    Shapes of Miura Mesh Mechanism With Mobility One

    The Miura Ori is a mechanism composed by a polyhedral deployable surface. It has favorable qualities from engineering prospective that lead the growing interest on it. The present work focuses on its transmission of motion. The mechanism can be represented by spherical 4 bar linkages, and on this account a simple and effective mobility formula is presented. The mechanism having a number of excessive rigid members, it is also possible to remove all or some of them, variously arranged. The changes are included in the calculation of allowable mobility of the system. The resulting tool can be directly used for the design of deployable Miura Ori surfaces with customized shape.

    Design of a 2-Dof 8r Linkage for Transformable Hypar Structure

    Double curved geometries including hyperbolicparaboloids (hypars) have become a trend in contemporary architecture. However, most of the constructed architectural examples of the hypars are static and cannot offer any form variability. In this paper, a 2-DOF 8R linkage mechanism is introduced to buildtransformable hypar structures. It is inspired from the basic design principles of Bennett linkage. By its distinctive connection details and additional links, this novel mechanism can change its form fromplanar geometries to various hypars. The paper begins with the brief summary of the applications of hypar structures in architecture. Secondly, main principles and deficiencies of the Bennett linkage are presented. According to these deficiencies, structural synthesis of the novel mechanism is considered. Finally, advantages and potential uses of the proposed novel mechanism are explained. © 2012 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

    Design of a Reconfigurable Deployable Structure

    This paper introduces a reconfigurable mechanised structure design composed of planar linkage units. The alternative forms that a linkage can be constructed with the same links and connections are called configurations or assembly modes of the linkage. During its motion, the linkage may pass from one assembly mode to another, which is called reconfiguration or assembly mode change. The reconfigurable structure presented in this paper is a single DOF multi-loop mechanised structure which has more than two configurations. Design and position analysis of the mechanism are implemented in Microsoft Excel environment. The link lengths can be varied in this environment and the structure can be simulated by changing input joint parameters. The mechanised reconfigurable structure can be used as a multifunctional canopy which can take any form in a few minutes for urgent needs after disasters, military purpose or public needs.
