Article Designing a Driver Environment for Rigid Inflatable Boats Using a User-Centred Design Approach(University of Buckingham Press, 2022) Erkarslan, Özlem; Aşıcı, BurçinHerein, the importance of design methods for a company’s competence in the commercial world and the importance of integrating design into the product development process in the initial stages are discussed. Notably, driver environments on current boats are not ergonomically designed. Hence, this study aimed at designing a new driver environment with improved ergonomics and user experience that is aesthetically compelling to the market. This study is based on a user-centred design approach, which implies that all team members participate throughout the product development process to create design value for users by crafting innovative solutions that satisfy their requirements. Consequently, a new console, seating unit, and hardtop design that consider the importance of ergonomics, user experience, and manufacturability are developed. Clinical diagnosis involves the observation, description and interpretation of information of which visual ones take an important one. The skills described are important skills in the field of visual arts, as well. Underlying a good clinical practice; clinical examination and observation skills constitute an important place. Although in several studies, these skills are shown to be improved by analyzing visual art pieces, courses intended to improve visual thinking skills are not that much common in medical faculty curriculums. Materials and methods In this article, we share our opinion about the use of visual thinking in medical education by providing preliminary reflection results of learners from the second year of medical education about the visual thinking course that we have recently started to apply in Faculty of Medicine in collaboration with Faculty of Fine Arts in Izmir University of Economics in order to improve the observational skills of learners. Results Reflection results of the learners support the view that training art-viewing skill is helpful to improve observational and descriptive skills. Conclusions Increasing interdisciplinary programs on visual thinking in medical curriculums have the potential to overcome several professional development challenges in clinics.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 4The Roma Image in the Mainstream Turkish Audiovisual Media: Sixty Years of Stereotyping(Liverpool University Press, 2019) Cox, Ayça Tunç; Uştuk, OzanThis article seeks to address one of the most problematic lacunae in Turkey's political and academic landscape by examining the mediated images of the Roma people in Turkey. This long-neglected sub-cultural group in the Turkish context is mostly regarded as the “others” of society, who cannot speak for themselves. Their public imagination is, therefore, based heavily on narratives that are exclusively produced by non-Roma people. In order to reveal the historical construction of the popular Roma image in Turkey, we cover audiovisual material from the 1960s onward. Through a descriptive-interpretive analysis, we seek to explore how cultural and artistic narratives have contributed to and/or mirrored, and thus reproduced, the prevailing knowledge and imagination about the Roma people in Turkish society. © 2019 Liverpool University Press. A theoretical research model is developed based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology. A web-based survey has been used to gather data from randomly selected Smartphone users in Saudi Arabia. For data analysis, SEM approach was followed, SPSS and AMOS were utilized for analyzing data. The results indicate that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, brand influence, perceived enjoyment, and design constructs have a positive and significant relationship with users' behavioral intention to adopt and use Smartphones in Saudi Arabia. © 2020 World Scientific Publishing Company.
