    Today, one of the biggest problems of our cities is the visual pollution and confusion, which is caused by signage because of the absence of a regulation or a special authorized institution. To prevent this visual pollution, the commercial signage must be examined carefully. This research aims to study the problems about signage and sign planning process, in respect with the regulation examples that are valid for both, in foreign countries and Turkiye, as well as to offer a regulation example in the historical city center of izmir; Kemeraltl in accordance with registered buildings as a case study.

    A New Method in the Process of Creating Urban Form: Urban Coding

    This study aims: to introduce the theoretical and pragmatic features of the New Urbanism. and the .Urban Coding Method.. vhich is known as the last pL1Ilning approach in an historical framework: to show that most of this approach' s design approach in an historical framework: to show that most of this approach design principles and the life style that it determines have something in common and convenient with the traditional Turkish values that we are about to lost: to prove that concerning local features, it would be adapted and take the place of conventional planning approach. In order to demonstrate it a physical comparative design sutdy was accomplished in a case study area, Karşıyaka Şemikler District. which is one of the most important and also problematic site within the Izmir Metropolitan Area. This study indicated that, New Urbanist principles can generate more desirable consequences as compared to conventional principles in the process of creating urban form provided that people approve to change their short sight and approve to be recepti ve.

    The main aim of this thesis is to find solutions to the problems of children who are in need of protection, especially to the problems involving their physical and social environment.In order these children to be integrated into the urban environment, their problems are needed to be solved by new planning regulations, new planning policies and the children's village being a new type of urban land use should be proposed in our city plans.In this context, also the location criteria, area requirements and design guidelines are developed and a prototype plan of a children's village; which is an alternative living environment, is proposed.

    Urban design for disabled people

    Defining outdoor space dimensions and standards in respect to disabled people's requirements and redesign of selected outdoor space components in respect to these standards is the main subject of this research. It is important that just "outdoor open space" is the main concern of the research. For this reason at first, starting point of the research, "Universal Design" explained with its guidelines and principles in detail, then, importance of disabled people's participation in social and economic life and reasons of increase in their population is emphasised. After, general terminology, definitions, and dimensions of outdoor space components and disabled people's are given. Outdoor space components are defined and then, their design and maintenance guidelines, standards are given. At the end, Izmir City Centre is selected as a project area and absence and faults of existing outdoor built environment in respect to disabled people requirements defined . In project, selected outdoor space components that are not correspond standards are redesigned in accordance with design guidelines and standards.

    Use of Public Lands for Mass Housing Projects in the Privatization Process-Izmir Case

    Physical structure of today' s cities and selections of social status in urban space have been existing with the effect of property phenomenon. Thus, examination of policies, institutional structures and implementations concerning the property ownership of urban land and transformation of these lands into urban lots has great importance. Existence of public lands forms and important potential for directing urban development and for providing insufficient urban facilities. In our country, comprehensive policies concerning the use and stock of public lands have not been developed, large urban facility areas have been randomly formed by using public lands without examining if they were suitable or not and these have been affecting urban macroform. Moreover, development amnesties have been enacted after the development of public lands and plans have been prepared, later. Property has been turned over to private property while using public lands for these purposes. In the city of izmir, municipality or treasury owned public lands on developed areas have started to be filled with sqautter houses; with mass housing settlements built by municipalities, cooperatives and Real Estate Bank. Basic examination of the study is; which policies were applied 10 property supply and using forms in the development of public lands as mass housing areas inside izmir Metropolitan Area and problems have occured during the implementation process of those policies. The goal of finding the answers of these questions is to make a contribution to the formation of more coherent policies in the use of public lands. In this study, it was goaled to examine mass housing areas built on public lands inside izmir Metropolitan Are4,- on the base of property supply and using Wrms. Therefore, firstly data concerning the generaL characteristics and land selections of these areas were presented. Evka-l, iz-Kent-l and izk.onut-l developments.were-selectd as study areas related to the transfer and using ownership processes and using and transfer ratios of the renting position of these dwellings by their first owners were given.
