Evidence of B-Jet Quenching in PbPb Collisions at √sNN=2.76 TeV
    (American Physical Society, 2014) Chatrchyan, S.; Khachatryan, V.; Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Bergauer, T.; Smith, W. H.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
The production of jets associated to bottom quarks is measured for the first time in PbPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair. Jet spectra are reported in the transverse momentum (p(T)) range of 80-250 GeV/c, and within pseudorapidity |eta| < 2. The nuclear modification factor (RAA) calculated from these spectra shows a strong suppression in the b-jet yield in PbPb collisions relative to the yield observed in pp collisions at the same energy. The suppression persists to the largest values of p(T) studied, and is centrality dependent. The R-AA is about 0.4 in the most central events, similar to previous observations for inclusive jets. This implies that jet quenching does not have a strong dependence on parton mass and flavor in the jet p(T) range studied.

    Measurement of J /Ψ and Ψ (2s) Prompt Double-Differential Cross Sections in Pp Collisions at S =7tev
(American Physical Society, 2015) Khachatryan, V.; Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Bergauer, T.; Dragicevic, M.; Innocente, V.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
The double-differential cross sections of promptly produced J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are measured in pp collisions at s=7TeV, as a function of transverse momentum pT and absolute rapidity |y|. The analysis uses J/ψ and ψ(2S) dimuon samples collected by the CMS experiment, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 4.55 and 4.90fb-1, respectively. The results are based on a two-dimensional analysis of the dimuon invariant mass and decay length, and extend to pT=120 and 100 GeV for the J/ψ and ψ(2S), respectively, when integrated over the interval |y|<1.2. The ratio of the ψ(2S) to J/ψ cross sections is also reported for |y|<1.2, over the range 10<pT<100GeV. These are the highest pT values for which the cross sections and ratio have been measured. © 2015 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration.

Limits on the Higgs Boson Lifetime and Width From Its Decay To Four Charged Leptons
(American Physical Society, 2015) Khachatryan, V.; Khachatryan, V.; Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Soares, M.S.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
Constraints on the lifetime and width of the Higgs boson are obtained from H→ZZ→4ℓ events using data recorded by the CMS experiment during the LHC run 1 with an integrated luminosity of 5.1 and 19.7fb-1 at a center-of-mass energy of 7 and 8 TeV, respectively. The measurement of the Higgs boson lifetime is derived from its flight distance in the CMS detector with an upper bound of τH<1.9×10-13s at the 95% confidence level (C.L.), corresponding to a lower bound on the width of ΓH>3.5×10-9MeV. The measurement of the width is obtained from an off-shell production technique, generalized to include anomalous couplings of the Higgs boson to two electroweak bosons. From this measurement, a joint constraint is set on the Higgs boson width and a parameter fΛQ that expresses an anomalous coupling contribution as an on-shell cross-section fraction. The limit on the Higgs boson width is ΓH<46MeV with fΛQ unconstrained and ΓH<26MeV for fΛQ=0 at the 95% C.L. The constraint fΛQ<3.8×10-3 at the 95% C.L. is obtained for the expected standard model Higgs boson width. © 2015 CERN, for the CMS. Published by the American Physical Society.

Search for Lepton Flavour Violating Decays of the Higgs Boson To Eτ and Eμ in Proton–proton Collisions at S=8 Tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2016) Khachatryan, V.; Karapınar, Güler; Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Trevisani, N.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
A direct search for lepton flavour violating decays of the Higgs boson (H) in the H→eτ and H→eμ channels is described. The data sample used in the search was collected in proton–proton collisions at s=8 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1. No evidence is found for lepton flavour violating decays in either final state. Upper limits on the branching fractions, B(H→eτ)<0.69% and B(H→eμ)<0.035%, are set at the 95% confidence level. The constraint set on B(H→eτ) is an order of magnitude more stringent than the existing indirect limits. The limits are used to constrain the corresponding flavour violating Yukawa couplings, absent in the standard model. © 2016 The Author(s)

Measurement of the Zγ→νν‾γ production cross section in pp collisions at s=8 TeV and limits on anomalous ZZγ and Zγγ trilinear gauge boson couplings
    (Elsevier B.V., 2016) Khachatryan, V.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Josa, M.I.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
An inclusive measurement of the Zγ→νν‾γ production cross section in pp collisions at s=8TeV is presented, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 fb−1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. This measurement is based on the observation of events with large missing energy and with a single photon with transverse momentum above 145GeV and absolute pseudorapidity in the range |η|<1.44. The measured Zγ→νν‾γ production cross section, 52.7±2.1 (stat)±6.4 (syst)±1.4 (lumi) fb, agrees well with the standard model prediction of 50.0−2.2 +2.4 fb. A study of the photon transverse momentum spectrum yields the most stringent limits to date on the anomalous ZZγ and Zγγ trilinear gauge boson couplings. © 2016 The Author(s)

ϒ(ns) Polarizations Versus Particle Multiplicity in Pp Collisions at S=7 Tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2016) Khachatryan, V.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Flix, J.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
The polarizations of the ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), and ϒ(3S) mesons are measured as a function of the charged particle multiplicity in proton–proton collisions at s=7 TeV. The measurements are performed with a dimuon data sample collected in 2011 by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 fb−1. The results are extracted from the dimuon decay angular distributions, in two ranges of ϒ(nS) transverse momentum (10–15 and 15–35 GeV), and in the rapidity interval |y|>1.2. The results do not show significant changes from low- to high-multiplicity pp collisions, although large uncertainties preclude definite statements in the ϒ(2S) and ϒ(3S) cases. © 2016 The Author(s)

    The Cms Trigger System
(Institute of Physics, 2017) Khachatryan, V.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; de Trocóniz, J.F.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
This paper describes the CMS trigger system and its performance during Run 1 of the LHC. The trigger system consists of two levels designed to select events of potential physics interest from a GHz (MHz) interaction rate of proton-proton (heavy ion) collisions. The first level of the trigger is implemented in hardware, and selects events containing detector signals consistent with an electron, photon, muon, τ lepton, jet, or missing transverse energy. A programmable menu of up to 128 object-based algorithms is used to select events for subsequent processing. The trigger thresholds are adjusted to the LHC instantaneous luminosity during data taking in order to restrict the output rate to 100 kHz, the upper limit imposed by the CMS readout electronics. The second level, implemented in software, further refines the purity of the output stream, selecting an average rate of 400 Hz for offline event storage. The objectives, strategy and performance of the trigger system during the LHC Run 1 are described. © CERN 2017 for the benefit of the CMS collaboration..

Search for High-Mass Diphoton Resonances in Proton–proton Collisions at 13 Tev and Combination With 8 Tev Search
    (Elsevier B.V., 2017) Khachatryan, V.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Elumakhov, D.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
A search for the resonant production of high-mass photon pairs is presented. The search focuses on spin-0 and spin-2 resonances with masses between 0.5 and 4.5 TeV, and with widths, relative to the mass, between 1.4×10−4 and 5.6×10−2. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 12.9 fb−1 of proton–proton collisions collected with the CMS detector in 2016 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No significant excess is observed relative to the standard model expectation. The results of the search are combined statistically with those previously obtained in 2012 and 2015 at s=8 and 13 TeV, respectively, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 19.7 and 3.3 fb−1, to derive exclusion limits on scalar resonances produced through gluon–gluon fusion, and on Randall–Sundrum gravitons. The lower mass limits for Randall–Sundrum gravitons range from 1.95 to 4.45 TeV for coupling parameters between 0.01 and 0.2. These are the most stringent limits on Randall–Sundrum graviton production to date. © 2017 The Author

Search for Top Squark Pair Production in Compressed-Mass Scenarios in Proton-Proton Collisions at S=8 Tev Using the Αt Variable
    (Elsevier B.V., 2017) Khachatryan, V.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Cabrillo, I.J.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
An inclusive search is performed for supersymmetry in final states containing jets and an apparent imbalance in transverse momentum, p→T miss, due to the production of unobserved weakly interacting particles in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data, recorded with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 18.5 fb−1. The dimensionless kinematic variable αT is used to discriminate between events with genuine p→T miss associated with unobserved particles and spurious values of p→T miss arising from jet energy mismeasurements. No excess of event yields above the expected standard model backgrounds is observed. The results are interpreted in terms of constraints on the parameter space of several simplified models of supersymmetry that assume the pair production of top squarks. The search provides sensitivity to a broad range of top squark (t˜) decay modes, including the two-body decay t˜→cχ˜1°, where c is a charm quark and χ˜1° is the lightest neutralino, as well as the four-body decay t˜→bff¯′χ˜1°, where b is a bottom quark and f and f¯′ are fermions produced in the decay of an intermediate off-shell W boson. These modes dominate in scenarios in which the top squark and lightest neutralino are nearly degenerate in mass. For these modes, top squarks with masses as large as 260 and 225 GeV are excluded, respectively, for the two- and four-body decays. © 2017 The Author

Suppression of ϒ(1s), ϒ(2s), and ϒ(3s) Quarkonium States in Pbpb Collisions at Snn=2.76tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2017) Khachatryan, V.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Gomez, G.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
The production yields of ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), and ϒ(3S) quarkonium states are measured through their decays into muon pairs in the CMS detector, in PbPb and pp collisions at the centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 2.76 TeV. The data correspond to integrated luminosities of 166μb−1 and 5.4pb−1 for PbPb and pp collisions, respectively. Differential production cross sections are reported as functions of ϒ rapidity y up to 2.4, and transverse momentum pT up to 20GeV/c. A strong centrality-dependent suppression is observed in PbPb relative to pp collisions, by factors of up to ≈2 and 8, for the ϒ(1S) and ϒ(2S) states, respectively. No significant dependence of this suppression is observed as a function of y or pT. The ϒ(3S) state is not observed in PbPb collisions, which corresponds to a suppression for the centrality-integrated data by at least a factor of ≈7 at a 95% confidence level. The observed suppression is in agreement with theoretical scenarios modeling the sequential melting of quarkonium states in a quark gluon plasma. © 2017 The Author(s)
