The characterization of the ceramics prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method were done by resistance-temperature measurements, XRD, SEM and density analysis. Low levels of Zn substitution of Ca caused significant changes in the properties of the ceramics. The low-T c superconducting properties were enhanced and the fraction of the low-T c (2212) phase were found to increase at x=0.15 level of Zn substitution at 830°C sintering temperature. Zero resistance was observed only in sample D with x=0.15 and the T c was determined as 92 K. The SEM micrographs and the density analysis have shown that this was the densest packed ceramic.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 4Phase Formation and Microstructure of Nd +3 Doped Pb(mg 1/3nb 2/3)o 3 Prepared by Sol-Gel Method(Springer Verlag, 2008) Şakar-Deliormanlı, Aylin; Polat, Mehmet; Çelik, Erdal; Şakar Deliormanlı, Aylin Müyesser; Polat, MehmetThe aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the rare earth element neodymium on the phase formation and microstructural development of relaxor ferroelectric lead magnesium niobate, Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3)O 3 (PMN) system. Perovskite phase PMN powders were prepared using the sol - gel method and the effect of neodymium doping was investigated at different doping levels ranging from 0.1 mol% to 30 mol%. The precursors employed in the sol - gel process were lead (II) acetate, magnesium ethoxide, and niobium (V) ethoxide. All the experiments were performed at room temperature while the calcination temperatures ranged between 800 °C and 1,100 °C. Results showed that it was possible to obtain the pure perovskite phase at 950 °C using the sol - gel method. Nd +3 addition influenced the phase formation and microstructure of the multicomponent system. Pyrochlore was detected along with the perovskite phase above 10 mol% Nd. The water sorption isotherms of the films were measured using a magnetic suspension balance. The apparent activation energies of wax decomposition in nitrogen and air atmospheres were determined as 76 and 37 kJ mol-1, respectively applying Kissinger method to TG data. The degradation rate constants of paraffin containing zinc stearate (0.1-0.5%) were found to be almost two times greater than that of paraffin only in air atmosphere. The insoluble and transparent films were subjected to scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses to show the morphological changes. Thermal analysis of complex films was determined by a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The changes in the crystalline state were monitored by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). It was shown that the complexation between HA and SF was dominantly induced by pH. Parent mineral of different sizes were heated up to 1000°C with heating rate of 2 and 10°C min -1 using differential thermal analyzer (DTA) and thermogravimetric analyzer (TG). Ag exchange was conducted both in conventional constant temperature waterbath and microwave at 40, 60 and 80°C. The exchanged minerals were then characteized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), DTA and TG. The particle size and heating rate do not have significant effect on the thermal behavior of the parent mineral and no structural changes were observed with Ag exchange, only decomposition temperature was lowered. Thermal analysis data obtained by TG/DSC was used to evaluate the dehydration behavior of the zeolites. The strongest interaction with water and the highest dehydration enthalpy (ΔH) value were found for Li-exchanged form and compared with the other forms. The temperature required for complete dehydration increased with decreasing cation size (cation size: K+>Ce3+>Ca2+>Na+>Li +). CO2 adsorption at 5 and 25°C was also studied and the virial model equation was used to analyze the experimental data to calculate the Henry's law constant, K o and isosteric heat of adsorption at zero loading Q st. K o values decreased with increasing temperature and the highest Qst was obtained for K rich zeolite. In this study, the waste samples, which contain tartaric acid, from the wastes of wine and grape juice industries were characterized by using TG, DSC, FTIR and XRD techniques. HPLC was used to determine tartaric acid content of samples. The decomposition temperatures of waste samples were found to be relatively higher compared with that of pure tartaric acid. This difference in decomposition temperatures was attributed to the presence of potassium tartrate since high potassium content was detected with ICP-AES.
