Article Military Intelligence Deeds in the Reports of Izmir British Consulate General (1878-1914)(Ege Univ, 2011) Aditatar, FundaFrom 1825 up to the late nineteenth century the British Levant Consular Service developed highly parallel with the policy of Britain in the Ottoman Empire. During the protection policy of the Ottoman territory which continued until the 1870s, political and commercial aspects of consular services has been formulated almost an equal level. Instead of protecting the territorial integrity of the Empire after the Berlin Treaty of 1878 turned into a controlled sharing and consuls began press to served heavily political direction. The aim of this paper is to evaluate reports of Izmir British Consulate about military intelligence. The voluminous reports of the consulate related with the military intelligence. Delphi yöntemine göre yakınsama sağlanmış etkiler, sonrasında daha anlamlı ve özet sonuçlar elde etmek amacıyla toplamdaki etkiler yöntemiyle yeniden değerlendirilmiştir. Yönteme göre, mutlak toplam etkilere (MED), net toplam etkilere (NED) ve en genel anlamda etki yeterlik düzeylerine bakılarak genel sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır. En etkili (olumlu/olumsuz yönde) projeler, bütünleştirilmiş raylı toplu taşıma sistemi, mevcut İzmir limanının geliştirilmesi; en fazla etkilenen sosyoekonomik eğilimler ise turizm sektöründeki gelişim, ekonomik gelişme, hava kirliliği ve özel araç kullanım oranı olarak çıkmıştır.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 1Primary Schools of İzmir (1923-1950)(Middle East Technical University, 2012) Kul, Fatma NurşenThis study aims to identify primary school buildings constructed inIzmir between the years 1923 and 1950 and understand them withinthe national context and its reflection on the local. For this purpose, thenational primary education system and school construction policies wereresearched, and their local reflections were discussed through the specificcase of Izmir. The results of this research demonstrate that the national policies,instigating the extension of school buildings throughout the country, weresuccessfully implemented in Izmir, and contrary to numerous other cities,new school buildings were constructed homogenously not only in thecity and sub-province centers but also in the villages. This meant that, awide spectrum of schools differing in their scales and qualities, rangingfrom multi-spaced city and sub-province schools built in highly populatedareas to single-spaced village schools constructed in settlements of lowpopulation levels were built in Izmir. Detailed archival research, sitesurveys and literature reviews showed that 500 new primary schools werebuilt in 1923-1950, 99 of which provided information in more detail in theform of visual and written documents. Based on this data, it was possible toestablish the type of projects that were implemented in Izmir, the designingpersons or institutions, their design criteria and the school constructionprocesses
