Article Citation - WoS: 26First Search for Exclusive Diphoton Production at High Mass With Tagged Protons in Proton-Proton Collisions at Root S=13 Tev(Amer Physical Soc, 2022) Tumasyan, A.; Karapınar, GülerA search for exclusive two-photon production via photon exchange in proton-proton collisions, pp -> p gamma gamma p with intact protons, is presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 9.4 fb(-1) collected in 2016 using the CMS and TOTEM detectors at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeVat the LHC. Events are selected with a diphoton invariant mass above 350 GeVand with both protons intact in the final state, to reduce backgrounds from strong interactions. The events of interest are those where the invariant mass and rapidity calculated from the momentum losses of the forward-moving protons match the mass and rapidity of the central, two-photon system. No events are found that satisfy this condition. Interpreting this result in an effective dimension-8 extension of the standard model, the first limits are set on the two anomalous four-photon coupling parameters. If the other parameter is constrained to its standard model value, the limits at 95% confidence level are vertical bar zeta(1)vertical bar < 2.9 x 10(-1)3 GeV-4 and vertical bar zeta(2)vertical bar < 6.0 x 10(-13) GeV-4.Article Citation - WoS: 40Observation of Electroweak Production of W Gamma With Two Jets in Proton-Proton Collisions at Root S=13 Tev(Elsevier, 2020) Karapınar, GülerA first observation is presented for the electroweak production of a W boson, a photon, and two jets in proton-proton collisions. The W boson decays are selected by requiring one identified electron or muon and an imbalance in transverse momentum. The two jets are required to have a high dijet mass and a large separation in pseudorapidity. The measurement is based on data collected with the CMS detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). The observed (expected) significance for this process is 4.9 (4.6) standard deviations. After combining with previously reported CMS results at 8 TeV, the observed (expected) significance is 5.3 (4.8) standard deviations. The cross section for the electroweak W gamma jj production in a restricted fiducial region is measured as 20.4 +/- 4.5 fb and the total cross section for W gamma production in association with 2 jets in the same fiducial region is 108 +/- 16 fb. All results are in good agreement with recent theoretical predictions. Constraints are placed on anomalous quartic gauge couplings in terms of dimension-8 effective field theory operators. The analysis is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV collected with the CMS detector in 2016–2018, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137fb−1. The search is performed in the fully leptonic final state ZZ→ℓℓℓ′ℓ′, where ℓ,ℓ′=e,μ. The EW production of two jets in association with two Z bosons is measured with an observed (expected) significance of 4.0 (3.5) standard deviations. The cross sections for the EW production are measured in three fiducial volumes and the result is σEW(pp→ZZjj→ℓℓℓ′ℓ′jj)=0.33−0.10 +0.11(stat)−0.03 +0.04(syst)fb in the most inclusive volume, in agreement with the standard model prediction of 0.275±0.021fb. Measurements of total cross sections for jj production in association with two Z bosons are also reported. Limits on anomalous quartic gauge couplings are derived in terms of the effective field theory operators T0, T1, T2, T8, and T9. © 2020 The Author(s)Article Citation - WoS: 96First Measurement of the Cross Section for Top-Quark Pair Production in Proton-Proton Collisions at Root S=7 Tev(Elsevier Ltd., 2011) Karapınar, GülerThe first measurement of the cross section for top-quark pair production in pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at center-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV has been performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.1 +/- 0.3 pb(-1) recorded by the CMS detector. This result utilizes the final state with two isolated, highly energetic charged leptons, large missing transverse energy, and two or more jets. Backgrounds from Drell-Yan and non-W/Z boson production are estimated from data. Eleven events are observed in the data with 2.1 +/- 1.0 events expected from background. The measured cross section is 194 +/- 72(stat.) +/- 24(syst.) +/- 21(lumi.) pb, consistent with next-to-leading order predictions. (C) 2010 CERN. Published by Elsevier B.V. Events with large total transverse energy are analyzed for the presence of multiple high-energy jets, leptons, and photons, typical of a signal expected from a microscopic black hole. Good agreement with the standard model backgrounds, dominated by QCD multijet production, is observed for various final-state multiplicities and model-independent limits on new physics in these final states are set. Using simple semi-classical approximation, limits on the minimum black hole mass are derived as well, in the range 3.5-4.5 TeV. These are the first direct limits on black hole production at a particle accelerator. (c) 2011 CERN. Published by Elsevier B.V. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1), recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. The measurement covers the dijet mass range 0.2 TeV to 3.5 TeV and jet rapidities up to vertical bar y vertical bar = 2.5. It is found to be in good agreement with next-to-leading-order QCD predictions. (C) 2011 CERN. Published by Elsevier B.V. The decay b' -> tW is considered in this search. The b'(b) over bar' tW-(t) over barW(+) process can be identified by the distinctive signature of trileptons and same-sign dileptons. With a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 34 pb(-1), no excess above the standard model background predictions is observed and a b' quark with a mass between 255 and 361 GeV/c(2) is excluded at the 95% confidence level. The data, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1). No significant excess of events above the standard model expectation is found in the transverse mass distribution of the muon-neutrino system. Masses below 1.40 TeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level for a sequential standard-model-like W'. The W' mass lower limit increases to 1.58 TeV when the present analysis is combined with the CMS result for the electron channel. (C) 2011 CERN. Published by Elsevier B.V. Results are based on a data sample recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1). The electron and muon decay channels of the W and Z are used. The total cross sections are measured for photon transverse energy E-T(gamma) > 10 GeV and spatial separation from charged leptons in the plane of pseudorapidity and azimuthal angle Delta R(l.gamma) > 0.7, and with an additional dilepton invariant mass requirement of M-ll > 50 GeV for the Z gamma process. The following cross section times branching fraction values are found: sigma(pp -> W gamma + X) x B(W -> lv) = 56.3 +/- 5.0(stat.) +/- 5.0(syst.) +/- 2.3(lumi.) pb and sigma(pp -> Z gamma + X) x B(Z -> ll) = 9.4 +/- 1.0(stat.) +/- 0.6(syst.) +/- 0.4(lumi.) pb. These measurements are in agreement with standard model predictions. The first limits on anomalous WW gamma, ZZ gamma, and Z gamma gamma trilinear gauge couplings at root s = 7 TeV are set. HT, in the range 0.2 < H-T < 2.5 TeV is presented. The data have been collected at a proton-proton centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1). Comparisons are made between the data and the predictions of different QCD-based Monte Carlo models for multijet production. All models considered in this study are consistent with the data for H-T > 0.5 TeV. This measurement extends to an H-T range that has not been explored before. (C) 2011 CERN.
