Article Citation - WoS: 20Citation - Scopus: 31Search for Flavor-Changing Neutral Current Interactions of the Top Quark and Higgs Boson in Final States With Two Photons in Proton-Proton Collisions at S =13 Tev(American Physical Society, 2022) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J.W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Dragicevic, M.; Bunichev, V.; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyProton-proton interactions resulting in final states with two photons are studied in a search for the signature of flavor-changing neutral current interactions of top quarks (t) and Higgs bosons (H). The analysis is based on data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb-1. No significant excess above the background prediction is observed. Upper limits on the branching fractions (B) of the top quark decaying to a Higgs boson and an up (u) or charm (c) quark are derived through a binned fit to the diphoton invariant mass spectrum. The observed (expected) 95% confidence level upper limits are found to be 0.019% (0.031%) for B(t→Hu) and 0.073% (0.051%) for B(t→Hc). These are the strictest upper limits yet determined. © 2022 CERN.Article Citation - WoS: 22Citation - Scopus: 25Observation of the Bc+ Meson in Pb-Pb and Pp Collisions at Snn =5.02 Tev and Measurement of Its Nuclear Modification Factor(American Physical Society, 2022) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J.W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Dragicevic, M.; Boos, E.; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyThe Bc+ meson is observed for the first time in heavy ion collisions. Data from the CMS detector are used to study the production of the Bc+ meson in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sNN=5.02 TeV, via the Bc+→(J/ψ→μ+μ-)μ+νμ decay. The Bc+ nuclear modification factor, derived from the Pb-Pb-to-pp ratio of production cross sections, is measured in two bins of the trimuon transverse momentum and of the Pb-Pb collision centrality. The Bc+ meson is shown to be less suppressed than quarkonia and most of the open heavy-flavor mesons, suggesting that effects of the hot and dense nuclear matter created in heavy ion collisions contribute to its production. This measurement sets forth a promising new probe of the interplay of suppression and enhancement mechanisms in the production of heavy-flavor mesons in the quark-gluon plasma. © 2022 CERN.Article Citation - WoS: 105Evidence of B-Jet Quenching in PbPb Collisions at √sNN=2.76 TeV(American Physical Society, 2014) Chatrchyan, S.; Khachatryan, V.; Sirunyan, A. M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Bergauer, T.; Smith, W. H.; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyThe production of jets associated to bottom quarks is measured for the first time in PbPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair. Jet spectra are reported in the transverse momentum (p(T)) range of 80-250 GeV/c, and within pseudorapidity |eta| < 2. The nuclear modification factor (RAA) calculated from these spectra shows a strong suppression in the b-jet yield in PbPb collisions relative to the yield observed in pp collisions at the same energy. The suppression persists to the largest values of p(T) studied, and is centrality dependent. The R-AA is about 0.4 in the most central events, similar to previous observations for inclusive jets. This implies that jet quenching does not have a strong dependence on parton mass and flavor in the jet p(T) range studied.Article Citation - WoS: 72Citation - Scopus: 72Measurement of J /Ψ and Ψ (2s) Prompt Double-Differential Cross Sections in Pp Collisions at S =7tev(American Physical Society, 2015) Khachatryan, V.; Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Bergauer, T.; Dragicevic, M.; Innocente, V.; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyThe double-differential cross sections of promptly produced J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are measured in pp collisions at s=7TeV, as a function of transverse momentum pT and absolute rapidity |y|. The analysis uses J/ψ and ψ(2S) dimuon samples collected by the CMS experiment, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 4.55 and 4.90fb-1, respectively. The results are based on a two-dimensional analysis of the dimuon invariant mass and decay length, and extend to pT=120 and 100 GeV for the J/ψ and ψ(2S), respectively, when integrated over the interval |y|<1.2. The ratio of the ψ(2S) to J/ψ cross sections is also reported for |y|<1.2, over the range 10<pT<100GeV. These are the highest pT values for which the cross sections and ratio have been measured. © 2015 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration.Article Citation - WoS: 91Citation - Scopus: 133Measurements of T T ¯ H Production and the Cp Structure of the Yukawa Interaction Between the Higgs Boson and Top Quark in the Diphoton Decay Channel(American Physical Society, 2020) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Bergauer, T.; Dragicevic, M.; Skovpen, Y.; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyThe first observation of the tt¯H process in a single Higgs boson decay channel with the full reconstruction of the final state (H→γγ) is presented, with a significance of 6.6 standard deviations (σ). The CP structure of Higgs boson couplings to fermions is measured, resulting in an exclusion of the pure CP-odd structure of the top Yukawa coupling at 3.2σ. The measurements are based on a sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy s=13 TeV collected by the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb-1. The cross section times branching fraction of the tt¯H process is measured to be σtt¯HBγγ=1.56-0.32+0.34 fb, which is compatible with the standard model prediction of 1.13-0.11+0.08 fb. The fractional contribution of the CP-odd component is measured to be fCPHtt=0.00±0.33. © 2020 CERN.Article Citation - WoS: 15Citation - Scopus: 16Studies of Charm Quark Diffusion Inside Jets Using Pb-Pb and Pp Collisions at Snn =5.02 Tev(American Physical Society, 2020) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Devetak, D.; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyThe first study of charm quark diffusion with respect to the jet axis in heavy ion collisions is presented. The measurement is performed using jets with pTjet>60 GeV/c and D0 mesons with pTD>4 GeV/c in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of sNN=5.02 TeV, recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. The radial distribution of D0 mesons with respect to the jet axis is sensitive to the production mechanisms of the meson, as well as to the energy loss and diffusion processes undergone by its parent parton inside the strongly interacting medium produced in Pb-Pb collisions. When compared to Monte Carlo event generators, the radial distribution in pp collisions is found to be well described by pythia, while the slope of the distribution predicted by sherpa is steeper than that of the data. In Pb-Pb collisions, compared to the pp results, the D0 meson distribution for 4<pTD<20 GeV/c hints at a larger distance on average with respect to the jet axis, reflecting a diffusion of charm quarks in the medium created in heavy ion collisions. At higher pTD, the Pb-Pb and pp radial distributions are found to be similar. © 2020 CERN.Article Citation - WoS: 14Citation - Scopus: 21Evidence for Top Quark Production in Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions(American Physical Society, 2020) Sirunyan, A.M.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Bergauer, T.; Dragicevic, M.; Polikarpov, S.; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyUltrarelativistic heavy ion collisions recreate in the laboratory the thermodynamical conditions prevailing in the early universe up to 10-6 sec, thereby allowing the study of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), a state of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) matter with deconfined partons. The top quark, the heaviest elementary particle known, is accessible in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN LHC, and constitutes a novel probe of the QGP. Here, we report the first evidence for the production of top quarks in nucleus-nucleus collisions, using lead-lead collision data at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV recorded by the CMS experiment. Two methods are used to measure the cross section for top quark pair production (σtt) via the selection of charged leptons (electrons or muons) and bottom quarks. One method relies on the leptonic information alone, and the second one exploits, in addition, the presence of bottom quarks. The measured cross sections, σtt=2.54-0.74+0.84 and 2.03-0.64+0.71 μb, respectively, are compatible with expectations from scaled proton-proton data and QCD predictions. © 2020 CERN.Article Citation - WoS: 46Citation - Scopus: 50Studies of Beauty Suppression Via Nonprompt D0 Mesons in Pb-Pb Collisions at Snn =5.02 Tev(American Physical Society, 2019) Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Dordevic, M.; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyThe transverse momentum spectra of D0 mesons from b hadron decays are measured at midrapidity (|y|<1) in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center of mass energy of 5.02 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The D0 mesons from b hadron decays are distinguished from prompt D0 mesons by their decay topologies. In Pb-Pb collisions, the B?D0 yield is found to be suppressed in the measured pT range from 2 to 100 GeV/c as compared to pp collisions. The suppression is weaker than that of prompt D0 mesons and charged hadrons for pT around 10 GeV/c. While theoretical calculations incorporating partonic energy loss in the quark-gluon plasma can successfully describe the measured B?D0 suppression at higher pT, the data show an indication of larger suppression than the model predictions in the range of 2<pT<5 GeV/c. © 2019 CERN.Article Citation - WoS: 9Citation - Scopus: 37Search for a Light Charged Higgs Boson Decaying To a W Boson and a Cp -Odd Higgs Boson in Final States With Eμμ or Μμμ in Proton-Proton Collisions at S =13 Tev(American Physical Society, 2019) Sirunyan, A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Bergauer, T.; Brandstetter, J.; Savrin, V.; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyA search for a light charged Higgs boson (H+) decaying to a W boson and a CP-odd Higgs boson (A) in final states with eμμ or μμμ is performed using data from pp collisions at s=13 TeV, recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb-1. In this search, it is assumed that the H+ boson is produced in decays of top quarks, and the A boson decays to two oppositely charged muons. The presence of signals for H+ boson masses between 100 and 160 GeV and A boson masses between 15 and 75 GeV is investigated. No evidence for the production of the H+ boson is found. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are obtained on the combined branching fraction for the decay chain, t→bH+→bW+A→bW+μ+μ-, of 1.9×10-6 to 8.6×10-6, depending on the masses of the H+ and A bosons. These are the first limits for these decay modes of the H+ and A bosons. © 2019 CERN.Article Citation - WoS: 20Citation - Scopus: 48Search for Low-Mass Quark-Antiquark Resonances Produced in Association With a Photon at S =13 Tev(American Physical Society, 2019) Sirunyan, A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Bergauer, T.; Brandstetter, J.; Obraztsov, S.; 01. Izmir Institute of TechnologyA search for narrow low-mass resonances decaying to quark-antiquark pairs is presented. The search is based on proton-proton collision events collected at 13 TeV by the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb-1, recorded in 2016. The search considers the case where the resonance has high transverse momentum due to initial-state radiation of a hard photon. To study this process, the decay products of the resonance are reconstructed as a single large-radius jet with two-pronged substructure. The signal would be identified as a localized excess in the jet invariant mass spectrum. No evidence for such a resonance is observed in the mass range 10 to 125 GeV. Upper limits at the 95% confidence level are set on the coupling strength of resonances decaying to quark pairs. The results obtained with this photon trigger strategy provide the first direct constraints on quark-antiquark resonance masses below 50 GeV obtained at a hadron collider. © 2019 CERN. for the CMS Collaboration.
