Azimuthal Decorrelation of Jets Widely Separated in Rapidity in Pp Collisions at ?s = 7 Tev
    (Springer Verlag, 2016) Karapınar, Güler
The decorrelation in the azimuthal angle between the most forward and the most backward jets (Mueller-Navelet jets) is measured in data collected in pp collisions with the CMS detector at the LHC at s=7 TeV. The measurement is presented in the form of distributions of azimuthal-angle differences, Δϕ, between the Mueller-Navelet jets, the average cosines of (π − Δϕ), 2(π − Δϕ), and 3(π − Δϕ), and ratios of these cosines. The jets are required to have transverse momenta, pT, in excess of 35 GeV and rapidities, |y|, of less than 4.7. The results are presented as a function of the rapidity separation, Δy, between the Mueller-Navelet jets, reaching Δy up to 9.4 for the first time. The results are compared to predictions of various Monte Carlo event generators and to analytical predictions based on the DGLAP and BFKL parton evolution schemes.

Measurement of the Inclusive T(t)over-Bar Production Cross Section in Proton-Proton Collisions at Root S=5.02 Tev
(Springer, 2022) Tumasyan, A.; Karapınar, Güler
The top quark pair production cross section is measured in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. The data were collected in a special LHC low-energy and low-intensity run in 2017, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 302 pb(-1). The measurement is performed using events with one electron and one muon of opposite charge, and at least two jets. The measured cross section is 60.7 +/- 5.0 (stat) +/- 2.8 (syst) +/- 1.1 (lumi) pb. A combination with the result in the single lepton + jets channel, based on data collected in 2015 at the same center-of-mass energy and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 27.4 pb(-1), is then performed. The resulting measured value is 63.0 +/- 4.1 (stat) +/- 3.0 (syst+lumi) pb, in agreement with the standard model prediction of 66.8(-3.1)(+2.9) pb.

Evidence for Electroweak Production of Four Charged Leptons and Two Jets in Proton-Proton Collisions at S=13tev
    (Elsevier B.V., 2021) Sirunyan,A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan,A.; Adam,W.; Ambrogi,F.; Bergauer,T.; Dragicevic,M.; Chistov,R.
Evidence is presented for the electroweak (EW) production of two jets (jj) in association with two Z bosons and constraints on anomalous quartic gauge couplings are set. The analysis is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV collected with the CMS detector in 2016–2018, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137fb−1. The search is performed in the fully leptonic final state ZZ→ℓℓℓ′ℓ′, where ℓ,ℓ′=e,μ. The EW production of two jets in association with two Z bosons is measured with an observed (expected) significance of 4.0 (3.5) standard deviations. The cross sections for the EW production are measured in three fiducial volumes and the result is σEW(pp→ZZjj→ℓℓℓ′ℓ′jj)=0.33−0.10 +0.11(stat)−0.03 +0.04(syst)fb in the most inclusive volume, in agreement with the standard model prediction of 0.275±0.021fb. Measurements of total cross sections for jj production in association with two Z bosons are also reported. Limits on anomalous quartic gauge couplings are derived in terms of the effective field theory operators T0, T1, T2, T8, and T9. © 2020 The Author(s)

Search for Standard Model Production of Four Top Quarks With Same-Sign and Multilepton Final States in Proton–proton Collisions at √s=13tev
    (Springer Nature, 2018) Sirunyan, A.M.; Karapınar, Güler; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Romero, L.
A search for standard model production of four top quarks (t t ¯ t t ¯) is reported using events containing at least three leptons (e , μ) or a same-sign lepton pair. The events are produced in proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV at the LHC, and the data sample, recorded in 2016, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb-1. Jet multiplicity and flavor are used to enhance signal sensitivity, and dedicated control regions are used to constrain the dominant backgrounds. The observed and expected signal significances are, respectively, 1.6 and 1.0 standard deviations, and the t t ¯ t t ¯ cross section is measured to be 16.9-11.4+13.8fb, in agreement with next-to-leading-order standard model predictions. These results are also used to constrain the Yukawa coupling between the top quark and the Higgs boson to be less than 2.1 times its expected standard model value at 95% confidence level. © 2018, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.

Search for Pair-Produced Resonances Decaying To Quark Pairs in Proton-Proton Collisions at Root S=13 Tev
(American Physical Society, 2018) Karapınar, Güler
A general search for the pair production of resonances, each decaying to two quarks, is reported. The search is conducted separately for heavier resonances (masses above 400 GeV), where each of the four final-state quarks generates a hadronic jet resulting in a four-jet signature, and for lighter resonances (masses between 80 and 400 GeV), where the pair of quarks from each resonance is collimated and reconstructed as a single jet resulting in a two-jet signature. In addition, a b-tagged selection is applied to target resonances with a bottom quark in the final state. The analysis uses data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1), from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The mass spectra are analyzed for the presence of new resonances, and are found to be consistent with standard model expectations. The results are interpreted in the framework of R-parity-violating supersymmetry assuming the pair production of scalar top quarks decaying via the hadronic coupling lambda ''(312) or lambda ''(323) and upper limits on the cross section as a function of the top squark mass are set. These results probe a wider range of masses than previously explored at the LHC, and extend the top squark mass limits in the (t) over tilde -> qq' scenario.

Search for Lepton Flavour Violating Decays of the Higgs Boson To Μ? and E? in Proton-Proton Collisions at ?s=13 Tev
    (Springer Verlag, 2018) Karapınar, Güler
A search for lepton flavour violating decays of the Higgs boson in the μτ and eτ decay modes is presented. The search is based on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions collected with the CMS detector in 2016, at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No significant excess over the standard model expectation is observed. The observed (expected) upper limits on the lepton flavour violating branching fractions of the Higgs boson are ℬ(H → μτ) < 0.25% (0.25%) and ℬ(H → eτ) < 0.61% (0.37%), at 95% confidence level. These results are used to derive upper limits on the off-diagonal μτ and eτ Yukawa couplings |Yμτ|2+|Yτμ|2<1.43×10−3 and |Yeτ|2+|Yτe|2<2.26×10−3 at 95% confidence level. The limits on the lepton flavour violating branching fractions of the Higgs boson and on the associated Yukawa couplings are the most stringent to date.

Measurements of Differential Cross Sections of Top Quark Pair Production as a Function of Kinematic Event Variables in Proton-Proton Collisions at ?s=13 Tev
    (Springer Verlag, 2018) Karapınar, Güler
Measurements of differential t t ¯ production cross sections are presented in the single-lepton decay channel, as a function of a number of kinematic event variables. The measurements are performed with proton-proton collision data at s=13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC during 2016, with an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The data are compared to a variety of state-of-the-art leading-order and next-to-leading-order t t ¯ simulations.

CMS Data Processing Workflows During an Extended Cosmic Ray Run
(IOP Publishing Ltd., 2010) Demir, Durmuş Ali; Karapınar, Güler
The CMS Collaboration conducted a month-long data taking exercise, the Cosmic Run At Four Tesla, during October-November 2008, with the goal of commissioning the experiment for extended operation. With all installed detector systems participating, CMS recorded 270 million cosmic ray events with the solenoid at a magnetic field strength of 3.8 T. This paper describes the data flow from the detector through the various online and offline computing systems, as well as the workflows used for recording the data, for aligning and calibrating the detector, and for analysis of the data. © 2010 IOP Publishing Ltd and SISSA.

Observation of Top Quark Pairs Produced in Association With a Vector Boson in Pp Collisions at ?s = 8 Tev
    (Springer Verlag, 2016) Karapınar, Güler
Measurements of the cross sections for top quark pairs produced in association with a W or Z boson are presented, using 8 TeV pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb-1, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. Final states are selected in which the associated W boson decays to a charged lepton and a neutrino or the Z boson decays to two charged leptons. Signal events are identified by matching reconstructed objects in the detector to specific final state particles from tt̄W or tt̄Z decays. The tt̄W cross section is measured to be (Formula Presented) fb with a significance of 4.8 standard deviations from the background-only hypothesis. The tt̄Z cross section is measured to be (Formula Presented) fb with a significance of 6.4 standard deviations from the background-only hypothesis. These measurements are used to set bounds on five anomalous dimension-six operators that would affect the tt̄W and tt̄Z cross sections. © 2016, Springer Verlag. All rights reserved.

Measurement of the Inclusive Jet Cross Section in Pp Collisions at ?s = 2.76 Tev
    (Springer Verlag, 2016) Karapınar, Güler
The double-differential inclusive jet cross section is measured as a function of jet transverse momentum pT and absolute rapidity |y|, using proton-proton collision data collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC, at a center-of-mass energy of √s = 2.76 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.43 pb-1. Jets are reconstructed within the pT range of 74 to 592 GeV and the rapidity range |y|<3.0. The reconstructed jet spectrum is corrected for detector resolution. The measurements are compared to the theoretical prediction at next-to-leading-order QCD using different sets of parton distribution functions. This inclusive cross section measurement explores a new kinematic region and is consistent with QCD predictions. © 2016, CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.
