These modules are termed as “simple-direct-injective” and “simple-direct-projective,” respectively. In this paper, we give a complete characterization of the aforementioned modules over the ring of integers and over semilocal rings. The ring is semilocal if and only if every right module with zero Jacobson radical is simple-direct-projective. The rings whose simple-direct-injective right modules are simple-direct-projective are fully characterized. These are exactly the left perfect right H-rings. The rings whose simple-direct-projective right modules are simple-direct-injective are right max-rings. For a commutative Noetherian ring, we prove that simple-direct-projective modules are simple-direct-injective if and only if simple-direct-injective modules are simple-direct-projective if and only if the ring is Artinian. Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) Campus is taken as a case study. Various heat pump and boiler configurations are studied to meet required duty. Operational cost analysis for each alternative is conducted. According to the results, for IZTECH Campus the best alternative, which gives the optimum indoor air temperature and the lowest operational cost, is heat pump continuous regime.Article Citation - WoS: 18Citation - Scopus: 19A Suppressed Demand Analysis Method of the Transportation Disadvantaged in Policy Making(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2009) Duvarcı, Yavuz; Mizokami, ShoshiThis paper proposes a method for estimating transportation supply requirements when the suppressed demand of the transportation disadvantaged (TD) can be calculated and added to existing demand for travel. The underlying assumption is that the travel conditions of these TD groups must be equal to the 'conventional' demand, known as 'full release'. Utilising the modelling approach for TD, suppressed demand analysis, diagnosis of difficulties and equity between conventional and disadvantaged groups were realised, while elaborating special cases for the most vulnerable TD groups (such as elderly and disabled persons) and simultaneously identifying areas of difficulty. From the early virtual results, it is concluded that, for the full release of suppressed trips (only a 5% increase), policy makers must be ready to face some financial burdens, requiring coordination of effort to both standardise these TD groups and reduce the costs incurred by operators.Article Citation - WoS: 14Citation - Scopus: 15Photon Mapping in Image-Based Visual Comfort Assessments With Bsdf Models of High Resolution(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2019) Grobe, Lars OliverData-driven models replicate the irregular Bidirectional Scattering Distribution Functions (BSDFs) of optically Complex Fenestration Systems in daylight simulation. RADIANCE employs the tensor tree to store the BSDF at high directional resolution. Its application in backward ray-tracing is however challenging, since the density of stochastic samples must match the model resolution. BSDF proxy and peak extraction address this problem, but are limited to cases when either the fenestration geometry, or the shape and direction of the transmission peak are known. Photon Mapping is proposed to efficiently sample arbitrary BSDFs from the known sun direction. The existing implementation in RADIANCE is extended to account for light sources and their reflections in the field of view, that are of particular importance for visual comfort assessments. In view of a subsequent biological treatment, 15 and 180 min irradiation times were chosen in accordance with spectrophotometric and LC-MS/MS results that indicated the decrease in the COD/TOC ratio during photocatalysis. Pre-treatment led to a quick decrease in concentration of 2,4-D and COD during the biological process: a 78.79 ± 0.30% COD removal and 38.23 ± 3.12% 2,4-D elimination was measured after 5760 min in A-BR, and 80.89 ± 0.81% COD and 81.36 ± 1.37% 2,4-D removal was achieved after 2880 min in P-B. For species identification using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI)-time of flight (TOF)-TOF/MS equipment, Aeromonas eucrenophila, Stenotrophomonas acidaminiphila, Ralstonia pickettii, Sphingobacterium multivorum and Acinetobacter towneri were identified with high accuracy, and they play important roles in the degradation of 2,4-D.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Dovecotes in Kayabağ Village: an Assessment of Landscape and Architectural Characteristics(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2020) İnceköse, ÜlküThe dovecotes of Kayseri-Gesi stand out as unique examples of indigenous architecture of Anatolia. They are considered significant elements of the rural landscape. The purpose of the construction, the constructional and spatial characteristics peculiar to these dovecotes, make them an important element of global cultural and architectural heritage. Dovecotes that are built upon rocks, with mere building stones provided from the same rocks, look like a shaped form of the topography itself. This is very much to do with the geological features of the Cappadocia Region where Kayseri is located. In terms of construction techniques and spatial organization, the dramatic differences in the dovecotes’ underground and aboveground parts make them even more outstanding. This research is based on the field studies conducted in the dovecotes of Kayabağ. The landscape was studied in all aspects and each dovecote is studied for its placement, topographical interactions, plan and section typologies, materiality and construction techniques. The structural problems stemmed from the geological features and the deterioration caused by external factors are taken into consideration. The study concludes with an overall approach for preservation, sustainability and conservation process of the heritage landscape of Dovecotes [Güvercinlik] of Kayabağ.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 3Feasible Packing of Granular Materials in Discrete-Element Modelling of Cone-Penetration Testing(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2018) Ecemiş, Nurhan; Bakunowicz, PaulinaThis paper explores how the discrete-element method (DEM) was found to play an increasingly important role in cone penetration test (CPT) where continuum-mechanics-based analysis tools are insufficient. We investigated several crucial features of CPT simulations in the two-dimensional DEM. First, the microparameters (stiffness and friction) of discrete material tailored to mimic clean, saturated sand, which is used in cone-penetration tests, were calibrated by curve-fitting drained triaxial tests. Then, three series of cone-penetration simulations were conducted to explore (1) top boundary conditions, (2) reasonable size of discrete particles at different initial porosities, and (3) limit initial porosity of the model for a balance between accurate representation and computational efficiency. Further, we compared the cone-penetration resistance obtained in the laboratory and numerical simulations for the range of relative densities.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 3Determination of Arsenic by Hydride Generation—laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy: Characterization of Interelement Interferences(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2018) Bölek, Deniz; Ünal Yeşiller, Semira; Yalçın, ŞerifeIn this study, interelement interferences were evaluated for the determination of arsenic in aqueous samples through laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) hyphenated with a hydride generation sample introduction system. Optimum instrumental and chemical parameters were selected and variation in LIBS signal intensity was recorded for As solution in the presence of comparable concentrations of interfering elements. No significant change in the signal intensity of As(I) 228.8 nm line was observed in the presence of alkali/alkali earth metals; however, the presence of hydride-forming elements has shown a noticeable decrease in the line emission strength of arsenic. The least variation in arsenic signal was observed in the presence of Ge, the most volatile of all. However, the signal has decreased to a greater extent in the presence of Sn, Sb, and Pb. The presence of interfering elements on electron temperature and electron number density of arsenic plasma has also been studied. Plasma temperatures calculated using both As and Ar emission lines in the Boltzmann equation were similar, being around 5000 K. The McWhirter criterion for stationary and homogenous plasmas was utilized for the establishment of the local thermodynamic equilibrium under the plasma conditions studied. Applicability of the technique for multielemental analysis of water samples was tested through spiking experiments. Arsenic signal showed 26% decrease in the multielemental mixture solution. LIBS is among a few atomic spectroscopic techniques that facilitate rapid and simultaneous multielemental analysis without extensive sample preparation steps. However, the analytical performance of the technique still requires more serious efforts to compete with other conventional techniques for routine analysis of environmental samples.
