In this modern world; furniture using gain a meaning and play important role than before, it defines peopele.s social status and their posion in this life. Design criteria are changing and improving everyday because of this designers use different equipments for their desingns. Glass production which is diffucult to take a shape hence plastic meterials were common after World War II. Modern views and their strength transperent materials satisfied designers desires. After gained environment conclousness same plastics which are non recyling products were gave up to use. Light and high strength plastic which is a recyling material PMMA is very common to use PMMA as known as a brand which name is plexiglass in Turkey. Also this plastic materials have very effective features than others.. İn this study, transparent sheets, glass and PMMA which are used furniture production were studied. As a designer approach different examples and combine details are given.Combine details which are used furniture production were researched and PMMA panel's strength, variety and flexibility were suggested as an beneficial metarial. After the performance, for the office furnitures, there had been a suggestion on a material that brings positive reaction for its endurance, variation and elasticity to the PMMA plate which is more frequently preferred compared with glass. In the suggested material, putting galvanized matting string between the two PMMA plates resulted in stronger and more elasticity characteristics, compared to the standart PMMA plate. After the compose of the material, it had been put through durability test.As a result the material's bending durability had been calculated, too.Master Thesis Optimization of the Product Design Through Quality Function Deployment (qfd) and Analaytical Hierarchy Process (ahp): a Case Study in a Ceramic Washbasin(Izmir Institute of Technology, 2009) Yılmaz, Hande; Erkarslan, Önder; Erkarslan, Önder; 02.04. Department of Industrial Design; 02. Faculty of Architecture; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyThis study demonstrates the paradoxical cycle of modern life, which has simultaneously obliged to standardize the objects and individualize subjects. Under the impact of mechanistic look, conceptions of mobility and modularity emerge as affixed part of this paradoxical cycle. In the context of standardization and individualism, this study focuses on the birth of modern kitchen conceptions relating to the standardization of modern housing and the work process. Then the study addresses the transformation process of modern kitchen from stable architectural space into independent standardized mobile furniture. Thus, it gains great capacity by being in motion and possibility to separate itself from home and its context in order to encounter the sense of freedom, changeability and individuality. This study also focuses on modularized kitchen, which is standardized as much as it is divided into parts enriched by various sliding, rotating, folding and joining elements. So, the mobility has emerged as a conception that increased the possibilities of variations and changeability of modularized kitchen. Consequently, each moveable component has prepared the conditions of kitchen-in-motion that look for new directions towards transformable kitchen design.Master Thesis Polymers as Design Materials for Toy Industry(Izmir Institute of Technology, 1998) Ünver, Kemal Hakan; Seçkin, Yavuz; Seçkin, Yavuz; 02.04. Department of Industrial Design; 02. Faculty of Architecture; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyIn this thesis it is intended to investigate the superiority of plastics as a material for a specific product design. Plastics with their intrinsic capabilities, have too many improved characteristics to offer to individuals which makes any research very valuable. When making this research, the methods to be employed were not only limited with library researches but also contained bilateral relations with various producers of either the material or the toys. Under the light of these findings and experiences the formation of the most convenient material was selected for the product. The second point was to design a toy and/or a system for children which would help them get prepared for the coming years. It is found out that, for children toys are more meaningful when combined with their imagination. That is why it is intended to design for preschool children when their imagination is as pure as it can be.Finally it is concluded that with the debut of plastics materials in individuals lives, the characterization of forms, functions and ideas were highly and easily achieved.Master Thesis A Study on Street Furniture Design Criteria for Bus Stops(Izmir Institute of Technology, 2001) Kaya, Erol; Seçkin, Yavuz; Seçkin, Yavuz; 02.04. Department of Industrial Design; 02. Faculty of Architecture; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyPeople, in the effort to design the public spaces, began to constitute the elements that meet their simple demands in these spaces and so the first samples of street furniture began to form and increased in number.Street furniture are systems that consist of products such as street lamps signs, phone booths, seating, bus stops, which meet the user demands such as comfort, information, recreation and that are used commonly, located in urban spaces by institutions, and that help to form a healthy environment. In the beginning, they were produced one by one, but later mass production method began to be used according to the changing requirements. Today, the production and location of these industrialized elements carry importance with the design and location selection criteria. So, the aim of this thesis, is to study the general design criteria about street furniture, that have importance in urban space and in special to study the criteria of elements used in bus stops which have an important place in the city with their location, classification, dimension and form.As a result, design of a bus stop was realized in accordance with today's requirements and technologies and the design process and criteria were tried to be explained.Master Thesis An Analytical Survey on the Role of Packaging in Industrial Design(Izmir Institute of Technology, 2000) Göktepe, Yankı; Göktepe, Yankı; Seçkin, Yavuz; Seçkin, Yavuz; 02.04.
