Article Citation - WoS: 11Citation - Scopus: 13Effect of Cnt Incorporation on Pan/Ppy Nanofibers Synthesized by Electrospinning Method(TÜBİTAK, 2020) İnce Yardımcı, Atike; Tanoğlu, Metin; Yılmaz, Selahattin; Selamet, YusufIn this study, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) added polyacrylonitrile/polypyrrole (PAN/PPy) electrospun nanofibers were produced. Average diameters of the nanofibers were measured as 268 and 153 nm for 10 and 25 wt% of PPy contents, respectively. A relatively higher strain to failure values (23.3%) were observed for the low PPy content. When as-grown CNTs (1 and 4 wt%) were added into the PAN/PPy blends, disordered nanofibers were observed to form within the microstructure. To improve the interfacial properties of CNTs/PAN/PPy composites, CNTs were functionalized with H2SO4/HNO3/HCl solution. The functionalized CNTs were well dispersed within the nanofibers and aligned along the direction of nanofibers. Therefore, beads formation on nanofibers decreased. The impedance of the nanofibers was found to decrease with the PPy content and CNT addition. These nanofibers had a great potential to be used as an electrochemical actuator or a tissue engineering scaffold.Article Citation - WoS: 28Citation - Scopus: 31The Effects of Catalyst Pretreatment, Growth Atmosphere and Temperature on Carbon Nanotube Synthesis Using Co-mo/Mgo Catalyst(Elsevier Ltd., 2015) İnce Yardımcı, Atike; Yılmaz, Selahattin; Selamet, YusufThe growth of high quality and high yield carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of CH4 over Co-Mo/MgO catalyst was investigated for different growth temperatures and H2 flow rates. It was observed that CNT yield decreased with the H2 flow rate, however, quality increased with increasing H2 flow rate. CNT yield increased for the temperatures 850-950 °C but dropped significantly above 950 °C. In this study, the highest yield of 1526% was obtained at the growth temperature of 950 °C. The optimum H2 flow rate was 200 sccm; this rate gave both high graphitization and high yield of product. Various CNT growth atmospheres including Ar, H2 and the mixture of both gases were also analyzed and it was observed that the highest quality CNTs were obtained for both pretreatment and growth carried out with H2. This gave a high yield of 292%. On the other hand, CNT growth carried out under Ar atmosphere gave higher CNT yield of 368%, however, the CNTs grown with Ar were more defective and had larger diameters. Prime novelty statement We demonstrate a sorbitol added catalysis synthesis method and importance of the ideal growth conditions to improve high quality single walled carbon nanotube yield up to 1500%.Article Citation - WoS: 10Citation - Scopus: 10Morphology, Order, Light Transmittance, and Water Vapor Permeability of Aluminum-Coated Polypropylene Zeolite Composite Films(John Wiley and Sons Inc., 2011) Balköse, Devrim; Oğuz, Kaan; Özyüzer, Lütfi; Tarı, Süleyman; Arkış, Esen; Özmıhçı Ömürlü, FilizIn this study, the polypropylene-zeolite composite films having 2-6 wt % natural zeolite were coated with a thin film of aluminum (Al) by magnetron sputtering, and the contribution of the Al coating on film properties was investigated. The samples were characterized by EDX, X-ray diffraction, SEM, AFM, UV-visible spectroscopy, and water vapor permeation analyses. The surface of the films coated with a smooth Al film having 98-131 nm thickness. EDX revealed that Al percentage on the surface appeared to be as 8-10 wt % indicating contribution of polymer surface under Al film to analysis. XRD analysis showed that the grain size of Al at the surface was 22-29 nm. The surface roughness increased after Al-coating process. The transmission of coated films was very low for both UV and visible regions of the light spectrum. Permeation analysis indicated that water vapor permeation was lower for Al-coated material.Article Citation - WoS: 10Citation - Scopus: 11The Effects of Sb Substitution on Structural Properties in Yba 2cu 3o 7 Superconductors(Springer Verlag, 2011) Akyüz, Gönül B.; Kocabaş, Kemal; Yıldız, Aylin; Özyüzer, Lütfi; Çiftçioglu, MuhsinIn this study, the effects of partial Sb 3+ ion substitutions for the Y sites and the Cu sites on the superconducting properties of YBa 2Cu 3O y (Y123) ceramic superconductors were investigated. The samples were prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method and the properties of the samples were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, AC magnetic susceptibility measurements, scanning electron microscope, and energy dispersive X-ray analysis. The critical temperatures were determined to be in the range of 80-92 K for both Systems I and II. It was found that Sb-addition leads to the formation of the non-superconducting YBa 2SbO 6 phase, which has a negative effect on the critical temperature, since the highest critical temperature was measured for pure Y123. However, the increasing substitution level has a negligible effect on the X-ray diffraction analysis peak intensities of the superconducting phases. In addition, SEM images showed that Sb substitution decreases the grain size and modifies the microstructure development, which makes the samples denser.Article Citation - WoS: 20Citation - Scopus: 23Effect of Humidity on Electrical Conductivity of Zinc Stearate Nanofilms(Elsevier Ltd., 2007) Öztürk, Serdar; Balköse, Devrim; Okur, Salih; Umemura, JunzoIn this work, stearic acid (StAc) and zinc stearate (ZnSt2) nanofilms were deposited on glass and silver substrates using Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film technique and their structural and electrical properties were investigated. X-ray diffraction and IR techniques revealed that more crystalline and better films were obtained from ZnSt2 compare to StAc. Electrical conductivity of ZnSt2 LB films with 13 layers having 28 nm thickness were measured in the range of humidity of 20-60% and it is seen that the conductivity was very sensitive to relative humidity (RH) above 40% at 25 °C and showed no hysteresis during adsorption and desorption of water vapor. Water vapor adsorption isotherm of ZnSt2 powders was determined and conductivity increase with humidity was attributed to water vapor adsorption. Constant electrical conductivity of the ZnSt2 films at low relative humidities and at low voltage values is an advantageous property which allows using them as organic nanofilms with insulating properties.
