proton collisions at root s = 8 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC in data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 5.3 fb(-1). The measurements are performed in the leptonic decay modes W+W- -> l'vl '' v and ZZ -> 2l2l', where l = e, mu and l'(l '') = e, mu, tau. The measured cross sections sigma (pp -> W+W-) =, 69.9 +/- 2.8 (stat.) +/- 5.6 (syst.) 3.1 +/- (lum.) pb and sigma (pp -> ZZ) = 8.4 +/- 1.0 (stat) +/- 0.7 (syst) +/- 0.4 (lum.) pb, for both Z bosons produced in the mass region 60 < m(Z) < 120 GeV, are consistent with standard model predictions. These are the first measurements of the diboson production cross sections at root s = 8 TeV. (C) 2013 CERN. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Event Shapes and Azimuthal Correlations in Z Plus Jets Events in Pp Collisions at Root S=7 Tev
    (Elsevier Ltd., 2013) Karapınar, Güler
Measurements of event shapes and azimuthal correlations are presented for events where a Z boson is produced in association with jets in proton-proton collisions. The data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC at root s = 7 TeV correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1). The analysis provides a test of predictions from perturbative QCD for a process that represents a substantial background to many physics channels. Results are presented as a function of jet multiplicity, for inclusive Z boson production and for Z bosons with transverse momenta greater than 150 GeV, and compared to predictions from Monte Carlo event generators that include leading-order multiparton matrix-element (with up to four hard partons in the final state) and next-to-leading-order simulations of Z + 1-jet events. The experimental results are corrected for detector effects, and can be compared directly with other QCD models. (c) 2013 CERN. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
