Search for Supersymmetry in pp Collisions at √s=13 TeV in the Single-Lepton Final State Using the Sum of Masses of Large-Radius Jets
    (Amer Physical Soc, 2017) Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Woods, N.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
Results are reported from a search for supersymmetric particles in proton-proton collisions in the final state with a single lepton, multiple jets, including at least one b-tagged jet, and large missing transverse momentum. The search uses a sample of proton-proton collision data at root s = 13 TeV recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). The observed event yields in the signal regions are consistent with those expected from standard model backgrounds. The results are interpreted in the context of simplified models of supersymmetry involving gluino pair production, with gluino decay into either on- or off-mass-shell top squarks. Assuming that the top squarks decay into a top quark plus a stable, weakly interacting neutralino, scenarios with gluino masses up to about 1.9 TeV are excluded at 95% confidence level for neutralino masses up to about 1 TeV.

Measurement of Single-Diffractive Dijet Production in Proton–proton Collisions at √s=8te With the Cms and Totem Experiments
(Springer Nature, 2020) Sirunyan, A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Josa, M.I.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
Measurements are presented of the single-diffractive dijet cross section and the diffractive cross section as a function of the proton fractional momentum loss ξ and the four-momentum transfer squared t. Both processes pp→pX and pp→Xp, i.e. with the proton scattering to either side of the interaction point, are measured, where X includes at least two jets; the results of the two processes are averaged. The analyses are based on data collected simultaneously with the CMS and TOTEM detectors at the LHC in proton–proton collisions at s=8Te during a dedicated run with β∗=90m at low instantaneous luminosity and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 37.5nb-1. The single-diffractive dijet cross section σjjpX, in the kinematic region ξ< 0.1 , 0.03<|t|<1Ge2, with at least two jets with transverse momentum pT>40Ge, and pseudorapidity | η| < 4.4 , is 21.7±0.9(stat)-3.3+3.0(syst)±0.9(lumi)nb. The ratio of the single-diffractive to inclusive dijet yields, normalised per unit of ξ, is presented as a function of x, the longitudinal momentum fraction of the proton carried by the struck parton. The ratio in the kinematic region defined above, for x values in the range - 2.9 ≤ log 10x≤ - 1.6 , is R=(σjjpX/Δξ)/σjj=0.025±0.001(stat)±0.003(syst), where σjjpX and σjj are the single-diffractive and inclusive dijet cross sections, respectively. The results are compared with predictions from models of diffractive and nondiffractive interactions. Monte Carlo predictions based on the HERA diffractive parton distribution functions agree well with the data when corrected for the effect of soft rescattering between the spectator partons. © 2020, CERN for the benefit of the CMS and TOTEM collaborations.

Measurement of Electroweak Production of a W Boson in Association With Two Jets in Proton–proton Collisions at √s=13te
(Springer Nature, 2020) Sirunyan, A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Gonzalez Lopez, O.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
A measurement is presented of electroweak (EW) production of a W boson in association with two jets in proton–proton collisions at s=13Te. The data sample was recorded by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb-1. The measurement is performed for the ℓνjj final state (with ℓν indicating a lepton–neutrino pair, and j representing the quarks produced in the hard interaction) in a kinematic region defined by invariant mass mjj>120Ge and transverse momenta pTj>25Ge. The cross section of the process is measured in the electron and muon channels yielding σEW(Wjj)=6.23±0.12(stat)±0.61(syst)pb per channel, in agreement with leading-order standard model predictions. The additional hadronic activity of events in a signal-enriched region is studied, and the measurements are compared with predictions. The final state is also used to perform a search for anomalous trilinear gauge couplings. Limits on anomalous trilinear gauge couplings associated with dimension-six operators are given in the framework of an effective field theory. The corresponding 95% confidence level intervals are -2.3<cWWW/Λ2<2.5Te-2, -8.8<cW/Λ2<16Te-2, and -45<cB/Λ2<46Te-2. These results are combined with the CMS EW Zjj analysis, yielding the constraint on the cW W W coupling: -1.8<cWWW/Λ2<2.0Te-2. © 2020, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.

Studies of Charm Quark Diffusion Inside Jets Using Pb-Pb and Pp Collisions at Snn =5.02 Tev
(American Physical Society, 2020) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Devetak, D.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
The first study of charm quark diffusion with respect to the jet axis in heavy ion collisions is presented. The measurement is performed using jets with pTjet>60 GeV/c and D0 mesons with pTD>4 GeV/c in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of sNN=5.02 TeV, recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. The radial distribution of D0 mesons with respect to the jet axis is sensitive to the production mechanisms of the meson, as well as to the energy loss and diffusion processes undergone by its parent parton inside the strongly interacting medium produced in Pb-Pb collisions. When compared to Monte Carlo event generators, the radial distribution in pp collisions is found to be well described by pythia, while the slope of the distribution predicted by sherpa is steeper than that of the data. In Pb-Pb collisions, compared to the pp results, the D0 meson distribution for 4<pTD<20 GeV/c hints at a larger distance on average with respect to the jet axis, reflecting a diffusion of charm quarks in the medium created in heavy ion collisions. At higher pTD, the Pb-Pb and pp radial distributions are found to be similar. © 2020 CERN.

Measurement of the Triple-Differential Dijet Cross Section in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s=8tev and Constraints on Parton Distribution Functions
(Springer Nature, 2017) Sirunyan, A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Brandstetter, J.; Barney, D.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
A measurement is presented of the triple-differential dijet cross section at a centre-of-mass energy of 8TeV using 19.7fb-1 of data collected with the CMS detector in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The cross section is measured as a function of the average transverse momentum, half the rapidity separation, and the boost of the two leading jets in the event. The cross section is corrected for detector effects and compared to calculations in perturbative quantum chromodynamics at next-to-leading order accuracy, complemented with electroweak and nonperturbative corrections. New constraints on parton distribution functions are obtained and the inferred value of the strong coupling constant is αS(MZ)=0.1199±0.0015(exp)-0.0020+0.0031(theo), where MZ is the mass of the Z boson. © 2017, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.

Search for Heavy Resonances That Decay Into a Vector Boson and a Higgs Boson in Hadronic Final States at √s=13tev
    (Springer Nature, 2017) Sirunyan, A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Ruiz-Jimeno, A.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
A search for heavy resonances with masses above 1TeV, decaying to final states containing a vector boson and a Higgs boson, is presented. The search considers hadronic decays of the vector boson, and Higgs boson decays to b quarks. The decay products are highly boosted, and each collimated pair of quarks is reconstructed as a single, massive jet. The analysis is performed using a data sample collected in 2016 by the CMS experiment at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb-1. The data are consistent with the background expectation and are used to place limits on the parameters of a theoretical model with a heavy vector triplet. In the benchmark scenario with mass-degenerate W′ and Z ′ bosons decaying predominantly to pairs of standard model bosons, for the first time heavy resonances for masses as high as 3.3TeV are excluded at 95% confidence level, setting the most stringent constraints to date on such states decaying into a vector boson and a Higgs boson. © 2017, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.

Search for New Phenomena With the Mt 2 Variable in the All-Hadronic Final State Produced in Proton–proton Collisions at √s=13tev
(Springer Nature, 2017) Sirunyan, A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Johnson, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Scodellaro, L.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
A search for new phenomena is performed using events with jets and significant transverse momentum imbalance, as inferred through the MT 2 variable. The results are based on a sample of proton–proton collisions collected in 2016 at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV with the CMS detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb-1. No excess event yield is observed above the predicted standard model background, and the results are interpreted as exclusion limits at 95% confidence level on the masses of predicted particles in a variety of simplified models of R-parity conserving supersymmetry. Depending on the details of the model, 95% confidence level lower limits on the gluino (light-flavor squark) masses are placed up to 2025 (1550)GeV. Mass limits as high as 1070 (1175)GeV are set on the masses of top (bottom) squarks. Information is provided to enable re-interpretation of these results, including model-independent limits on the number of non-standard model events for a set of simplified, inclusive search regions. © 2017, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.

Search for Dark Matter Produced in Association With Heavy-Flavor Quark Pairs in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s=13tev
(Springer Nature, 2017) Sirunyan, A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Brandstetter, J.; Dorney, B.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
A search is presented for an excess of events with heavy-flavor quark pairs (tt¯ and bb¯) and a large imbalance in transverse momentum in data from proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 2.2fb-1 collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. No deviations are observed with respect to standard model predictions. The results are used in the first interpretation of dark matter production in tt¯ and bb¯ final states in a simplified model. This analysis is also the first to perform a statistical combination of searches for dark matter produced with different heavy-flavor final states. The combination provides exclusions that are stronger than those achieved with individual heavy-flavor final states. © 2017, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.

Search for Standard Model Production of Four Top Quarks With Same-Sign and Multilepton Final States in Proton–proton Collisions at √s=13tev
(Springer Nature, 2018) Sirunyan, A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Romero, L.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
A search for standard model production of four top quarks (t t ¯ t t ¯) is reported using events containing at least three leptons (e , μ) or a same-sign lepton pair. The events are produced in proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV at the LHC, and the data sample, recorded in 2016, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb-1. Jet multiplicity and flavor are used to enhance signal sensitivity, and dedicated control regions are used to constrain the dominant backgrounds. The observed and expected signal significances are, respectively, 1.6 and 1.0 standard deviations, and the t t ¯ t t ¯ cross section is measured to be 16.9-11.4+13.8fb, in agreement with next-to-leading-order standard model predictions. These results are also used to constrain the Yukawa coupling between the top quark and the Higgs boson to be less than 2.1 times its expected standard model value at 95% confidence level. © 2018, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.

Measurements of the P P → Z Z Production Cross Section and the Z → 4 ℓ Branching Fraction, and Constraints on Anomalous Triple Gauge Couplings at √s=13tev
(Springer Nature, 2018) Sirunyan, A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Rivero, C.M.; 01. Izmir Institute of Technology
Four-lepton production in proton-proton collisions, p p → (Z / γ∗) (Z / γ∗) → 4 ℓ, where ℓ= e or μ, is studied at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb-1. The ZZ production cross section, σ(pp→ZZ)=17.2±0.5(stat)±0.7(syst)±0.4(theo)±0.4(lumi) pb, measured using events with two opposite-sign, same-flavor lepton pairs produced in the mass region 60<mℓ+ℓ-<120GeV, is consistent with standard model predictions. Differential cross sections are measured and are well described by the theoretical predictions. The Z boson branching fraction to four leptons is measured to be B(Z=4.8±0.2(stat)±0.2(syst)±0.1(theo)±0.1(lumi)×10-6 for events with a four-lepton invariant mass in the range 80<m4ℓ<100GeV and a dilepton mass m4GeV for all opposite-sign, same-flavor lepton pairs. The results agree with standard model predictions. The invariant mass distribution of the four-lepton system is used to set limits on anomalous ZZZ and ZZγ couplings at 95% confidence level: -0.0012<f4Z<0.0010, -0.0010<f5Z<0.0013, -0.0012<f4γ<0.0013, -0.0012<f5γ<0.0013. © 2018, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.
