Review Citation - Scopus: 2Wnt/β-catenin Signaling in Central Nervous System Regeneration(2025) Nazli, D.; Bora, U.; Ozhan, G.The Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway plays a pivotal role in the development, maintenance, and repair of the central nervous system (CNS). This chapter explores the diverse functions of Wnt/β-catenin signaling, from its critical involvement in embryonic CNS development to its reparative and plasticity-inducing roles in response to CNS injury. We discuss how Wnt/β-catenin signaling influences various CNS cell types-astrocytes, microglia, neurons, and oligodendrocytes-each contributing to repair and plasticity after injury. The chapter also addresses the pathway's involvement in CNS disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, psychiatric disorders, and traumatic brain injury (TBI), highlighting potential Wnt-based therapeutic approaches. Lastly, zebrafish are presented as a promising model organism for studying CNS regeneration and neurodegenerative diseases, offering insights into future research and therapeutic development. © 2024. The multipotent property of MSCs enables them to differentiate into various cell types and lineages, such as adipocytes, chondrocytes, and osteocytes. The immunomodulation capacity and tumor-targeting features of MSCs made their use crucial for cell-based therapies in cancer treatment, yet limited advancement could be observed in translational medicine prospects due to the need for more information regarding the controversial roles of MSCs in crosstalk tumors. In this review, we discuss the therapeutic potential of MSCs, the controversial roles played by MSCs in cancer progression, and the anticancer therapeutic strategies that are in association with MSCs. Finally, the clinical trials designed for the direct use of MSCs for cancer therapy or for their use in decreasing the side effects of other cancer therapies are also mentioned in this review to evaluate the current status of MSC-based cancer therapies. © 2024. These microdevices can mimic biological environments that enable cell-cell interactions on a small scale by mimicking 3D in vivo microenvironments outside the body. Thus far, numerous single and multiple OoCs that mimic organs have been developed, and they have emerged as forerunners for drug efficacy and cytotoxicity testing. This review explores OoC platforms to highlight their versatility in studies of drug safety, efficacy, and toxicity. The sections of the review are colloidal synthesis, precursor reactivity, cation exchange, doping and de-doping, surface passivation and ligand exchange, intraband transitions, quenching and purification, and future directions. The colloidal synthesis section is organized based on precursors employed: toxic substances as mercury- and lead-based metals and non-toxic substances as indium- and silver-based metal precursors. CQDs are prepared by wet-chemical methods that offer advantages such as precise spectral tunability by adjusting particle size or particle composition, easy fabrication and integration of solution-based CQDs (as inks) with complementary metal-oxide-semiconductors, reduced cost of material manufacturing, and good performances of IR CQD-made optoelectronic devices for non-military applications. These advantages may allow facile and materials' cost-reduced device fabrications that make CQD based IR technologies accessible compared to optoelectronic devices utilizing epitaxially grown semiconductors. However, precursor libraries should be advanced to improve colloidal IR quantum dot synthesis, enabling CQD based IR technologies available to consumer electronics. As the attention of academia and industry to CQDs continue to proliferate, the progress of precursor chemistry for IR CQDs could be rapid. © 2024 IOP Publishing Ltd. Bergamot extracts have been suggested to possess several pharmacological properties, including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, which could be useful in the management of age-related diseases and neuromuscular health. The review highlights the promising effects of bergamot extracts on skeletal muscle mass and function, particularly in the context of obesity, metabolic syndrome, osteosarcopenic obesity, and osteoporosis. Furthermore, some studies have shown that bergamot extracts can improve the metabolic balance, endothelial function, and maximal oxygen uptake in athletes, highlighting their potential benefits for skeletal muscle health. Despite the rapid increase of research papers, there is a lack of systematic evaluation of the health benefits and risks of FF. The COST Action CA20128 "Promoting innovation of fermented foods" (PIMENTO) aims to provide a comprehensive assessment on the available evidence by compiling a set of 16 reviews. Seven reviews will cover clinical and biological endpoints associated with major health indicators across several organ systems, including the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, neurological, immune, and skeletal systems. Nine reviews will address broader biological questions associated with FF including bioactive compounds and vitamin production, nutrient bioavailability and bioaccessibility, the role of FF in healthy diets and personalized nutrition, food safety, regulatory practices, and finally, the health properties of novel and ethnic FF. For each outcome assessed in the reviews, an innovative approach will be adopted based on EFSA's published guidance for health claim submissions. In particular, each review will be composed of three parts: (1) a systematic review of available human studies; (2) a non-systematic review of the mechanism of action related to the clinical endpoints measured by the human studies identified in part 1; and (3) a non-systematic review of the characterization of the FF investigated in the human studies identified in part 1. As ER stress is associated with numerous diseases, it is highly important to delineate the molecular mechanisms governing the ER stress to gain insight into the disease pathology. Long non-coding RNAs, transcripts with a length of over 200 nucleotides that do not code for proteins, interact with proteins and nucleic acids, fine-tuning the UPR to restore ER homeostasis via various modes of actions. Dysregulation of specific lncRNAs is implicated in the progression of ER stress-related diseases, presenting these molecules as promising therapeutic targets. The comprehensive analysis underscores the importance of understanding the nuanced interplay between lncRNAs and ER stress for insights into disease mechanisms. These specialized metabolites are ubiquitous in the plant kingdom and play an essential role not only in plant reproduction and dispersal but also in responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. Anthocyanins are recognized as important health-promoting and chronic-disease-preventing components in the human diet. Therefore, interest in developing food crops with improved levels and compositions of these important nutraceuticals is growing. This review focuses on work conducted to elucidate the genetic control of the anthocyanin pathway and modulate anthocyanin content in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) and tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), two solanaceous fruit vegetables of worldwide relevance. While anthocyanin levels in eggplant fruit have always been an important quality trait, anthocyanin-based, purple-fruited tomato cultivars are currently a novelty. As detailed in this review, this difference in the anthocyanin content of the cultivated germplasm has largely influenced genetic studies as well as breeding and transgenic approaches to improve the anthocyanin content/profile of these two important solanaceous crops. Some prevalent authenticity issues found in edible oils include blending expensive oils with cheaper substitutes or lower-grade oils, incorrect labeling regarding the oil's source or type, and falsely stating the oil's origin. Vibrational spectroscopy techniques, such as infrared (IR) and Raman spectroscopy, have emerged as effective tools for rapidly and non-destructively analyzing edible oils. This review paper offers a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in using vibrational spectroscopy for authenticating edible oils. The fundamental principles underlying vibrational spectroscopy are introduced and chemometric approaches that enhance the accuracy and reliability of edible oil authentication are summarized. Recent research trends highlighted in the review include authenticating newly introduced oils, identifying oils based on their specific origins, adopting handheld/portable spectrometers and hyperspectral imaging, and integrating modern data handling techniques into the use of vibrational spectroscopic techniques for edible oil authentication. Overall, this review provides insights into the current state-of-the-art techniques and prospects for utilizing vibrational spectroscopy in the authentication of edible oils, thereby facilitating quality control and consumer protection in the food industry. The authentication of edible oils has become increasingly important for ensuring product quality, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards.
