Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1A Narrative of an Ideological Destruction: Where Do We Go Now?(University of Pittsburgh, 2023) Tunç Cox, Ayça; Aygün, GamzenurLebanese filmmaker, actress, and screenwriter Nadine Labaki’s 2011 film Where Do We Go Now? is about the ideological manipulation that gradually results in a big conflict among people in a rural Middle Eastern village where Muslims and Christians live in a peaceful existence. Labaki is known for her politically engaged narratives which refer to the recent political past of Lebanese whilst centralizing strong female figures. Where Do We Go Now? is no exception, and thus, reflects the director's general cinematic style and political attitude. Labaki invites her audience through the comedy to question ideology which interpellates and thus constructs the individual as a subject by revealing the ways ideology creates differences, separation, and conflict among people. In this context, this article strives to analyze the film Where Do We Go Now? employing critical discourse analysis with references to Althusser's conceptualization of ideology and Subject-subject formation. © 2023, University Library System, University of Pittsburgh. Due to the disease and treatment, children experience suffering, pain, interruption in school and playful activities, and separation from social and familiar environments. These negatively affect their quality of life (QOL). This article reports a co-design process conducted with children with cancer to shed light on their needs with regard to the play area furniture at the hospital to recommend design ideas that might improve children's QOL. The results have shown that a modular furniture system that can be customizable by children might contribute to their QOL - thanks to its adaptability to the needs of a wide range of age groups. In addition, there is a possible link between co-design sessions and children's well-being in terms of an increased sense of control, socialization and physical activities. For designers- who are the facilitators of co-design sessions with children- actively involving caregivers in co-design processes, co-designing the generative tools and the process with participants, and conducting observations and interviews to shape and complement the co-design sessions are advised. At this stage, the adaptation of individuals plays a key role. In this study, we searched for various behavioral theories and variables for our future study. With an S-question in-depth interview (7 people for sample size) and a survey of 68 actions (77 people for sample size), we investigated what subjects people tend to make changes in their daily lives. As a result, it has emerged that the tendency is to change the vehicles used in transportation. The Hybrid Model aims to switch the market power from seller-driven perception to buyer-driven one by creating an individual perspective from the eye of users rather than traditional customer segmentation. The human-centered approach established theoretically has been tested with a determined procedure that includes prototyping, testing, and evaluating the proposed customization system for robotic vacuum cleaners to increase the interaction degree with purchasers. In this case, robotic vacuum cleaners have been chosen to implement and assess the hypothesis. Firstly, the successful prototyping of the Hybrid Model requires well customer analysis and habits determination to build well-constructed and coherent interaction between the purchaser and the robot. We utilized a content analysis of robotic vacuum cleaners and elaborative, conventional interviews with early adopters and early majority of this technology in Turkey to establish credible scenarios and product options during the phases of the Hybrid Model practice. An observation supporting this view is that the home robots are not customizable. In other words, buyers cannot select the features and built their home robots to order. Stemmed from this observation, the paper proposes an approach that starts with a classification of features of home robots. This classification concerns robot interaction with humans and the environment, a home in our case. Following the classification, the proposed approach utilizes a new hybrid model based on a built-to-order model and dynamic eco-strategy explorer model, enabling designers to develop a production line and buyers to customize their home robots with the classified features. Finally, we applied the proposed approach to robotic vacuum cleaners. Clinical diagnosis involves the observation, description and interpretation of information of which visual ones take an important one. The skills described are important skills in the field of visual arts, as well. Underlying a good clinical practice; clinical examination and observation skills constitute an important place. Although in several studies, these skills are shown to be improved by analyzing visual art pieces, courses intended to improve visual thinking skills are not that much common in medical faculty curriculums. Materials and methods In this article, we share our opinion about the use of visual thinking in medical education by providing preliminary reflection results of learners from the second year of medical education about the visual thinking course that we have recently started to apply in Faculty of Medicine in collaboration with Faculty of Fine Arts in Izmir University of Economics in order to improve the observational skills of learners. Results Reflection results of the learners support the view that training art-viewing skill is helpful to improve observational and descriptive skills. Conclusions Increasing interdisciplinary programs on visual thinking in medical curriculums have the potential to overcome several professional development challenges in clinics.Article Artisans Meet Design: the Reception of the Turkish Handicraft Development Office in Turkey(Oxford University Press, 2020) Emgin, BaharPeter Muller-Munk Associates, an American industrial design firm, established the Turkish Handicraft Development Office in 1957 in Ankara as part of the US technical assistance program to developing nations. The aim of the program was to improve selected local crafts products in order to make them appealing for the American market. To this end, American designers and local craftspeople produced about 150 prototypes formed by creative combinations of meerschaum, copperware, ceramics, woodwork and basket weaving. When the office was closed in the early 1960s because of its failure to mass-produce the samples, it left behind a lively debate regarding the improvement of craft production and its relation to industrialization and economic growth. This article focuses on these debates to determine the place allocated to design within the discussions of crafts as a socio-economic activity. Most of the experiments and studies focused on publishing results of big data technologies development, machine learning algorithms, and data analytics. To the best of our knowledge, there is not yet any comprehensive empirical study in the academic literature on big data technology acceptance. The statistical results of this model provide a compelling explanation of the relationships among the antecedent variables and the dependent variables. The analysis of the structural model reveals that the hypothesis tests are significant for 8 out of 12 path relationships. Aligned with these goals, this article identifies key determinants of student information technology adoption. Using a mixed-methods and empirical approach based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), a web-based survey was administered to undergraduate students at a public university in the Western United States to learn about their experiences with a web-based digital services platform (native mobile app and website), that aids students in accessing services and resources critical to maintaining their enrollment. Structural Equation Modeling, including Principal Components Analysis, was used to analyze 1841 valid survey responses and derive statistical results. The findings suggest that effort expectancy and social influence stand out as critical influences on behavioral intention to adopt the software for accessing university services, and new to UTAUT, that social influence and a students’ basic technology skills are significant determinants of effort expectancy. This article makes unique contributions to the research literature. It applies UTAUT to a higher education context to help explain the critical determinants of the adoption of software for accessing university services. It also provides insights for how UTAUT can be applied in the university setting and offers suggestions for enhancing UTAUT. As with user interaction technologies, there are factors affecting the use of applications in mobile augmented reality (MAR) applications. In this study, the factors affecting the use of mobile augmented reality in Turkey are investigated. Although AR and MAR are generally investigated during the research period, “Augment”, the application, was used in the survey and interview parts of the research study. The interview consists of three different parts in addition to a quantitative experimental study. More than hundred variables were obtained from articles and interviews which 22 of them were selected. The results showed that the two most important factors that influence usage of MAR applications are security and privacy. These two are followed by ease of learning, visual quality of the application 3D model, and ease of use in importance, respectively. It is recommended that designers and application developers consider these five variables when designing or developing a MAR application. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd
