Master Thesis Human-centric artificial intelligence systems for visual assistance and multimodal emotion analysis(01. Izmir Institute of Technology, 2024) Gümüş, Abdurrahman; Gümüş, Abdurrahman; 03.05. Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; 03. Faculty of Engineering; 01. Master Thesis The Effect of Human-Robot Interaction on Design and Use Process of Home Robots(Izmir Institute of Technology, 2022) Başoğlu, Ahmet Nuri; Tuğlular, Tuğkan; Tuğlular, Tuğkan; Başoğlu, Ahmet Nuri; 02.04. Department of Industrial Design; 03.04. Department of Computer Engineering; 03. Faculty of Engineering; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology; 02. Faculty of ArchitectureThis thesis aims to develop a method that will enable the user to get maximum efficiency in using robots by establishing an accurate and effective interaction with the user of domestic service robots. Domestic home robots run in environments that vary significantly according to user preferences, unlike industrial robots that work in manufacturing areas under strict and customary rules, referring to the user and usage area. This situation introduces some challenges, especially for mobile domestic service robots such as robotic vacuum cleaners, to reach maximum efficiency. Hence, in this study, the customization of domestic service robots has been taken as the center according to users’ needs, preferences, and environmental factors. The Hybrid Model approach, composed of integrating the Dynamic Eco-Strategy Explorer Model and the Built-to-Order Model, has emerged and been designed to establish a well-structured relationship with the user in order to provide customization from the product purchase stage. The model consists of two interconnected main sections, with six steps in the first and four in the second. In addition, as another critical point, the Hybrid Model suggests that domestic robots be designed as modular and integrated components. At the same time, in this study, a digital web prototype for forming a robot vacuum cleaner named RoboCUD was designed in order to observe and analyze the effects of the Hybrid Model on the user. For analysis, data were collected using survey questions based on variables collected from a detailed literature review and interviews with existing users. On top of that, the customization part depends on the prototype website experience of the participants. An experimental survey study was conducted to learn about the possible effects of the model and people’s approaches to the use of robot vacuums. At the end of the study, the data were reported by applying different analysis methods.Master Thesis Information and Communication Technologies for Public Use and Interactive-Multimedia City Kiosks(Izmir Institute of Technology, 2004) Taşkın, Özlem; Özcan, Ahmet Can; Özcan, A. Can; 02.04. Department of Industrial Design; 02. Faculty of Architecture; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyThis thesis provides framework for consideration of the potential of information andcommunication technologies for public events and performances for the developing usage of new products, particularly information public kiosks. In the theoretical framework, the concepts and terms of information and communication technology are generally introduced along with the identification of number of major factors such as elements, diversity, necessity and evolution. Moreover, the importance of ICT technologies in urban settings and human behavior in response to this type of technology are investigated through the history of ICT. The concept of the usage of information and communication technology by actual people is particularly emphasized. Not only the utilization of information and communication technology in public space is described but also effective usage of ICT in the public space and information access provided by public products are identified.Figures of ICT systems and related products, their roots in design differences and new tools and products that are common examples of ICT, particularly the use of the information city kiosk, are presented and discussed. Design principles of the public information kiosk, which play a prominent role in the public use of ICT, are established. The analysis of design factors and human-product relations based on user profile, material choices, form, function and location are discussed. Finally, the thesis includes a conclusion that argues that the information city kiosks and their increased public use will designate the new images of the cities.Master Thesis Analysis of Graphical User Interface Design in the Context of Human-Computer Interaction (with a Case Study on Oven Control Panel)(Izmir Institute of Technology, 2005) İlhan, Özlem; Erkarslan, Önder; Erkarslan, Önder; 02.04. Department of Industrial Design; 02. Faculty of Architecture; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyIn this era that the popularity of digital products has risen, computer and its tools affect every part of our lives. New technologies provide extraordinary powers to those people who master them. Digital products and their graphical user interfaces are still new technologies that are being rapidly disseminated. Human performance in the use of digital product will remain a rapidly expanding research and development topic in the coming decades. For this reason, theimportance of interaction between digital product and user should be considered. The term .Graphical user interface. is the layer where the digital productcommunicated with human and human communicated with digital product. A well-designed product can fail with an unsuccessful interface. Conversely, a product has not good design values can become successful with its well-designed interface. To get best interaction between digital product and user, the graphical interface design itself has some rudimentary design values like user-friendliness, usability, easy to learn, etc.At an individual level, user interfaces change many people.s lives. For instance, At an individual level, user interfaces change many people.s lives. For instance, and technicians can manipulate their job more safely. Some changes, however, are disruptive; too often, users must cope with frustration, fear, and failure when they encounter excessive complexity, incomprehensible terminology, or chaotic layouts.Designers are exploring how best to organize information graphically. They are developing query languages and visually attractive facilities. Techniques such as direct manipulation, telepresence, and virtual realities may change the ways that we interact with and think about digital products. Consequently, the goal of making the user's quality of life better is important to keep in mind.In this research, from the point of an industrial designer.s view, the subject matter .Graphical user interface design., and its all interaction rules with user are evaluated. In terms of design language, which has the ability of understand the user behavior, it puts the subject matter on the agenda to explore recipe of a successful product.
