    Search for Supersymmetry in pp Collisions at √s=7 TeV in Events With a Single Lepton, Jets, and Missing Transverse Momentum

    Results are reported from a search for new physics processes in events containing a single isolated high-transverse-momentum lepton (electron or muon), energetic jets, and large missing transverse momentum. The analysis is based on a 4.98 fb(-1) sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, obtained with the CMS detector at the LHC. Three separate background estimation methods, each relying primarily on control samples in the data, are applied to a range of signal regions, providing complementary approaches for estimating the background yields. The observed yields are consistent with the predicted standard model backgrounds. The results are interpreted in terms of limits on the parameter space for the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, as well as on cross sections for simplified models, which provide a generic description of the production and decay of new particles in specific, topology based final states.

    Search for Three-Jet Resonances in pp Collisions at √s=7 TeV

    Results are reported from a search for the production of three-jet resonances in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV. The study uses the data sample collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1). Events with high jet multiplicity and a large scalar sum of jet transverse momenta are analyzed for the presence of resonances in the three-jet invariant mass spectrum. No evidence for a narrow resonance is found in the data, and limits are set on the cross section for gluino pair production in an R-parity-violating supersymmetry model, for gluino masses greater than 280 GeV. Assuming a branching fraction for gluino decay into three jets of 100%, gluino masses below 460 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.     Angular Analysis of the Decay B+ → K+μ+μ- in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s=8 TeV

    The angular distribution of the flavor-changing neutral current decay B+ -> K+mu(+)mu(-) is studied in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The analysis is based on data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.5 fb(-1). The forward-backward asymmetry A(FB) of the dimuon system and the contribution F-H from the pseudoscalar, scalar, and tensor amplitudes to the decay width are measured as a function of the dimuon mass squared. The measurements are consistent with the standard model expectations.

    Search for Supersymmetry in pp Collisions at √s=13 TeV in the Single-Lepton Final State Using the Sum of Masses of Large-Radius Jets

    Results are reported from a search for supersymmetric particles in proton-proton collisions in the final state with a single lepton, multiple jets, including at least one b-tagged jet, and large missing transverse momentum. The search uses a sample of proton-proton collision data at root s = 13 TeV recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). The observed event yields in the signal regions are consistent with those expected from standard model backgrounds. The results are interpreted in the context of simplified models of supersymmetry involving gluino pair production, with gluino decay into either on- or off-mass-shell top squarks. Assuming that the top squarks decay into a top quark plus a stable, weakly interacting neutralino, scenarios with gluino masses up to about 1.9 TeV are excluded at 95% confidence level for neutralino masses up to about 1 TeV.

    Observation of Same-Sign Ww Production From Double Parton Scattering in Proton-Proton Collisions at P S=13 Tev

    The first observation of the production of (WW +/-)-W-+/- bosons from double parton scattering processes using same-sign electron-muon and dimuon events in proton-proton collisions is reported. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb(-1 )recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV using the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. Multivariate discriminants are used to distinguish the signal process from the main backgrounds. A binned maximum likelihood fit is performed to extract the signal cross section. The measured cross section for production of same-sign W bosons decaying leptonically is 80.7 +/- 11.2(stat)( -8.6)(+9.5)(syst) +/- 12.1(model) fb, whereas the measured fiducial cross section is 6.28 +/- 0.81(stat) +/- 0.69(syst) +/- 0.37(model) fb. The observed significance of the signal is 6.2 standard deviations above the background-only hypothesis.

    Two-Particle Azimuthal Correlations in Γp Interactions Using Ppb Collisions at √snn=8.16 Tev

    The first measurements of the Fourier coefficients (V-n Delta) of the azimuthal distributions of charged hadrons emitted from photon-proton (gamma p) interactions are presented. The data are extracted from 68.8nb(-1) of ultra-peripheral proton-lead (pPb) collisions at root s(NN)= 8.16 TeV using the CMS detector. The high energy lead ions produce a flux of photons that can interact with the oncoming proton. This gamma p system provides a set of unique initial conditions with multiplicity lower than in photon-lead collisions but comparable to recent electron-positron and electron-proton data. The V-n Delta coefficients are presented in ranges of event multiplicity and transverse momentum (p(T)) and are compared to corresponding hadronic minimum bias pPb results. For a given multiplicity range, the mean p(T) of charged particles is smaller in gamma p than in pPb collisions. For both the gamma p and pPb samples, V-1 Delta is negative, V-2 Delta is positive, and V-3 Delta consistent with 0. For each multiplicity and p(T) range, V-2 Delta is larger for gamma p events.     Measurement of Differential Cross Sections for the Production of a Z Boson in Association With Jets in Proton-Proton Collisions at P S=13 Tev

    A measurement is presented of the production of Z bosons that decay into two electrons or muons in association with jets, in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data were cross sections are measured as a function of the transverse momentum (pT) of the Z boson and the transverse momentum and rapidities of the five jets with largest pT. The jet multiplicity distribution is measured for up to eight jets. The hadronic activity in the events is estimated using the scalar sum of the pT of all the jets. All measurements are unfolded to the stable-particle level and compared with predictions from various Monte Carlo event generators, as well as with expectations at leading and next-to-leading orders in perturbative quantum chromodynamics.

    Search for Cp Violating Top Quark Couplings in Pp Collisions at √s = 13 Tev

    Results are presented from a search for CP violation in top quark pair production, using proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data used for this analysis consist of final states with two charged leptons collected by the CMS experiment, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The search uses two observables, O1 and O3, which are Lorentz scalars. The observable O1 is constructed from the four-momenta of the charged leptons and the reconstructed top quarks, while O3 consists of the four-momenta of the charged leptons and the b quarks originating from the top quarks. Asymmetries in these observables are sensitive to CP violation, and their measurement is used to determine the chromoelectric dipole moment of the top quark.
