In this approach there are various aspects of researches about HCI in order to explore how people design, implement, and use interactive computer systems and how computers affect individuals, organizations, and society. This study represents exploring the adoption factors of smart glasses. Technology adoption process establishes preferences and needs of people who use computers and smart systems. To address this issue, technology adoption is essential for a rapidly changing world where technology has become central to our lives. In that context, user interface (UI) which provides interaction between user and computer, plays significant role for technology adoption process. The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of smart glass design features; Stand-alone device, field of view, interaction, price, and display resolution on user preference through an experimental study by using conjoint analysis. In order to apply this study, an experimental study including a survey was designed. This survey also analyze social characteristics such as self-efficacy, anxiety, involvement, risk-task characteristics, enjoyment, usefulness, ease of use, attitude and intention for user smart glasses interaction.Master Thesis A Toy Proposal for Alternative Use of Polyethylene Pool Noodles in Aquatic Toy Design(01. Izmir Institute of Technology, 2022) Yalçınkaya, Merter; Başoğlu, Ahmet Nuri; Başoğlu, Ahmet NuriThe study focuses on the design of aquatic toys, which is a special area of industrial toy design in general. Many times, with their various aspects, toys have been among the research subjects of several specialties. Industrial design, which deals with the subject from various perspectives, especially "toy design", is one of these research and application areas. Although many academic studies have been carried out in the field of industrial toy design, it is seen that there is an academic gap especially in the industrial design of aquatic toys. Looking at the overall aquatic toy market, it is seen that inflatable PVC products dominate the market. This brings to mind the question of what new approaches could be in aquatic toy design. As an answer to this question, it can be said that the use of alternative materials has emerged as a remarkable option. In this sense, the idea of investigating the potentials of using PE pool noodles as an alternative design element/material in aquatic toy design constitutes the starting point of the study. In this study, an aquatic toy prototype proposal and its design process are presented in order to understand the potential of using PE pool noodles as a structural component of an aquatic toy and to exemplify the aquatic toy design which is the main subject of the research. The prototype had been evaluated by the potential users. Their comments had been depicted as findings of the analysis and suggested for further development.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Design Study of a Medical Device(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2017) Taşkın, Burcu; Başoğlu, Ahmet NuriFor the new product design in the medical industry, the designer's role is to identify requirements of product by focusing on the target need, demand and market supply. The relationships among information, task, and performance are analyzed in the natural environment against job-related beliefs and technology. The final instrument was applied to professionals mainly from the Finance and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sectors. Statistical analyses were used to quantify the relationships. The goal of the study was also to develop a model of task information fit (TIF). Results indicate that the tool has been successful and models the underlying structure between system characteristics, task characteristics, information characteristics, and their impact on perceived business success to some degree. A reduced TIF model was targeted to discover the relation between task characteristics, information characteristics, and their effect on business performance on a per-item basis. The correlations between the items supported the proposed relations.Conference Object Individual Adaptation Determinants and Themes for Environmental Resilience(IEEE, 2022) Kaplan, Gizem; Çorbacıoğlu, Eda; Başoğlu, Ahmet NuriIt is now an accepted fact that climate change is an event with increasing consequences and that we humans must do something about it. At this stage, the adaptation of individuals plays a key role. In this study, we searched for various behavioral theories and variables for our future study. With an S-question in-depth interview (7 people for sample size) and a survey of 68 actions (77 people for sample size), we investigated what subjects people tend to make changes in their daily lives. As a result, it has emerged that the tendency is to change the vehicles used in transportation. And the majority of the participants think that the partners who need to take action regarding the climate crisis are the service providers (states, NGOs, industry, and companies) rather than the consumers (individuals).Article Citation - WoS: 51Citation - Scopus: 75Augmented Reality Technology Adoption: Case of a Mobile Application in Turkey(Elsevier, 2021) Yavuz, Merve; Çorbacıoğlu, Eda; Başoğlu, Ahmet Nuri; Daim, Tuğrul U.; Shaygan, AmirWith the increasing use of smart devices, augmented reality (AR) technology has become widespread in mobile devices. As with user interaction technologies, there are factors affecting the use of applications in mobile augmented reality (MAR) applications. In this study, the factors affecting the use of mobile augmented reality in Turkey are investigated. Although AR and MAR are generally investigated during the research period, “Augment”, the application, was used in the survey and interview parts of the research study. The interview consists of three different parts in addition to a quantitative experimental study. More than hundred variables were obtained from articles and interviews which 22 of them were selected. The results showed that the two most important factors that influence usage of MAR applications are security and privacy. These two are followed by ease of learning, visual quality of the application 3D model, and ease of use in importance, respectively. It is recommended that designers and application developers consider these five variables when designing or developing a MAR application. © 2021 Elsevier LtdMaster Thesis The Factors That Influence Usage of Mobile Augmented Reality Application(Izmir Institute of Technology, 2019) Yavuz, Merve; Başoğlu, Ahmet NuriWith the increasing use of smart devices, augmented reality (AR) technology has become widespread in mobile devices. Izmir Institute of Technology, 2024) Sarıgöl, Işın Sözen; Dindaroğlu, Burak; Başoğlu, Ahmet NuriThe objective of this master's dissertation is to evaluate adoption factors for robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) as its evaluation methodology. Robotic-assisted surgery is used in various surgical fields. It is mainly used as a tool in numerous disciplines' minimally invasive surgery procedures (MIS). Since it has so many different application areas and actors, the determination of its adoption factors and evaluation process of these factors' priorities for surgeons is a highly complex issue that includes multicriteria of decision-making and numerous surgeons. A comprehensive list of these possible adoption factors recognized by conducting an extensive literature review, was picked and chosen. First, we had 310 factors mentioned in the literature that have a potential impact on the adoption process of the RAS. We have reduced these to 20 factors that are categorized under five different main criteria. By this, a unique AHP tree that is this thesis' contribution to the literature was developed. The research data was collected by an online survey from the surgeons of various disciplines working in Türkiye. Our final sample to evaluate priorities consisted of forty-one surgeon responses in total. The evaluation process consists of three steps: analyzing individual-based pairwise comparison matrices, their consistency rations, and their priority vectors. We executed the same workflow for the aggregated analysis for disciplined-based and all aggregation. Results are examined in detail and concluded with insightful interpretations.Master Thesis Exploring Determinants of Micro-Mobility Adoption for Environmental Sustainability(01. Izmir Institute of Technology, 2023) Kaplan, Gizem; Başoğlu, Ahmet Nuri; Çorbacıoğlu Gönezer, EdaThe current reality of the climate crisis necessitates urgent actions to mitigate carbon emissions. Transportation, a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, accounts for approximately 11% of total emissions. The choices individuals make regarding transportation directly impact carbon emissions. This study focuses on the adoption of transportation and micro mobility as sustainable transportation methods, both in daily life and business settings, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. The research comprises an in-depth semi-structured interview and two quantitative studies. The collected data was analyzed using various statistical techniques, including Cluster Analysis, Correlation Analysis, Descriptive Statistics, Reliability Analysis, and Regression Analysis. The results highlight the importance of nine factors in relation to individuals' transportation and micro mobility adaptation for environmental sustainability. These factors are Attitude, Social Norms, Involvement, Perceived Usefulness, Transparency, Concern, Regulation, External Influence, and Use. This study provides insights into the factors that influence individuals' choices regarding transportation and micro mobility for environmental sustainability. The findings contribute to our understanding of the key factors that shape individuals' attitudes and behaviors towards sustainable transportation options. The results can inform policymakers, urban planners, and transportation authorities in developing strategies and interventions to promote environmentally sustainable transportation practices.Editorial Preface(Springer, 2019) Daim,T.; Dabić,M.; Başoğlu,N.; Lavoie,J.R.; Galli,B.J.[No abstract available]
