Izmir Institute of TechnologyThis academic study investigates the varying approaches for introducing built environment to children through the practices of architecture organizations in Turkey, namely the studies of built environment education. The practices of built environment education are novel and improving field of inquiry for Turkey which have influence for varying disciplines and also for the built environment itself. The purpose of the thesis is first to identify and examine the notions belongs to both built environment and built environment education. This theoretical attempt is to understand and learn from the documented practices of built environment education for the children in international and national scale. Secondly, the thesis focuses on and criticizes the selected cases from Ankara and İzmir in order to construct the implementation mapping to compare each selected educational practices. Besides, the study offers and implements an alternative case analysis in Turunç town / Muğla in the context of built environment education as a result of the examinations and observations of the previous studies held in local and international level. This special case is examined and evaluated as a part of the workshop series of “Turunç Mud Brick Preschool Workshops†. This analysis is to pursuit the ways of establishing an interactive learning and collaborating platform with the children, the local people, the volunteers and the professionals worked in Turunç within the same collective purpose for the awareness of built environment. Izmir Institute of TechnologyDesign has been a structural part of the industrialization processes and has inadvertently contributed to the creation of the current ecological problems of the planet. So far industrial design discipline has been producing its ecological solutions, mostly using an approach focused on products, but the changes required by the question of sustainability are systemic and can be based on the usage of services. Considering the requirement of changes in production and consumption modes, this thesis proposes a systemic approach to the problem of sustainability. Systemic change, which focuses on social interventions in daily life as well as alternative production models, is a more holistic approach for sustainability. When shifting the focus from product-based and result-oriented solutions towards process-based, experience-oriented and context-related ones the design discipline introduces co-design approach with more intense participation of users to the design process. This thesis investigates the issues mentioned above through a case study about the development of local food system in Aalborg. To this purpose, more specific user and local area research is conducted. Izmir Institute of TechnologyThe main purpose of this thesis is to examine the every aspect of industrial design from the view point of the sustainability. In traditional terms, the concern of the designer has ended with the launch of the product, but the environment-conscious designer should think about its complete life. To develop products in a sustainable way, the designer must be able to assess which design solution is better from the environmental point of view. The basic aim of this study is to help designers to comprehend the features of .Sustainable Product Design.. In other words, this thesis aims, together with considering environmental issues, to determine the basic changes occuring in design process and to lead the designer in the light of these principles. One of the main purpose of chapter 2 is to examine the every aspects of industrial product design from the sustainable point of view. In chapter 3, the changing design process is analysed by considering many specific examples which help us to comprehend the .Sustainable Product Design Process.. In chapter 4, the main environmental issues (such as global warming, water pollution, waste and noise etc...) are analysed to indicate that how industrial products affect the environment. In this chapter, there are three main sectors which are specific from the environmental point of view are selected to examine, such as electrical & electronic products, packaging and furniture products. All sectors are completely considered in specific examples to understand the relationship between the environmental issues and product design.
