Department of Energy Systems Engineering; 03. Faculty of Engineering; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyThis study presents a Geographic Information System (GIS) based suitable site selection methodology for a hybrid system that includes offshore wind and solar PV. The methodology utilizes open source databases about decision criteria and applies this data using GIS to determine suitable sites for offshore wind and solar PV systems. For the assessment of multi-criteria which affect the potential hybrid energy power plants and the determination of the best suitable areas, Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and Fuzzy Evaluation based on Distance Average Solution (FEDAS) are used in the study. Results show that technical criteria has the priority weight of 0.60 while the weight of social criteria is about 0.07. Among sub-criteria, the wind speed has the highest priority weight while distance to port and visibility are the highest criteria of priority weight under economic and social main criteria, respectively. Among the alternatives, Area 2 (A-2) is determined as the best alternative for hybrid offshore power plants in the study area. This proposed methodology can be utilized by decision-makers to determine the best suitable locations for hybrid offshore wind and solar PV systems at any location. This paper suggests a new approach integrating GIS, fuzzy setbased AHP and EDAS as a novelty. © 2023 International Energy InitiativeArticle Citation - WoS: 134Citation - Scopus: 136Electrically Switchable Metadevices Via Graphene(American Association for the Advancement of Science, 2018) Balcı, Osman; Balcı, Sinan; Karademir, Ertuğrul; Balcı, Sinan; Çakmakyapan, Semih; Polat, Emre O.; Çağlayan, Hümeyra; Özbay, Ekmel; Kocabaş, Çoşkun; 04.04. Department of Photonics; 04. Faculty of Science; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyMetamaterials bring subwavelength resonating structures together to overcome the limitations of conventional materials. The realization of active metadevices has been an outstanding challenge that requires electrically reconfigurable components operating over a broad spectrum with a wide dynamic range. However, the existing capability of metamaterials is not sufficient to realize this goal. By integrating passive metamaterials with active graphene devices, we demonstrate a new class of electrically controlled active metadevices working in microwave frequencies. The fabricated active metadevices enable efficient control of both amplitude (>50 dB) and phase (>90°) of electromagnetic waves. In this hybrid system, graphene operates as a tunable Drude metal that controls the radiation of the passive metamaterials. Furthermore, by integrating individually addressable arrays of metadevices, we demonstrate a new class of spatially varying digital metasurfaces where the local dielectric constant can be reconfigured with applied bias voltages. In addition, we reconfigure resonance frequency of split-ring resonators without changing its amplitude by damping one of the two coupled metasurfaces via graphene. Our approach is general enough to implement various metamaterial systems that could yield new applications ranging from electrically switchable cloaking devices to adaptive camouflage systems.Article Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 6Some Exact Solutions for Toda Type Lattice Differential Equations Using the Improved (g'/g)-expansion Method(John Wiley and Sons Inc., 2012) Aslan, İsmail; Aslan, İsmail; 04.02. Department of Mathematics; 04. Faculty of Science; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyNonlinear lattice differential equations (also known as differential-difference equations) appear in many applications. They can be thought of as hybrid systems for the inclusion of both discrete and continuous variables. On the basis of an improved version of the basic (G′/G)- expansion method, we focus our attention towards some Toda type lattice differential systems for constructing further exact traveling wave solutions. Our method provides not only solitary and periodic wave profiles but also rational solutions with more arbitrary parameters. © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
