The low spatial resolutions of these sensors frequently give rise to the mixing problem in remote sensing applications. Several unmixing approaches are developed in order to handle the challenging mixing problem on perspective images. On the other hand, omnidirectional imaging systems provide a 360-degree field of view in a single image at the expense of lower spatial resolution. In this study, we propose a novel imaging system which integrates hyperspectral cameras with mirrors so on to yield catadioptric omnidirectional imaging systems to benefit from the advantages of both modes. Catadioptric images, incorporating a camera with a reflecting device, introduce radial warping depending on the structure of the mirror used in the system. This warping causes a non-uniformity in the spatial resolution which further complicates the unmixing problem. In this context, a novel spatial-contextual unmixing algorithm specifically for the large field of view of the hyperspectral imaging system is developed. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on various real-world and simulated cases. The experimental results show that the proposed approach outperforms compared methods.Article Citation - Scopus: 1Curve Description by Histograms of Tangent Directions(Institution of Engineering and Technology, 2019) Köksal, Ali; Özuysal, MustafaThe authors propose a novel approach for the description of objects based on contours in their images using real-valued feature vectors. The approach is particularly suitable when objects of interest have high contrast and texture-free images or when the texture variations are high so textural cues are nuisance factors for classification. The proposed descriptor is suitable for nearest neighbour classification still popular in embedded vision applications when the power considerations outweigh the performance requirements. They describe object outlines purely based on the histograms of contour tangent directions mimicking many of the design heuristics of texture-based descriptors such as scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT). However, unlike SIFT and its variants, the proposed approach is directly designed to work with contour data and it is robust to variations inside and outside the object outline as well as the sampling of the contour itself. They show that relying on tangent direction estimation as opposed to gradient computation yields a more robust description and higher nearest neighbour classification rates in a variety of classification problems.Article Numerical Investigations of Resistive Wall Wake Potentials(Institution of Engineering and Technology, 2020) Yaman, FatihThe aim of this Letter is to examine and identify longitudinal resistive wall wake potential behaviours of medium-beta long bunches and ultra-relativistic short bunches using different beam and pipe properties for particle accelerator applications. The lack of detailed analysis in current literature for the chosen set of parameters ignites this work. Since computations of wake potentials for the considered beam parameters by particle-in-cell codes are extremely difficult the author uses an analytical approach. Numerical integrations are evaluated for large domains with fine discretisations. The author observes that conductivity of beam pipe has a larger impact on medium-beta long bunches, variation of beam velocity effects wakes of short bunches more significantly, beam radii changes may have a contribution to instability for low energy short bunches. A spatial signature based secure multiple-input single-output (MISO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system is proposed to disrupt the reception of a passive eavesdropper by holding two practically relevant assumptions: a limited feedback link for legitimate node and the unavailability of channel state information of eavesdropper. The proposed algorithm achieves a higher average secrecy rate than the conventional secure MISO-OFDM systems in presence of a limited feedback link.Article Citation - WoS: 9Citation - Scopus: 13Training Cnns With Image Patches for Object Localisation(Institution of Engineering and Technology, 2018) Orhan, Semih; Baştanlar, YalınRecently, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have shown great performance in different problems of computer vision including object detection and localisation. A novel training approach is proposed for CNNs to localise some animal species whose bodies have distinctive patterns such as leopards and zebras. To learn characteristic patterns, small patches which are taken from different body parts of animals are used to train models. To find object location, in a test image, all locations are visited in a sliding window fashion. Crops are fed into trained CNN and their classification scores are combined into a heat map. Later on, heat maps are converted to bounding box estimates for varying confidence scores. The localisation performance of the patch-based training approach is compared with Faster R-CNN – a state-of-the-art CNN-based object detection and localisation method. However, the feedback load increases with the number of users, device-relay candidates, antennas and subcarriers. Dynamic inversion technique in conjunction with robust integral of the sign of the error term is utilised in the controller design. Compared to the previous studies, the need of acceleration measurements of the aircraft have been removed. In addition, the proposed controller design utilises only the output of aircraft dynamics. Lyapunov based analysis is applied to prove global asymptotic convergence of the tracking error signal. Microroughened Ti surfaces were produced by sandblasting with Al2O3 particles of 50 μm in diameter and acid-etching in a blend of HCl/H2SO4 solution. The surface morphology, topography and chemical composition of the specimens were analysed by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The surface roughness and the wettability of treated Ti surfaces were measured using profilometry and a contact angle measurement system, respectively. With anodising of sandblasted-/acid etched surfaces, micrometre- and nanometre-scale textures on titanium specimens were created. Results showed that these developed nanoporous-microroughened surfaces exhibited lower contact angle values than the other treated Ti surfaces. The sandblasted/acid-etched/anodised Ti specimen had a surface morphology with distinctively formed hills and valleys and higher surface roughness than the other anodised specimens. This study indicated that nanoporous TiO2 structures fabricated on microroughened Ti can be an effective way to modify the titanium surfaces for the future development of implant applications.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 2Enhancing Stereo Matching Performance by Colour Normalisation and Specularity Removal(Institution of Engineering and Technology, 2011) Ozan, Şükrü; Gümüştekin, ŞevketA method to enhance the performance of stereo matching is presented. The position of the specular light reflection on an object surface varies due to the change in the position of the camera, light source, object or all combined. Additionally, there may be situations exhibiting a colour shift owing to a change in the light source chromaticity or camera white balance settings. These variations cause misleading results when stereo matching algorithms are applied. In this reported work, a single-image-based statistical method is used to normalise source images. This process effectively eliminates non-saturated specularities regardless of their positions on the object. L.; Dawson, Darren M.; Wagner, John R.; Tatlıcıoğlu, Envern this study, the Coleman-hysteresis model is utilised in the piezoelectric actuator (PZTA) dynamic model and a non-linear robust control strategy is then developed to actively control the displacement of the PZTA effective tip. The proposed control technique is designed based on the partial knowledge of the hysteresis model while the mass of the PZTA is assumed to be uncertain. The piezoelectric charge measurement is utilised in the controller design to reduce the effects of the hysteresis. Lyapunov-based stability analysis techniques are utilised to ensure that a desired displacement trajectory is accurately tracked. Representative numerical results are presented and discussed to demonstrate the tracking performance of several desired displacement trajectories with different frequencies and amplitudes. Finally, comparisons with a standard PID controller and a sliding mode controller were performed to examine the effectiveness of the proposed control design. © 2012 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.
