Using Augmented Reality (AR) in Vocational Education Programs to Teach Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
(The Design and Technology Association, 2021) Hülagü, R.; Erkarslan, Ö.
The aim of this research is to design a system that will raise awareness among vocational education students about occupational health and safety and the integration of Augmented Reality (AR) systems into the application/concept. Simply, projected on the work force surface, the AR system warns the students as they perform actions that pose a risk, need caution and may result in accidents. Therefore, by repetitive warnings, students learn the faultiness of actions in a faster pace and develop and insightful awareness. The research involves a literature review and two experiments studies in Çınarlı Vocational and Technical High School (CVHS) with high school and Dokuz Eylül University Mechanical Engineering (DEU ME) students. A system is designed according to the findings from these studies. As a result, students learnt to be more cautious, and the number of mistakes they make decreased. This will result in decrease in the number of occupational accidents, deaths and financial loss. The project presents an innovative method applicable both to the industry and the training a qualified work force. © 2021, The Design and Technology Association. All rights reserved.

Medical Geology Outreach: a Major Success Story From Turkey
    (Springer International Publishing, 2021) Baba,A.; Finkelman,R.B.
It is incumbent upon medical geology practitioners to reach out to students, science faculties, decision makers, and the biomedical/public health communities to promote this emerging discipline. Perhaps the most successful of these efforts have taken place in Turkey where medical geology courses have been offered in four medical and ten engineering faculties. As a result of these outreach efforts by the Turkish medical geology community for the past decade, there has been robust interactions with scientists from many disciplines and collaborative research on groundwater quality, asbestos, radon, arsenic, mesothelioma, fluorosis, etc. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.

Internship Experience for Learning the Operation of a Cable-Driven Robot for Rehabilitation Tasks
(Springer, 2019) Carbone, G.; Cafolla, D.; Ceccarelli, M.; Aydınoğlu, Öndercan; Demirel, Murat
This paper describes an example of internship experience at LARM, Laboratory of Robotics and Mechatronics, at University of Cassino and South Latium. In particular, the main focus of this paper is the learning process as basis of a proper internship. Namely, a specific experiential learning approach is proposed as referring to a low-cost servo motor operation task. The learning task is further defined and developed as referring to a real application with a cable-driven robot for rehabilitation tasks, which has been designed and built at LARM in Cassino and under further investigation within Agewell project.

Learning Styles Diagnosis Based on Learner Behaviors in Web Based Learning
(Springer Verlag, 2009) Atman, Nilüfer; İnceoğlu, Mustafa Murat; Aslan, Burak Galip
Individuals have different backgrounds, motivation and preferences in their own learning processes. Web-based systems that ignore these differences have difficulty in meeting learners' needs effectively. One of these individual differences is the learning style. For providing adaptively incorporated learning styles, firstly learning styles of learners have to be identified. There are many different learning models in literature. This study is based on Felder and Silverman's Learning Styles Model and investigates only active/reflective and visual/verbal dimensions of this model. Instead of filling out a questionnaire, learner behaviors are analyzed with the help of literature-based approaches so that learning styles of learners can be detected.
