Conference Object Upscaling Surface Flow Equations Depending Upon Data Availability at Different Scales(Springer Verlag, 2003) Tayfur, GökmenSt. Venant equations, which are used to model sheet flows, are point-scale, depth-averaged equations, requiring data on model parameters at a very fine scale. When data are available at the scale of a hillslope transect, the point equations need to be upscaled to conserve the mass and momentum at that scale, Hillslope-scale upscaled model must be developed if data are available at that scale. The performance of the three models applied to simulate flows from non-rilled surfaces revealed that the hillslope-scale upscaled model performs as good as the point-scale model though it uses far less data. The transectionally-upscaled model slightly underestimates the observed data.Conference Object Probing the Density of States of High Temperature Superconductors With Point Contact Tunneling Spectroscopy(Springer Verlag, 2005) Özyüzer, Lütfi; Zasadzinski, John F.; Miyakawa, Nobuaki; Gray, Kenneth E.Tunneling spectroscopy measurements are performed on single crystals of single CuO2 layer Tl2Ba2CuO6+delta, double CuO2 layer Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta (Bi2212) and polycrystal quadruple CuO2 layer CuBa2Ca3Cu4O12+delta using the point contact tunneling technique. I-V and dI/dV-V characteristics are obtained at 4.2 K. In spite of different number of layers and T-c values, all three high-T-c superconductors exhibit similar spectral features including dip and hump features reminiscent of strong-coupling effects in conventional superconductors. The doping dependence of Bi2212 is studied and several effects of the hole concentration on spectral features are found. A novel effect is that the energy gap increases in the underdoped region even as T-c decreases. Combining the doping dependence of the energy gap and the dip energy provides additional information in order to understand the mechanism of high-T-c superconductivity. Point contact tunneling studies of the doping dependence of the energy gap in Bi2212 also helped to understand local variations of the gap magnitude observed by scanning tunneling microscopy, indicating that this type of spectroscopy is an integral part of the tunneling technique.Conference Object Measure on Time Scales With Mathematica(Springer Verlag, 2006) Ufuktepe, Ünal; Yantır, AhmetIn this paper we study the Lebesgue Delta-measure on time scales. We refer to [3, 4] for the main notions and facts from the general measure and Lebesgue Delta integral theory. The objective of this paper is to show how the main concepts of Mathematica can be applied to fundamentals of Lebesgue Delta- and Lebesgue Delta- measure on an arbitrary time scale and also on a discrete time scale whose rule is given by the reader. As the time scale theory is investigated in two parts, by means of alpha and rho operators, we named the measures on time scales by the set function DMeasure and NMeasure respectively for arbitrary time scales.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 1Enterprise Systems Applications Development Plans To Build and Develop Robust and Environmentally Sensitive Green Logistics Systems Management Software(Springer Verlag, 2009) Yıldız, Türkay; Yercan, FundaWithin the concept of enterprise-wide development of environmentally sensitive systems' application modules to fully integrate all-in-one green logistics services principles have received much attention and consideration from practitioners, academia, and from the industry, for about more than a decade. However, by taking into the consideration of the multidisciplinary nature of the issue, large scale effective collaborative framework is needed to be developed. Therefore, utilization of UML diagrams, class definitions, defining class relationships, fields, tables, views, etc. so on play crucial roles in the design phases of the enterprise system. Thus, this article largely deals with the major logistics work processes and their interactions within the consideration of environmental engineering issues on business operations to address step-by-step process control mechanisms to provide necessary input to build robust-design and better implementation of the needed IT software backbone.Conference Object Solution of Navier-Stokes Equations Using Fem With Stabilizing Subgrid(Springer Verlag, 2010) Tezer-Sezgin, M.; Aydin, S. Han; Neslitürk, Ali İhsanThe Galerkin finite element method (FEM) is used for solving the incompressible Navier Stokes equations in 2D. Regular triangular elements are used to discretize the domain and the finite-dimensional spaces employed consist of piece wise continuous linear interpolants enriched with the residual-free bubble (RFB) functions. To find the bubble part of the solution, a two-level FEM with a stabilizing subgrid of a single node is described in our previous paper [Int. J. Numer. Methods Fluids 58, 551-572 (2007)]. The results for backward facing step flow and flow through 2D channel with an obstruction on the lower wall show that the proper choice of the subgrid node is crucial to get stable and accurate solutions consistent with the physical configuration of the problems at a cheap computational cost.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 2Exploration of a Practical Approach for Assessing the Measurement Capability of Software Organizations(Springer Verlag, 2017) Salmanoğlu, Murat; Demirörs, Onur; Coşkunçay, Ahmet; Yıldız, AliMeasurement is the foundation for successful software management. However, it is not easy for software organizations to evaluate their measurement practices and to determine what they should do to improve them. There are models to evaluate capability and maturity of measurement processes. However, they frequently focus on the measurement process in relation with a well-defined capability model like CMMI or SPICE. Organizations following recent agile methodologies do not desire to apply these holistic models. We have developed a model to assess measurement capability of software organizations by inspecting individual measures, independent from software development approach and process architecture. The model includes sample of core measures for aspects and defines generic practices for three capability levels. Organizations can use the model to determine and improve their measurement capability. In the paper, an exploratory case study conducted in a large telecommunication company is discussed and the results are evaluated.Book Part Citation - WoS: 93Graphene quantum dots preface(Springer Verlag, 2014) Güçlü, Alev Devrim; Potasz, Pawel; Korkusinski, Marek; Hawrylak, Pawel[No abstract available]Article Citation - WoS: 2On Cofinitely Weak Supplemented Modules(Springer Verlag, 2009) Büyükaşık, EnginFor a locally noetherian module, we prove some conditions equivalent to being cofinitely weak supplemented. Every semilocal module is cofinitely weak supplemented. For a module M with small radical, it is shown that M is weakly supplemented if and only if every cyclic submodule has a weak supplement. A commutative domain R is h-semilocal if and only if every torsion R-module is cofinitely weak supplemented.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 2Function Generation Synthesis of Planar Slider-Crank Linkages for Given 3 Positions and a Dead-Center Position(Springer Verlag, 2020) Kiper, Gokhan; Gorgulu, Ibrahimcan; Kucukoglu, Sefa FurkanFunction generation for finitely many positions and dead-center design problems are generally separately handled in the literature. This paper presents a mixed formulation for planar slider-crank linkages where three precision points and a folded or extended dead-center position are to be satisfied. The formulation results in an 8th degree univariate. Examples show that generally there are four real solutions, only two of which result in distinct solutions.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Development of a Proper Mix-Design for Impact Loading of Deflection Hardening Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Concrete(Springer Verlag, 2018) Alami, Muhammad Musa; Erdem, Tahir Kemal; Yardımcı, Mert Yücel; Aydın, SerdarThis study aims to develop a low-cost Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Concrete (HyFRC) that exhibits deflection hardening behavior under bending and has high energy absorption capacity under impact loading by determining proper combination of steel and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers. More than forty mixtures were prepared including two mixtures of conventional concrete, six mixtures of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC), and thirty-six mixtures of HyFRC. The design parameters were chosen as fly ash to cement ratio (1.2, 1.7 and 2.2), steel fiber type and amount (0.5%, 0.75%, and 1.25% by volume), PVA fiber amount (0.25% and 0.50% by volume), and maximum aggregate size (Dmax) of 8 mm and 16 mm. Several tests were carried out on fresh and hardened specimens such as bending, compression, and low-velocity flexural impact loading. Based on the results, it is found that the mixture with 0.75% steel fiber and 0.25% PVA showed the best performance for the aim of the study.
