The measurements are based on a data sample collected with the CMS detector at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137fb−1. Events are selected by requiring exactly two same-sign leptons, electrons or muons, moderate missing transverse momentum, and two jets with a large rapidity separation and a large dijet mass to enhance the contribution of same-sign W±W± scattering events. An observed (expected) 95% confidence level upper limit of 1.17 (0.88) fbis set on the production cross section for longitudinally polarized same-sign W±W± boson pairs. The electroweak production of same-sign W±W± boson pairs with at least one of the W bosons longitudinally polarized is measured with an observed (expected) significance of 2.3 (3.1) standard deviations. © 2020 The Author(s)Article Citation - WoS: 52Measurement of W Gamma and Z Gamma Production in Pp Collisions at Root S=7 Tev(Elsevier Ltd., 2011) Karapınar, GülerA measurement of W gamma and Z gamma production in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV is presented. Results are based on a data sample recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1). The electron and muon decay channels of the W and Z are used. The total cross sections are measured for photon transverse energy E-T(gamma) > 10 GeV and spatial separation from charged leptons in the plane of pseudorapidity and azimuthal angle Delta R(l.gamma) > 0.7, and with an additional dilepton invariant mass requirement of M-ll > 50 GeV for the Z gamma process. The following cross section times branching fraction values are found: sigma(pp -> W gamma + X) x B(W -> lv) = 56.3 +/- 5.0(stat.) +/- 5.0(syst.) +/- 2.3(lumi.) pb and sigma(pp -> Z gamma + X) x B(Z -> ll) = 9.4 +/- 1.0(stat.) +/- 0.6(syst.) +/- 0.4(lumi.) pb. These measurements are in agreement with standard model predictions. The first limits on anomalous WW gamma, ZZ gamma, and Z gamma gamma trilinear gauge couplings at root s = 7 TeV are set. The measurements are performed in the leptonic decay modes [Formula presented] and [Formula presented], where ℓ,ℓ′=e, [Formula presented]. Differential fiducial cross sections as functions of the invariant masses of the jet and charged lepton pairs, as well as of the leading-lepton transverse momentum, are measured for W±W± production and are consistent with the standard model predictions. The dependence of differential cross sections on the invariant mass of the jet pair is also measured for WZ production. An observation of electroweak production of WZ boson pairs is reported with an observed (expected) significance of 6.8 (5.3) standard deviations. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.6fb(-1). The ZZ production cross section, sigma(pp -> ZZ) = 14.6(-1.8)(+1.9)(stat)(-0.3)(+0.5) (syst) +/-0.2 (theo) +/-0.4 (lumi) pb, is measured for events with two opposite-sign, sameflavor lepton pairs produced in the mass region 60 < m(l+l-) m (l'+l'-) < 120GeV. The Z boson branching fraction to four leptons is measured to be B(Z -> l(+)l(-)l '(+)l '(-)) = 4.9(-0.7)(+0.8)(stat)(-0.2)(+0.3)(syst)(-0.1)(+0.2)(theo) +/- 0.1 (lumi) x10(-6) for the four-lepton invariant mass in the range 80 < m(l+)l-l'+l' < 100GeVand dilepton mass m(l+l-) > 4GeVfor all opposite-sign, same-flavor lepton pairs. Measurements are performed in the W±→μ±νμ channel using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 173.4±6.1nb−1, collected by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC. The number of positively and negatively charged W bosons is determined separately in the muon pseudorapidity region in the laboratory frame |ηlab μ|<2.4 and transverse momentum pT μ>25GeV/c. The W± boson differential cross sections, muon charge asymmetry, and the ratios of W± boson yields for the proton-going over the Pb-going beam directions are reported as a function of the muon pseudorapidity in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass frame. The measurements are compared to the predictions from theoretical calculations based on parton distribution functions (PDFs) at next-to-leading-order. The results favour PDF calculations that include nuclear modifications and provide constraints on the nuclear PDF global fits. © 2019 The Author(s)Article Citation - WoS: 42Citation - Scopus: 45Differential cross section measurements for the production of a W boson in association with jets in proton–proton collisions at S=7 TeV(Elsevier, 2015) Karapınar, GülerMeasurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MADGRAPH + PYTHIA and SHERPA, and to next-to-leading-order calculations from BLACKHAT + SHERPA. The differential cross sections are found to be in agreement with the predictions, apart from the pT distributions of the leading jets at high pT values, the distributions of the HT at high-HT and low jet multiplicity, and the distribution of the difference in azimuthal angle between the leading jet and the muon at low values. © 2014 The Authors
