Reidemeister-Franz Torsion of Compact Orientable Surfaces Via Pants Decomposition
(Balkan Society of Geometers, 2022) Dirican Erdal, Esma; Sözen, Yiğit
Let Σg,n denote the compact orientable surface with genus g ≥ 2 and boundary disjoint union of n circles. By using a particular pants decomposition of Σg,n, we obtain a formula that computes the Reidemeister-Franz torsion of Σg,n in terms of the Reidemeister-Franz torsions of pairs of pants. © Balkan Society of Geometers, Geometry Balkan Press 2022.

Rank One Perturbations Supported by Hybrid Geometries and Their Deformations
(American Institute of Physics, 2022) Erman, Fatih; Seymen, Sema; Turgut, O. Teoman
We study the hybrid type of rank one perturbations in ℝ2 and ℝ3, where the perturbation supported by a circle/sphere is considered together with the delta potential supported by a point outside of the circle/sphere. The construction of a self-adjoint Hamiltonian operator associated with formal expressions for the rank one perturbation supported by a circle and by a point is explicitly given. Bound state energies and scattering properties for each problem are also studied. Finally, we consider the rank one perturbation supported by a deformed circle/sphere and show that the first order change in bound state energies under small deformations of the circle/sphere has a simple geometric interpretation.

The Difference of Hyperharmonic Numbers Via Geometric and Analytic Methods
(Korean Mathematical Society, 2022) Altuntaş, Çağatay; Göral, Haydar; Sertbaş, Doğa Can
Our motivation in this note is to find equal hyperharmonic numbers of different orders. In particular, we deal with the integerness property of the difference of hyperharmonic numbers. Inspired by finite-ness results from arithmetic geometry, we see that, under some extra assumption, there are only finitely many pairs of orders for two hyper-harmonic numbers of fixed indices to have a certain rational difference. Moreover, using analytic techniques, we get that almost all differences are not integers. On the contrary, we also obtain that there are infinitely many order values where the corresponding differences are integers.

Dispersion Estimates for the Boundary Integral Operator Associated With the Fourth Order Schrödinger Equation Posed on the Half Line
(Element d.o.o., 2022) Özsarı, Türker; Alkan, Kıvılcım; Kalimeris, Konstantinos
In this paper, we prove dispersion estimates for the boundary integral operator associated with the fourth order Schr¨odinger equation posed on the half line. Proofs of such estimates for domains with boundaries are rare and generally require highly technical approaches, as opposed to our simple treatment which is based on constructing a boundary integral operator of oscillatory nature via the Fokas method. Our method is uniform and can be extended to other higher order partial differential equations where the main equation possibly involves more than one spatial derivatives.

    Lehmer’s Conjecture Via Model Theory
    (Japan Academy, 2022) Göral, Haydar
In this short note, we study Lehmer's conjecture in terms of stability theory. We state Bounded Lehmer's conjecture, and we prove that if a certain formula is uniformly stable in a class of structures, then Bounded Lehmer's conjecture holds. Our proof is based on Van der Waerden's theorem from additive combinatorics

Exact Time-Evolution of a Generalized Two-Dimensional Quantum Parametric Oscillator in the Presence of Time-Variable Magnetic and Electric Fields
(American Institute of Physics, 2022) Atılgan Büyükaşık, Şirin; Çayiç, Zehra
The time-dependent Schrodinger equation describing a generalized two-dimensional quantum parametric oscillator in the presence of time-variable external fields is solved using the evolution operator method. For this, the evolution operator is found as a product of exponential operators through the Wei-Norman Lie algebraic approach. Then, the propagator and time-evolution of eigenstates and coherent states are derived explicitly in terms of solutions to the corresponding system of coupled classical equations of motion. In addition, using the evolution operator formalism, we construct linear and quadratic quantum dynamical invariants that provide connection of the present results with those obtained via the Malkin-Man'ko-Trifonov and the Lewis-Riesenfeld approaches. Finally, as an exactly solvable model, we introduce a Cauchy-Euler type quantum oscillator with increasing mass and decreasing frequency in time-dependent magnetic and electric fields. Based on the explicit results for the uncertainties and expectations, squeezing properties of the wave packets and their trajectories in the two-dimensional configuration space are discussed according to the influence of the time-variable parameters and external fields. Existence and Uniqueness of Solution for Discontinuous Conewise Linear Systems
    (Elsevier, 2020) Şahan, Gökhan
In this study, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for well posedness of Conewise Linear Systems in 3-dimensional space where the vector field is allowed to be discontinuous. The conditions are stated using the subspaces derived from subsystem matrices and the results are compared with the existing conditions given in the literature. We show that even we don't have a fixed structure on system matrices as in bimodal systems, similar subspaces and numbers again determines well posedness. Copyright (C) 2020 The Authors.

A Note on Points on Algebraic Sets
(Hacettepe Üniversitesi, 2021) Çam Çelik, Şermin; Göral, Haydar
In this short note, we count the points on algebraic sets which lie in a subset of a domain. It is proved that the set of points on algebraic sets coming from certain subsets of a domain has the full asymptotic. This generalizes the first theorem of [E. Alkan and E.S. Yoruk, Statistics and characterization of matrices by determinant and trace, Ramanujan J., 2019] and also anwers some questions from the same article.

Rings With Few Units and the Infinitude of Primes
(Hacettepe Üniversitesi, 2020) Özcan, Hikmet Burak; Taşkın, Sedef
In this short note, our aim is to provide novel proofs for the infinitude of primes in an algebraic way. It’s thought that the first proof for the infinitude of primes was given by the Ancient Greek mathematician Euclid. To date, most of the proofs have been based on the fact that every positive integer greater than 1 can be written as a product of prime numbers. However, first we are going to prove a ring theoretic fact that if R is an infinite commutative ring with unity and the cardinality of the set of invertible elements is strictly less than the cardinality of the ring, then there are infinitely many maximal ideals. This fact leads to an elegant proof for the infinitude of primes. In addition, under the same cardinality assumption, we consider the special case in which R is a unique factorization domain (for short UFD) and establish another ring theoretic result. Thanks to it, we give a second proof of the infinitude of primes. © 2020, Hacettepe University. All rights reserved.

    On simple-direct modules
(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2021) Büyükaşık, Engin; Demir, Özlem; Diril, Müge
Recently, in a series of papers “simple” versions of direct-injective and direct-projective modules have been investigated. These modules are termed as “simple-direct-injective” and “simple-direct-projective,” respectively. In this paper, we give a complete characterization of the aforementioned modules over the ring of integers and over semilocal rings. The ring is semilocal if and only if every right module with zero Jacobson radical is simple-direct-projective. The rings whose simple-direct-injective right modules are simple-direct-projective are fully characterized. These are exactly the left perfect right H-rings. The rings whose simple-direct-projective right modules are simple-direct-injective are right max-rings. For a commutative Noetherian ring, we prove that simple-direct-projective modules are simple-direct-injective if and only if simple-direct-injective modules are simple-direct-projective if and only if the ring is Artinian. Various closure properties and some classes of modules that are simple-direct-injective (resp. projective) are given. © 2020 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
