Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2First Measurement of the Forward Rapidity Gap Distribution in Ppb Collisions at √snn=8.16 Tev(Amer Physical Soc, 2023) Karapınar, Güler; CMS Collaboration; Ambrogi, F.; Bergauer, T.; Dragicevic, M.; Ero, J.; Zhokin, A.For the first time at LHC energies, the forward rapidity gap spectra from proton-lead collisions for both proton and lead dissociation processes are presented. The analysis is performed over 10.4 units of pseudorapidity at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of ffisffi than in previous measurements of diffractive production in proton-nucleus collisions. For lead dissociation processes, which correspond to the pomeron-lead event topology, the EPOS-LHC generator predictions are a factor of 2 below the data, but the model gives a reasonable description of the rapidity gap spectrum shape. For the pomeron-proton topology, the EPOS-LHC, QGSJET II, and HIJING predictions are all at least a factor of 5 lower than the data. The latter effect might be explained by a significant contribution of ultraperipheral photoproduction events mimicking the signature of diffractive processes. These data may be of significant help in understanding the high energy limit of quantum chromodynamics and for modeling cosmic ray air showers.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 8Search for the Rare Decay of the W Boson Into a Pion and a Photon in Proton-Proton Collisions at S=13tev(Elsevier B.V., 2021) Sirunyan,A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan,A.; Adam,W.; Ambrogi,F.; Bergauer,T.; Dragicevic,M.; Chistov,R.A search is performed for the rare decay W±→π±γ in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV. Data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137fb−1 were collected during 2016 to 2018 with the CMS detector. This analysis exploits a novel search strategy based on W boson production in top quark pair events. An inclusive search for the W±→π±γ decay is not optimal at the LHC because of the high trigger thresholds. Instead, a trigger selection is exploited in which the W boson originating from one of the top quarks is used to tag the event in a leptonic decay. The W boson emerging from the other top quark is used to search for the W±→π±γ signature. Such decays are characterized by an isolated track pointing to a large energy deposit, and by an isolated photon of large transverse momentum. The presence of b quark jets reduces the background from the hadronization of light-flavor quarks and gluons. The W±→π±γ decay is not observed. An upper exclusion limit is set to this branching fraction, corresponding to 1.50×10−5 at 95% confidence level, whereas the expected upper exclusion limit is 0.85−0.29 +0.52×10−5. © 2021 The Author(s)Article Citation - WoS: 27Citation - Scopus: 63Evidence for Electroweak Production of Four Charged Leptons and Two Jets in Proton-Proton Collisions at S=13tev(Elsevier B.V., 2021) Sirunyan,A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan,A.; Adam,W.; Ambrogi,F.; Bergauer,T.; Dragicevic,M.; Chistov,R.Evidence is presented for the electroweak (EW) production of two jets (jj) in association with two Z bosons and constraints on anomalous quartic gauge couplings are set. The analysis is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV collected with the CMS detector in 2016–2018, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137fb−1. The search is performed in the fully leptonic final state ZZ→ℓℓℓ′ℓ′, where ℓ,ℓ′=e,μ. The EW production of two jets in association with two Z bosons is measured with an observed (expected) significance of 4.0 (3.5) standard deviations. The cross sections for the EW production are measured in three fiducial volumes and the result is σEW(pp→ZZjj→ℓℓℓ′ℓ′jj)=0.33−0.10 +0.11(stat)−0.03 +0.04(syst)fb in the most inclusive volume, in agreement with the standard model prediction of 0.275±0.021fb. Measurements of total cross sections for jj production in association with two Z bosons are also reported. Limits on anomalous quartic gauge couplings are derived in terms of the effective field theory operators T0, T1, T2, T8, and T9. © 2020 The Author(s)Article Citation - WoS: 29Citation - Scopus: 33Measurement of the Jet Mass in Highly Boosted T T ¯ Events From Pp Collisions at √s=8tev(Springer Nature, 2017) Sirunyan, A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Brandstetter, J.; Baillon, P.The first measurement of the jet mass mjet of top quark jets produced in t t ¯ events from pp collisions at s=8TeV is reported for the jet with the largest transverse momentum pT in highly boosted hadronic top quark decays. The data sample, collected with the CMS detector, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7fb-1. The measurement is performed in the lepton+jets channel in which the products of the semileptonic decay t → b W with W → ℓν where ℓ is an electron or muon, are used to select t t ¯ events with large Lorentz boosts. The products of the fully hadronic decay t → b W with W → q q ¯ ′ are reconstructed using a single Cambridge–Aachen jet with distance parameter R= 1.2 , and pT> 400 GeV. The t t ¯ cross section as a function of mjet is unfolded at the particle level and is used to test the modelling of highly boosted top quark production. The peak position of the mjet distribution is sensitive to the top quark mass mt, and the data are used to extract a value of mt to assess this sensitivity. © 2017, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.Article Citation - WoS: 28Citation - Scopus: 34Measurement of Bs0 meson production in pp and PbPb collisions at SNN=√5.02 TeV(Elsevier B.V., 2019) CMS Collaboration; Karapınar, GülerThe production cross sections of Bs 0 mesons and charge conjugates are measured in proton-proton (pp) and PbPb collisions via the exclusive decay channel Bs 0→J/ψϕ→μ+μ−K+K− at a center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair and within the rapidity range |y|<2.4 using the CMS detector at the LHC. The pp measurement is performed as a function of transverse momentum (pT) of the Bs 0 mesons in the range of 7 to 50 GeV/c and is compared to the predictions of perturbative QCD calculations. The Bs 0 production yield in PbPb collisions is measured in two pT intervals, 7 to 15 and 15 to 50 GeV/c, and compared to the yield in pp collisions in the same kinematic region. The nuclear modification factor (RAA) is found to be 1.5±0.6(stat)±0.5(syst) for 7–15 GeV/c, and 0.87±0.30(stat)±0.17(syst) for 15–50 GeV/c, respectively. Within current uncertainties, the Bs 0 results are consistent with models of strangeness enhancement, and suppression by parton energy loss, as observed for the B+ mesons. © 2019
