Measurement of the WZ Production Cross Section in pp Collisions at S=13 TeV
    (Elsevier, 2017) Khachatryan, V.; Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Woods, N.
The WZ production cross section in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 Tev is measured with the CMS experiment at the LHC using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 fb(-1). The measurement is performed in the leptonic decay modes WZ -> lVl'l', where l,l'=e,mu. The measured cross section for the range 60<m (l'l') <120 GeV is sigma(pp -> WZ) = 39.9 +/- 3.2(stat)(2.9)(-3.1)(syst)+/- 0.4(theo)+/- 1.3(lumi)pb, consistent with the standard model prediction.

Initial Stages of a Three Dimensional Dam Break Flow
(Elsevier, 2022) Fetahu, Elona; Ivanyshyn Yaman, Olha; Yılmaz, Oğuz
Short time behavior of a three dimensional, gravity-driven free surface flow is studied analytically and numerically. Initially the fluid is at rest, held by a vertical wall. A rectangular section of the wall suddenly disappears and the gravity driven three-dimensional flow starts. In order to describe the flow in the early stage, the potential theory is employed. Viscous effects are ignored for small times. The leading order problem is solved by using the Fourier series method and an integral equation method. Local analysis of the flow field close to the side edges of the rectangular section reveals a square root singularity. The flow velocity is also log-singular at the bottom edge of the rectangular section. In the limiting case, as the width of the rectangular section approaches infinity, the results of the classical two-dimensional dam break flow are recovered. Three dimensional effects become important closer to the side edges of the rectangular section.

Existence and Uniqueness of Solution for Discontinuous Conewise Linear Systems
    (Elsevier, 2020) Şahan, Gökhan
In this study, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for well posedness of Conewise Linear Systems in 3-dimensional space where the vector field is allowed to be discontinuous. The conditions are stated using the subspaces derived from subsystem matrices and the results are compared with the existing conditions given in the literature. We show that even we don't have a fixed structure on system matrices as in bimodal systems, similar subspaces and numbers again determines well posedness. Copyright (C) 2020 The Authors.

A Supplement To the Paper of Zayed Et Al. [optik, 170 (2018) 339-341]
    (Elsevier, 2019) Aslan, İsmail
It seems that the results obtained by the so-called Khater method contain computational or print errors. We look at this issue from a different point of a view, namely, from a theoretical side. We prove our claim by a formal direct approach instead of back substitution (trial and error) approach.

Dirichlet Problem on the Half-Line for a Forced Burgers Equation With Time-Variable Coefficients and Exactly Solvable Models
(Elsevier, 2020) Atılgan Büyükaşık, Şirin; Bozacı, Aylin
We consider a forced Burgers equation with time-variable coefficients and solve the initial-boundary value problem on the half-line 0 < x < infinity with inhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition imposed at x = 0. Solution of this problem is obtained in terms of a corresponding second order ordinary differential equation and a second kind singular Volterra type integral equation. As an application of the general results, we introduce three different Burgers type models with specific damping, diffusion and forcing coefficients and construct classes of exactly solvable models. The Burgers problems with smooth time-dependent boundary data and an initial profile with pole type singularity have exact solutions with moving singularity. For each model we provide the solutions explicitly and describe the dynamical properties of the singularities depending on the time-variable coefficients and the given initial and boundary data. Green's Function Formulation of Multiple Nonlinear Dirac Delta-Function Potential in One Dimension
(Elsevier, 2020) Erman, Fatih; Uncu, Haydar
In this work, we study the scattering problem of the general nonlinear finitely many Dirac delta potentials with complex coupling constants (or opacities in the context of optics) using the Green's function method and then find the bound state energies and the wave functions for the particular form of the nonlinearity in the case of positive real coupling constants. An Elementary Proof of the Lack of Null Controllability for the Heat Equation on the Half Line
(Elsevier, 2020) Kalimeris, Konstantinos; Özsarı, Türker
In this note, we give an elementary proof of the lack of null controllability for the heat equation on the half line by employing the machinery inherited by the unified transform, known also as the Fokas method. This approach also extends in a uniform way to higher dimensions and different initial-boundary value problems governed by the heat equation, suggesting a novel methodology for studying problems related to controllability. Search for Single Production of a Vector-Like T Quark Decaying To a Z Boson and a Top Quark in Proton–proton Collisions at S=13tev
(Elsevier, 2018) CMS Collaboration; Karapınar, Güler
A search is presented for single production of a vector-like quark (T) decaying to a Z boson and a top quark, with the Z boson decaying leptonically and the top quark decaying hadronically. The search uses data collected by the CMS experiment in proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 2016, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1. The presence of forward jets is a particular characteristic of single production of vector-like quarks that is used in the analysis. For the first time, different T quark width hypotheses are studied, from negligibly small to 30% of the new particle mass. At the 95% confidence level, the product of cross section and branching fraction is excluded above values in the range 0.26–0.04 pb for T quark masses in the range 0.7–1.7 TeV, assuming a negligible width. A similar sensitivity is observed for widths of up to 30% of the T quark mass. The production of a heavy Z′ boson decaying to Tt, with T→tZ, is also searched for, and limits on the product of cross section and branching fractions for this process are set between 0.13 and 0.06 pb for Z′ boson masses in the range from 1.5 to 2.5 TeV.

Search for Pair Production of Excited Top Quarks in the Lepton + Jets Final State
(Elsevier, 2018) CMS Collaboration; Karapınar, Güler
A search is performed for the pair production of spin-3/2 excited top quarks, each decaying to a top quark and a gluon. The search uses the data collected with the CMS detector from proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. Events are selected by requiring an isolated muon or electron, an imbalance in the transverse momentum, and at least six jets of which exactly two must be compatible with originating from the fragmentation of a bottom quark. No significant excess over the standard model predictions is found. A lower limit of 1.2 TeV is set at 95% confidence level on the mass of the spin-3/2 excited top quark in an extension of the Randall–Sundrum model, assuming a 100% branching fraction of its decay into a top quark and a gluon. These are the best limits to date in a search for excited top quarks and the first at 13 TeV.

Boundary Integral Equations for the Exterior Robin Problem in Two Dimensions
(Elsevier, 2018) Ivanyshyn Yaman, Olha; Özdemir, Gazi
We propose two methods based on boundary integral equations for the numerical solution of the planar exterior Robin boundary value problem for the Laplacian in a multiply connected domain. The methods do not require any a-priori information on the logarithmic capacity. Investigating the properties of the integral operators and employing the Riesz theory we prove that the obtained boundary integral equations for both methods are uniquely solvable. The feasibility of the numerical methods is illustrated by examples obtained via solving the integral equations by the Nyström method based on weighted trigonometric quadratures on an equidistant mesh.
