Article Citation - WoS: 1Sweeping the Meydan: Home and Religious Ceremony Amongst the Alevis(UAAC-AAUC (University Art Association of Canada), 2020) Andersen, Angela; Gündüz, CanLes alévis de Turquie parlent de la tradition qui consiste à organiser des cems, cérémonies en congrégation, dans les maisons des guides spirituels héréditaires et d’autres membres de la communauté. L’alévisme, qui regroupe les pratiques des lignées spirituelles kurdes et turcophones d’Asie occidentale issues de la famille du prophète Mahomet, est historiquement suivi sans l’utilisation des bâtiments de la mosquée, au contraire deleurs voisins musulmans sunnites. Dans cet article, nous combinons l’analyse architecturale avec des histoires orales recueillies auprès d’alévis pratiquants pour examiner les maisons alévis utilisées pour la cérémonie. Les pièces et les arrangements domestiques décrits par nos interviewés sont des études de cas dans le cadre d’un examen plus large de la vie religieuse et du comportement au sein du foyer et soulignent l’expérience de communautés spirituelles marginalisées dans les contextes rural et urbain. Notre recherche originale sur ce sujet élargit les définitions de l’architecture islamique, intègre la culture matérielle domestique dans l’histoire des sites liturgiques et érode la distinction présumée entre les contextes religieux et domestique.Review Domestic Devotions in the Early Modern World(Univ Art Assoc Canada, 2020) Andersen, Angela; Gunduz, CanMaster Thesis Ethnic Oven Units in Kadifekale, Izmir: Investigating a Migrant Cultural Heritage as a Unique Socio-Spatial Phenomenon(Izmir Institute of Technology, 2018) Çün, Perin; Gündüz, CanKadifekale, since the ancient times, has been a significant area of the city of İzmir, hosting many civilizations, the traces of which reached our day. In the 1990s, the area received the rural populations, who were displaced due to forced migration. The gecekondu neighbourhoods of Kadifekale, since the 1970s, have been homogeneous settlement areas because of the vast majority of Mardinite migrants. At the present time, the area has been evacuated as part of Kadifekale and Yeşildere Urban Renewal Project due to the imminent risk of landslide, and the residents were offered the TOKİ Uzundere apartment blocks as the resettlement alternative. Designation of Kadifekale and its surroundings as archaeological site is another valuable input regarding the area. As a result of these qualities, Kadifekale became a focal point to the innovative approaches of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, which, as of 2009, has entered into a process of change and transformation concerning its urban policies. This thesis hereby examines a socio-cultural and urban phenomenon that strives to survive within the framework established above: Tandır ovens, which are generally observed in the rural parts of Anatolia, evoking domestic meanings, are now located inside the citadels of Kadifekale, and have been utilized by a group of İzmir-Mardinite migrant women to earn a living for their families. The women bake and sell tandır bread in order to hold on to the city economically and existentially. Besides, the tandır ovens act as a tool helping them reconstruct their identity and sense of belonging, which they unwillingly left behind. This multi-layered phenomenon, which—for now—exists in the urban public space in all its vulnerability, has been handled by the multi-disciplinary initiatives established by the local authorities, and raises the question of whether it is worth preserving or not. This thesis aims to analyze the tandır case in Kadifekale from these standpoints and record this phenomenon to the history and memory of the city.Book 8. Geleneksel olarak farklı ölçeklere karşılık gelen farklı tasarım disiplinleri arasındaki kopukluğun sorgulanabildiği ve yer yer önüne geçilebildiği örneklerin de çoğalmasıyla birlikte, mimari tasarımın sayısal geleceğini her daim “eksiksiz”, “eksiz”, ama bir o kadar da ucu açık “eskiz” süreçler olarak öngörmekteyiz. Diğer yandan, “eskiz” nesne ve süreçler, bütünlüğünden ödün vermeden açık kalabilen parça bütün ilişkilerinin ya da niteliksel kararlar ile niceliksel veriler arasında sürekli gidip gelebilme deneyiminin sahiciliği ve sürdürülebilirliğine ilişkin endişelerle de yüzleşebilecek sorgulama ve tartışmaların gerçekleştirilmesini zorunlu kılıyor. 2007 yılından bu yana gerçekleştirilmekte olan Mimarlıkta Sayısal Tasarım Ulusal Sempozyum dizilerinin sekizincisi “eskiz / eksiz / eksiksiz …” temasıyla 26-27 Haziran 2014 tarihlerinde İYTE Mimarlık Fakültesi, Mimarlık Bölümü ev sahipliğinde düzenlenmiştir. Izmir Institute of Technology, 2023) Akpınar, İpek; Gündüz, Can; Özdemir Ulutaş, Esin; Çetin Nadas, Şeymaİzmir Yenişehir Gıda Çarşısı, İzmir’in Konak ilçesinin Halkapınar bölgesinde, kırk yılı aşkın bir süredir varlığını sürdüren ve kent bütününe hizmet eden bir toptan ve perakende ticaret merkezidir. Yaklaşık 600 hektarlık bir alanda, 3 bin 350 firma ile, yaklaşık 20 bin kişiye istihdam sağlayan Çarşı; merkezi konumu, köklü geçmişi, ekonomik canlılığı ve hacmiyle, sadece İzmir’in değil, Ege Bölgesi'nin de en önemli ticaret merkezlerinden biri konumundadır. Adının aksine sadece gıda değil, kentlinin elektrikli aletlerinden kırtasiye veya kozmetik malzemelerine kadar pek çok gereksinimini karşılayabileceği, kentsel ulaşım ağlarının düğüm noktasında, canlı bir ekonomik yaşama sahip, ancak trafikten güvenliğe kadar pek çok sosyal ve mekansal sorunu bünyesinde barındıran bir kent parçasıdır.
