Tag Based Storage and Retrieval System for Organization Related News
(Izmir Institute of Technology, 2019) Parkın, Kübra; Tuğlular, Tuğkan
For corporate organizations, it becomes more and more important to gather information about opponents or partners, or any kind of information that can be related to the organization. In a rapidly changing world, ensuring competitiveness for organizations and making consistent strategic decisions are becoming increasingly difficult. Gathering news about the business has an undeniable effect on the decisions of companies. It is essential to keep up with this race in order not to get out of the race. Therefore, what corporate companies need is to have a retrieval system that collects and evaluates information that is relevant to the organization. However, it can be difficult to make use of large amounts of information. What needed is to store that information based on a pattern and make it easy to analyses.

Finding Out Subject-Matter Experts and Research Trends Using Bibliographic Data
(Izmir Institute of Technology, 2015) Karataş, Arzum; Tekir, Selma
With the prevalent use of information technology, it is very easy to reach nearly any information. However, if it is desired to be specialized in an area, the first thing to do is to know who are the experts in that area. Since experts have valuable knowledge, it is important to find these experts. Also, it is vital to be aware of trends for researchers who want to be expert in a topic or who want to enter into a new area. This work includes an empirical study for finding experts and research trends in academic world. We created a citation network from KDD proceedings and an author-keyword bipartite graph from bibliographic data of the same set of proceedings. Then, we applied link analysis algorithms HITS and PageRank, respectively. The results show that it is possible to detect two expert types (one that works intensively on a single subject and another having high level knowledge of various subtopics of a subject-matter). Moreover, topical trends are identified as doing peak, periodic, and having the same shape rather than showing absolute increase, decrease or stationary pose.

Development of Intelligent Buildings and Their Impacts on Architecture in Turkey
(Izmir Institute of Technology, 2002) Zağpus, Selin; Günaydın, Hüsnü Murat
Related to every period.s life conditions the community.s needs show differences. Today.s people giving prior importance to business life and depending on this priority and the incoming intense, active life flow bring up the need of .facilitating life. and again one of the most main problems in today.s life described as energy loss is reduced by designing .energy conscious. buildings. At this point of view, developing technologic and construction sector take on the roles as two important inputs to help design concept. Considerably the technological developments that took place with .Industrial Revolution. started the use of machine power, created new bazaars and new work areas, and brought up the creation of new life styles with itself. With these points, this process came across the new trends in architecture and construction. Spreading use of information technologies, make differences in expectations about daily life standards. As men can adapt the changing needs and obtain maximum suitability, need buildings with minimum cost for usage and upkeep. The main aim of the buildings described as .intelligent buildings. is use of minimum energy and besides to obtain system works and comfort at an optimal level. To be considered as intelligent, building must; With these points, besides the advantages that intelligent buildings bring up, they can cause important problems to take place. With their electrical infrastructure they may cause the inhabitants to be abstracted from the outer life, and with respect the people working in multi-storey buildings have health problems like .building syndrome. or because of the computer aided structure of these buildings .accessibility. problems can occur. These problems come in the first places on the problems rank. In the solutions of the problems occurring by intensive use and by the way increasing demands, at the point architectural solutions become insufficient electro-mechanical systems join. For providing high life standards complete for today and tomorrow.s life, the buildings which are designed bye using series of technological solutions, are composed of the integration of these systems. All these developments, different than the conventional design process, need the information flow with the other science branches -interdisciplinary approach-. A building to be formed as intelligent by .architectural concepts., with a large proportion is related to the .architect.s intelligence.. In these terms architect must be following all new developments in technology. In other ways, intelligent buildings will be the buildings designed by engineers. Nearly in the past ten years, intelligent building applications are also seen in our country. But whether the lack of investigation about the abroad works or these buildings participated in our lives with the unnecessary ambition of consumption, so with these facts intelligent buildings cannot deserve their attribute. To state that a building is totally intelligent, from the design process, the project must be taken up as a total work with the sub-systems providing central supervision and administrating. But the approach in our country sees the sufficiency as a building that owns one of the named systems or any residence full of intelligent house products. Of course these terms are not enough for intelligence. As a result, this work examines the approach to the subject in our country by evaluating sub-systems of intelligent building concept, design criteria, the advantages and disadvantages of these buildings, and the degree of intelligence. Key words: intelligent building, building automation system, office automation system, telecommunications system, information technology, and energy conscious buildings.

Cyberspace, as a Generator Concept for the Future
(Izmir Institute of Technology, 1999) Kan, Gözde; Eyüce, Ahmet
Within the scope of this study, while questioning the impacts of digital technology on the individual and architecture, the thesis contains theories and projections relating to the new and future possibilities of the architectural design process in the information age, as explored through the digital medium as well as the transfer of the digital ideas into reality. The aim is to widen the understanding of the new possibilities for architecture. The concepts, metaphors, possibilities, techniques and expressions available to the designers of the virtual world, are discussed and exemplified. The new applications and opportunities that the digital world has to offer .cyber-architects. of the future are explored. The thesis aimed to form a discussion on investigating the role of computer on design, and what the idea of virtuality offer to architecture related with the projects. In this regard, the idea which is aimed to achieve is in all these transformations, architecture, too, lives challenges inside and tries to find a new way in expressing the ideas together with cooperating the other disciplines. Today, in every field of our life, we have been liberalizated, or more truly, virtualized. A general movement of virtualization has begun to affect not only the fields of information and communication but also our physical presence so as architecture. As a result, thesis, tries to answer the questions of .what is the break-through?. .Is the break-through only in technology, not in architecture? or .is the computer more than a representational tool?. including a series of comparative analysis.Key Words: cyberspace, virtual reality, computer aided design, information technology, hypersurface and liquid architecture, future, media, architectural space, philosophy, digital architecture, information age, internet, interaction, simulacr, cyberpunk, cyberception, cyberculture.
