Article Effect of Marination on the Formation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Grilled Vegetables(Wiley, 2025) Kacmaz Ozcetin, Sibel; Artok, LeventThe effect of marination on the formation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in charcoal-grilled vegetables was studied. Various marinade ingredients, including apple cider vinegar, red grape vinegar, lemon juice, garlic powder, black pepper, and the food additive tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) were applied to vegetable samples before charcoal grilling. The total phenolic content (TPC) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of each marinade ingredient were assessed for their contribution to PAH inhibition. A substantial decrease in PAH4 formation was observed in marinated vegetables. Red grape vinegar exhibited the strongest average inhibitory effect on total PAH4 formation (75%), followed by apple vinegar (68%), lemon juice (52%), garlic powder (34%), and black pepper (30%). Additionally, the TBHQ (67%) demonstrated a strong inhibitory effect, reducing total PAH4 formation by 67%. It is observed that agricultural areas are being removed from the industrialization and urbanization processes that are developed within the framework of industrial development oriented economic development policies that started with the Industrial Revolution and then spread to global scale. Especially agricultural areas in the urban fringes are threatened to be used for non-agricultural purposes due to the demand for spatial growth and are opposed to the pressure of settlement. One of the agricultural areas under threat is the Mugla Plain. It is important to protect the Mugla Plain, which is an absolute agricultural land and at the same time constitute part of the natural and cultural landscape of the city, and to sustain the agricultural activities. Mugla Plain is designated as Special Project and Planning Area (OPA) in 1/25.000 Scale Master Plan; it was aimed to develop a project to preserve the original quality of the agricultural character of Plain in this frame. In this article, analyzes and proposals made within the scope of the idea project prepared for the section of Mugla Plain defined as "Special Project and Planning Area" are presented. In the proposals, it was aimed to protect the agricultural quality of the plains and to prevent the spread of the settlement by integrating the plain with the urban residents. Towards achieving this goal, it has been adopted to develop approaches dealt with under the heading of "urban agriculture". When we say "the mastery of the grammar", we refer to the mastery of rules which revolve around the structure of the language. The problem arises at that point, actually. In this paper, this problem is going to be dwelled upon analysing a language item. As a matter of fact, this language item can be regarded as a symbol of the problem mentioned above. This language item is "if clauses". "If clauses" are not so easy to cope with since they require a mastery of some structure accompanied with an appropriate situation. The problem arises here, because a clear-cut distinction between the types and usage are not always possible. We ought not to forget that grammar is not the fundamental of the target language, which consists of the finely tuned structural prescriptions only. Language is meaningful as long as it is contextualized. We cannot take over the use of language if it is presented in isolated exercises having a meaningful context. Comprehensive exercises are essential to teach "if clauses". In conclusion, in this paper I intend to suggest a semantic classification of "if clauses" so as to avoid overgeneralization which is a result of the classification of "if clauses" structurally. Making this suggestion, I would like to support it with examples from the works of literature as well. In the software developed by the authors, Evolutionary Algorithm method has been applied and university administration's specific improvement requests have also been taken into consideration while developing the software. The developed software has two parts: First part is about collecting data through the web application, and the second part is the application project, which calculates the final scheduling results. By utilizing the software, a considerable amount of time lost by manually preparing exam schedules will be saved. In addition, with the real-time connection to the student automation system database, numerous problems will be vanished, i.e. students/classes exam scheduling conflicts, etc. In the study, tables added to the current student automation system database have been explained. Additionally, by applying the genetic algorithm methods to the various parts of data have been examined along with the constraints used in the application, which are essential parts of the software. User interfaces have been designed with their sample instances. The analysis is based on a 4.98 fb(-1) sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, obtained with the CMS detector at the LHC. Three separate background estimation methods, each relying primarily on control samples in the data, are applied to a range of signal regions, providing complementary approaches for estimating the background yields. The observed yields are consistent with the predicted standard model backgrounds. The study uses the data sample collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1). Events with high jet multiplicity and a large scalar sum of jet transverse momenta are analyzed for the presence of resonances in the three-jet invariant mass spectrum. No evidence for a narrow resonance is found in the data, and limits are set on the cross section for gluino pair production in an R-parity-violating supersymmetry model, for gluino masses greater than 280 GeV. Assuming a branching fraction for gluino decay into three jets of 100%, gluino masses below 460 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level. This study investigated the role of XIST in neuronal development, neuroinflammation, myelination, and therapeutic responses within cerebral organoids in the context of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) pathogenesis. Methods: Human cerebral organoids with oligodendrocytes were produced from XIST-silenced H9 cells, and the mature organoids were subsequently treated with either FTY720 or DMF. Gene expression related to inflammation and myelination was subsequently analyzed via qRT-PCR. Immunofluorescence staining was used to assess the expression of proteins related to inflammation, myelination, and neuronal differentiation. Alpha-synuclein protein levels were also checked via ELISA. Finally, transcriptome analysis was conducted on the organoid samples. Results: XIST-silenced organoids presented a 2-fold increase in the expression of neuronal stem cells, excitatory neurons, microglia, and mature oligodendrocyte markers. In addition, XIST silencing increased IL-10 mRNA expression by 2-fold and MBP and PLP1 expression by 2.3- and 0.6-fold, respectively. Although XIST silencing tripled IBA1 protein expression, it did not affect organoid MBP expression. FTY720, but not DMF, distinguished MBP and IBA1 expression in XIST-silenced organoids. Furthermore, XIST silencing reduced the concentration of alpha-synuclein from 300 to 100 pg/mL, confirming its anti-inflammatory role. Transcriptomic and gene enrichment analyses revealed that the differentially expressed genes are involved in neural development and immune processes, suggesting the role of XIST in neuroinflammation. The silencing of XIST modified the expression of genes associated with inflammation, myelination, and neuronal growth in cerebral organoids, indicating a potential involvement in the pathogenesis of MS. Conclusions: XIST may contribute to the MS pathogenesis as well as neuroinflammatory diseases such as and Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases and may be a promising therapeutic target.
